Nancy Pelosi Issues Statement On Soaring Gas Prices
Warning: Not for the faint of heart.
Washington, D.C. – Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi released the following statement today on the rising gas prices across the country:
“Independent reports confirm that speculators are driving up the cost of oil, hurting consumers and potentially damaging the economic recovery. Wall Street profiteering, not oil shortages, is the cause of the price spike. In fact, U.S. oil production is at its highest level since 2003, and millions of acres have been cleared for additional development.
“We need to take strong action to protect consumers from this speculation. Unfortunately, Republicans have chosen to protect the interests of Wall Street speculators and oil companies instead of the interests of working Americans by obstructing the agencies with the responsibility of enforcing consumer protection laws. They have also repeatedly opposed our efforts to end billions of dollars in outdated taxpayer subsidies for oil companies enjoying record profits.
“We support efforts by the Obama Administration to expand domestic energy resources, including natural gas and renewable sources like wind and solar that create jobs in America and will end our dangerous dependence on foreign energy supplies. This can be achieved because today, the United States currently has more oil and gas rigs at work than the rest of the world combined, and imports of foreign oil have decreased.
“We call on the Republican leadership to act on behalf of American consumers and join our efforts to crack down on speculators who care more about their profits than the price at the pump even if these spikes harm the American consumer and our economy.”
Speculators? Such as the Federal Reserve and other central banks who have pumped $2 trillion of "liquidity" into the capital markets in the past 3 months just so Italian BTPs don't implode to fair value and so Europeans can continue living in a socialist "paradise" even as the bankers steal their gold?
Or is it the same congressional speculators who until recently had every right to front run the public on advance knowledge that the SPR would be tapped due to Democrat insistence to sacrifice America's last energy backstop only to win the election?
Or is Nancy simply pissed off that she can no longer trade ahead of any market moving news?
Whatever the reason for the gas surge, with these idiots in charge one thing is certain - the situation is about to get far, far worse.

Oil is potential and kinetic energy, hence the meaning of a kinetic action.
This is my understanding of how the world works:
The banks own the majority share percentages of the oil company stocks (remember Kissinger stating control oil to control the economy of a country) and when oil prices are high the banks that own oil companies benefit. You might hear an argument that they have the same % of profit and OPEC nations benefit (true), however if oil is $35 a barrel or $150 a barrel changes oil co. profit dramatically. So the banks have a huge benefit to run up the price of oil with rumors of war with Iran, etc. Since the USD is backed by oil it also helps fund deficits due to the recycling of the $ into treasuries. In addition to the oil company ownership, the financial intermediaries like Goldman S take positions based upon inside information on planned kinetic actions / capturing regulators / exchanges through HFT and drive up the price of oil and other commodities with your bailout money. This creates a middle man that buys tankers that just sit off shore soaking up the available tankers (reducing supply) and wait until prices increase. This is clearly price manipulation, Matt T. wrote an excellent article on it.
A portion of our gas price relates to supply / demand, a portion due to speculation by individuals (all investment today is somewhat speculative due to our monetary system), a portion is tax, a portion is the GS of the world acting as middle men to take a piece of total oil trade (they wanted to create another similar revenue stream based on carbon credits / global warming but people were too smart), and a portion is related to potential M.E. conflict and the desire to hedge some future price increase risk by corporations that will actually be using oil and transporting. The impact on profits can be significant since petroleum is a significant cost input and when there seems to be a reason for potential increases (war) decision makers will lock in hedges at futures prices that are higher than today due to event risk.
Are we no longer allowed to "speculate"(hedge our savings and labor) or should just accept the descent into shared misery (communism) until the shooting starts?

The Fed has been printing money, quantitatively easing, buying treasuries, and flooding the world with cheap dollars since 2008, and oil is priced in US dollars. You simply can't flood the world with trillions of dollars that never existed before without consequences. We can expect the price of gas (valued in petro-dollars, as Apocalypse observes), to respond, and now it seems to be responding with a vengeance.
Florida does not seem to be getting hammered as of yet, now California on the other hand is.

Off topic but several months ago the state of Kansas challenged me to a 2009 return. The only reason oil production is stable or slightly increasing is increased liquids production coming from the frantic gas frac drilling. Of course, the Dems will kill the tight gas frac drilling after the reelection of Obama as they seem determined to move the country to solar and wind which means more people living in highly populated mega cities and fewer cars. Any ends (highly dense populated areas) justifies the means (lies to end oil and gas production). Ask any Dem if they support tight gas fracing drilling. The goal is clear...move people to mega cities w/o cars where they can be easily controlled. Oil and gas production gets in the way of the real goal. Gas prices will be $6 or $7/gallon in a few years.
