New Features
Hello All,
In order to make our reader's experience more enjoyable, we're excited to offer three new features:
1. Zero Hedge Chat;
2. User Relationships; and
3. RSS Comments.
Of the first two:
To use Chat, and User Relationships, you'll have to be registered. On the right sidebar, navigate to 'My Account', then 'Edit', and finally tick the box that says "Enable Chat". From here, after a second or two, you'll see a nifty bar pop up on the bottom of your screen, and an ominous "0" next to users online. Fret not, this is where User Relationships comes into action.
First, it should be pointed out that you have access to the Chatrooms without any need to add anyone as a Contact. It sould also be pointed out that if you abuse the chatrooms, you'll be booted from the servers forever. Now, if you want to chat with someone one-on-one, simply click on their name anywhere in the ZH user interface, and you'll see a little like that says "Become __________'s Contact". Click this button. A little bit of javascript will pop up that says "Are you sure?" -- hit "Yes."
Now what? Now you have to wait for the other person to approve you. You'll notice a slick little block on the right sidebar that says "My Relationships". This is where you'll go to see who's trying to add you (Pending), and who you're already friends with.
Are there other reasons to add "Contacts"? Sure. We're designing a number of features that will be centered around the User Relationships function that we'll be releasing over the next 3 to 6 months, so feel free to build a cult. Or two.
RSS Comments
You'll notice on any story, at the bottom of the text of the story, there is a blue button now to the left of the Facebook share button; this is the RSS comments button. If you're so inclined to follow the comments on any particular post without having to check the site, you can click here to add the comment string to your rss aggregator.

Notes:
- Chatroom logs are kept for an hour, and automatically deleted.
- Personal chats are kept for three hours.
- Users can be found by typing their name into the search box, clicking "Search", then clicking "User".

How about a way to automatically lower shitty comment posts and elevate those that are worth a shit?
That would be the best improvement.
Well, a quick spin has uncovered a few show stoppers for me ....
1. You can't make it fullscreen.
2. If you refresh a page (to say, go to the next page of comments), the chat room pop up dies and need to be reset.
But... it's a nice try for a first attempt.

No really, I like it here for that reason.
Google+ is bitchin bc don't put my name in email. So they sign me up for G+ (not my doing), then demand my name. And phone. And so on and so forth in an effort to centralize all information.
Point is don't get beside yourself to jump on the information gathering bandwagon.
Pretty suspicious as it is about what keeps ZH going.
I dropped the social networks for about a year now and haven't missed anything, and probably avoided screwing around with old girlfriends or new ones.
Who can recomend a good email provider that doesn't centralize? Yahoo is shit with ads and a carnival atmosphere.
the wife uses hushmail, I believe she found out about it here at ZH. I haven't used it yet but she's happy with it.
Next will be banners for ZPrivateFights and ZHarmony LOOOOL

Not to seem ungrateful, and I know this isn't democratic, but I wish I could hide comments from certain users. We've got a few serial thread-hijackers and just plain old idiots who subject all of us to their cranial diarrhea on a daily basis. Permanently removing them from my sight would greatly enhance my experience. Somedays it's hard to find the commenters actually worth reading.
Everyone in the chat room should have to learn Sumerian, the long dead language. This way big brother will have a harder time deciphering the hard drive imprinted chat after it has been deleted.
If I actually wanted to talk with any of you bastards, I would go visit the nearest gin palace on a Monday afternoon, or the basement of my local university's library on a Friday night, or hang out on "Ammo box sale day" at the Army/Navy.

Couple of suggestions for the next site update. Not sureanyone will see this on page 4 of an old article. But....
First - Polls. Obviously staff created first. Then maybe donor created. Stuff like where will jobs number come i. Big miss, slight miss, almost exact, slight beat, big beat. One vote per registered user.
Srcond - donor badges for posts. Maybe 3 levels.
I already miss the good old days.

What has happened to the 'Track' function?? It just disappeared a few minutes ago (after a 'Server not available' response some minutes earlier)!
While I'm at it: Would it not be possible to provide a tab with a list of all previous posts for a user --- in a similar format to the 'New Comments' List at top right (date, time, first X characters, 1 per line), or as a full display of the actual comments, X to a page --- to enable quick tracking back to specific posts or conversations?
The current 'track' function is useful for showing if there are new replies to previous topics, but it is very time consuming (damned near impossible!) to find specific older posts.
Step in the right direction. Soon we need ZHMT (ZeroHedgeMoneyTransfer) system when $ go bust.
The chatroom has decided that my screenname shall forever be "Guest." I think perhaps the timing of my registration (I was in the 4 day waiting period when the chatroom started) has doomed me.

Anyone notice that the Apple chart very closely resembles INTC ramp into NASDAQ bubble. Many are using MSFT as the analog, which may be true, but this pattern of a parabolic followed by congestion and retest and stop run over previous high after an approx 5-6 mth interruption looks way more like INTC . HIGH CRASH ALERT. INTC fell 40% over the next month.
