New User Interface
First, note that if you're having trouble logging in, you need to clear your cache. If you're still having issues, run CCleaner, and if you're still having problems, email us at info@.
Note: You can adjust which comments you see in the "junking" (as it's referred to), by adjusting your threshold in the drop down menu where you set how many comments you see, if you're authenticated. If you want to see everyone's comments, go for it. No one's? Good there too. There's a maximum range on our ability to "up" and "down" a comment -- we can't push a comment completely below your view. Moreover, if there's a comment you want to see that's below your current threshold, just click on it. It will show up. It just drops down, like magic.
Some notable features:
1. The new comment function is vastly improved. Authenticated users will be able to set threshold levels, effectively blocking out everything deemed sub-par by comment raters.
2. On the right, you'll notice you now have access to the most recent comments and top stories.
3. A much improved search function.
4. Similar stories, once the update catches up from the data migration, offers stories that share key words with the current story.
5. If you click on "My Account", you can see your most recent comments so you can track them.
6. Notably, you'll need to re-register for subscriptions. The new method is much better than the old, but we couldn't transfer the lists.
(edit)
7. We've changed Captcha.
8. Someone pointed out that users (non contributor/admin) couldn't search for other users. This has been rectified.
9. Adding Spellchecker.
10. Re: comment moderation, slashdot did an interesting piece on this (as this moderation system is derived from them), and came to the conclusion that it's absurd to let everyone moderate comments. Not only is it prone to abuse, but it defeats the purpose of having moderators (as it creates moderation wars). They elected to do a Karma system where everyone gets a shot at moderating at some point; we may adopt the same.
11. Just to clarify, aside from some sidebar stuff, the CSS on the font stayed exactly the same.
12. I'll take away user pictures if it's abused.
13. Added 'new comments' per user(s) request(s).
14. The lag you're seeing now is because the servers are updating, effectively digesting the new information (all of the user content, including posts).
If you have any questions or concerns, email me. We hope you enjoy everything.

My comment evaporated when I clicked "Input Format". Just playing around, Not to worry.
Just learned to make two positive comments before any suggestions. Glad to see the night riders protecting tradition.
Sac and Team good job! Will be watching this mutate as a result of the collider effect.
I lost the spellcheck icon, can use some help please.

IRS staff committed tax credit fraud
http://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2011/may/23/irs-staff-committed-tax-credit-fraud/
The new UI seems very S.L.O.W. Server caching enabled?
Ditto here. Way too slow. I am already done with my fifith.
Not a fan so far.
Improvements: No more math challenge.
Degradations: Farcebook and Twits links. Tiny default font. Laggy as all get out. More spread out threads that require more scrolling. A poor quoting system is now even worse, as quoted material appears next to the quoter's icon.
So Zero Hedge goes popular opinion? Democracy??
The Professional Republican Posters and the Professional Democrats will be making large gains here in Zero Hedge from this day forward.
The day of "One Man's Voice" being heard here are fading quickly!
get in your last shots boys / girls becuase here come the corporate pros!

if we're just getting in our final shots
JW "The day of "One Man's Voice" being heard here are fading quickly!"
So it would seem; sometimes that lone voice needs to be heard, too.
Sometimes it needs to be 'debunked' as well.
But, if one feels the need to put it out there, that option should be available, not shunted, I think ...
.
Sac,
Any thoughts on VB Scripting for posting purposes?
Spell checker
Sinx/Cosx = tanx
Is it just me,or do the Zero Hedge Reads now end with Market Folly? I remember Max Keiser being listed, and he's always pumping ZH.
Wow, you are on to something. The list is shorter.
Sending message to Sac
This is the best website on the internet.
Thanks for caring.
What has happened to the red New/Updated markers that indicated my (an individual's) unread stories?
I used this A LOT to go back through any stories I had missed or left to read in a bit more detail at a later point in the day.
Now? GONE.
Sac,
Take a look at eh contributor list. Something is missing. Maybe the links are not activated.
I've got a bad feeling about all this.
I do too. I sense something creeping in here, that is deleterious to free speech whatever we have left.........I knew it would come one day.........
I started for me back with the kerfuffle over the domain name, ZH representation, the disappearance of Marla and many of the regulars.
Was away and just logged on today. It takes a while but I am comming to terms with the new format. Was never into junking but I will miss the ratings.
Much harder to read. Dislike the new format.
I wish we could vote on it.............
Wow, everything's different now.
When does moderation start?
What are the mods looking for? Racism? Zionism? Psycho-sexual stuff? Keynesianism? Hate speach? Bitchez comments? Obejectivist nonsense?
Good luck, mods.
http://www.politico.com/news/stories/0711/59737.html
don't they look like the biggest bunch of smiling traitorous scumbags that we ever saw?
Yes. Picture not good for my blood pressure.
How do I set newest comments to appear at the top? I can't seem to find that option now.
Who gets to be a comment moderator? I've noticed that a lot of easy junkers would miss the point/humor of the commentor. And there was a junk-fest going on lately.
Also, where is the tracking feature? I can only see my "shopping cart" but nothing else.-Nevermind, I see it now in that small box at the top-right hand corner!
I like the improved searches.
I miss the left-right panning feature that was elimainated months ago on the contributer articles.. but I will live...
In order to see artwork (submitted by Bansai, for example) one would have to zoom out to 75% or hit "printer friendly". Could there be a way to collapse the blue boxes to the right for easier viewing of full-size atwork?
Great changes fellas. I like it so far.
I didn't get a Captcha.
Same here. Just logged in via BB playbook & it is was the same as desktop log in, no captcha. Imagine my phone will be the same.
Tyler, go back into a maintenance mode and fix this security problem.
where are the up down buttons? why don't you just copy reddit?
May we also please have an islamo-centric/credit rate scoring system so that I am better equipped knowing with whom I am interacting with virtually? In all seriousness, thank you Sac.
its cool, could never log in before from home , now i can!!!!!
Thanks Sacrilege.

I like the changes.
Edit: strike out and horizontal line ruler not working.
Thank god you didn't migrate commenting to Disqus like the rest of the world.
Can we have the old Verdana font back please, this new one is awful.
Ok, I have to test drive this a bit, but I like the new upholstery so far. Being able to link to my comments will be a timesaver for me. I never used the junk button or minded anyone using it against me, so that is a wash. I would like to see some differentiation in comments which I havent read yet, ie "new to me". I do want to say thanks without getting all kiss assey. Thanks.
Some feedback, if required:
#1 There's a massive disparity between the default text size of committed comments [huge - size 14? 16?] and comments being written [font size = 8?] Comment box should at least be font = 10 or 12, many of your readers are old drunken bastards, after all. Please allow us to have smaller comment fields - at the moment, I get to read perhaps 2 or 3 on a page - I don't read this slowly, please allow me to read a decent chunk in one go!! [not all of us need the large font version for oldsters]
#2 You're allowing img tags? What about [size=] font tags? [size=20]Test[/size] [size=6]TEST[/size]. I think you should set strict limits on size of images [X by X or Kb limit, your choice] fast - it tends to prevent abuse, save bandwidth and so on. Garish signatures with neon pictures should lead to purgatory for the account.
#3 I view ZH with as many filters as possible [NoScript, Ghostery Ipredator etc etc] - images / signatures don't display for me if ZH isn't given temporary permissions (well - put it this way - I only see text comments at the moment, and everyone else is going on about Nascaresque tags and large pictures, so I presume they're there, just not being seen). This is fine (the old site, I avoided the ads, which I offset by a donation to be fair). One option for those wanting a "work safe" ZH, would be a selectable tag within your account to display pictures or not. Also - the captcha does not display for me... or is it switched off? Or this account no longer needs it? No idea, but I don't appear to have it onscreen or as a necessity.
#4 As a new member who gets junked quite often, I have to say... I feel people should be able to junk me. I often get the odd 1 'flyby' junk (which is never explained - although, many get it, so I'm non too bothered), however on the flame bait posts, wracking up 14+ junks is a good way for the 'collective mind' to let me know I'm posting drivel. Although, a +1 button would be useful - it'd be a nice feature if you could click on the junk / likes and get a named list of those who did it, as well. -- And yes, I'm aware people will meta-game this to create junker accounts, but the traceability would be nice.
#5 Widescreen monitors - comments look damn strange [due to the borders remaining static at the top of the page and the size/height of the comment boxes in comparison to their width]. Could the right hand Ransquawk bar float for widescreen displays? (i.e. always ->> in my vision)
#6 Regarding #3 - just had a thought. Larger sites (for instance CNN) have two versions - their "media splash" version for the baas, and their international serious one for the business readers (cough.. you know what I mean, hopefully). It might be a good design choice to offer a minimalist ZH that cut everything barring text / ads / headers and kept the "serious" look. (I'm thinking here of people scrolling down to an A4 pr0n picture left by a troll).
#7 Avatar box indents comment text for the first four lines. This jars the fuck out of the section from a graphic design perspective. The old site, Avatars were up/in the header field. (I think).
#8 Strike through doesn't appear to work - but it never did
#9 Are links still a privilege? Just noticed the Comments input format, so a test -- http://singularityhub.com/2011/07/24/researcher-makes-a-career-developin... <a href="http://huml.org/404.shtml">404</a> <a href="http://www.drought.unl.edu/dm/6_week.gif">Hand written not pasted</a> pasting seems to put a panel in place here --> <a href="http://www.drought.unl.edu/dm/6_week.gif"> Mixing a link with a Gif will the world explode</a>
#10 Front page doesn't update "new posts" - seems stuck at either listing all as new, or just not giving a number.
I'll post more if any seem useful.
Echoed on the #7. Ending the text-indent from the avatar is horrible and should be destroyed ASAP. If you're going to insert the avatar into the comment area, indent all lines.
Horrible, horrible.
You killed my edit! Curses...

<li> Thanks to Long-John-Silver : use CTRL -/+ to resize the displayed font within your browser. Phew. URK - forum resets this EVERY time it refreshes due to posting. URRRRGH</li>
<li>Tracking a user, then clicking their post seems to only take you to the thread, not the location of the post - although, I managed to get it working, it then broke. Not sure about this one - is >user>post>thread>post location required to have anchors set?</li>
</ol>
Reformatted to break stuff - and edited as response while editing occurred.
Hmm, let's try something & use different parenthesis.

Sacrilege
Having the word "new" appear in front of new posts on a page refresh is nice.
Idea: Change the color of the bar from grey to say red for new posts (or vise versa). That would be very sweet!
Nice changes all in all - but I would vote for Calibri 12pt font - Thanks!
When I try to resubscribe to contributors the site tells me I do not have the appropriate access rights. I'll be damned if I don't get an email update whenever CogDis posts!
Change is good...maybe.
What is this "total score" thing and what does it mean?
Thanks for the hard work Sacrilege. ZH has mostly been about substance, anything that helps to further that, I find a good thing.
To the whiners complaining about change, perhaps you should consider having yourself bronzed. No, really, that way you won't have to deal with it.
Changes come and changes go. I'm sure there will be more in the future. Evolve or perish.
Use Firefox.
For Font Size:
In the menu:
View>Zoom>Zoom In/Out (be sure you have the "Zoom Text Only" option checked.)
Don't like the Font?
In Firefox menu:
Tools>Options>Content Tab>Font & Colors>Choose your font
Then click the "Advanced" button and un-check where it says:
"Allow pages to choose their own font, instead of my selections above."
Problem is that the forum currently re-applies the default (massive) every time it loads a page / posts if you use CTRL -/+.
In Firefox menu:
Tools>Options>Content Tab>Font & Colors>Choose your font
Then click the "Advanced" button and un-check where it says:
"Allow pages to choose their own font, instead of my selections above."
hlep... adn I dnot see ayn sepll chekc
In firefox, Right click in the comment text box, and select "Check Spelling".
So far it looks good. It's amazing what you can do with Drupal and all those modules.
Having seen many a moderation type war (Karma!, Junk!, Up/Down!) the only thing that matters is what works for your community. No matter what you do someone will complain.
Now, for my complaint. BRING BACK THE FULL TEXT RSS FEED!
I read ZH through a feed reader and I hate jumping out to read the full text. Especially on my phone.
Wow, i didn't realize it was possible to make worse user interface than it already was.
This is horrible
I've noticed quite a serious bug - and I've been able to reproduce it twice.
If I log in, post, I can obviously see my post.
If I then log out, you are redirected straight to the front page. If I then go >front page>thread and search it using CTRL+F for my name, the post doesn't exist. Scrolling down... disappeared.
The same happens in the tracker >> logged in, the post exists - logged out, it doesn't.
However, if I then log back in, reload the page, I can see the post - then logging out, and reloading, and the post seems "fixed".
Obviously, usually I'd imagine that I'd been junked into oblivion - however, the posts are all at +1 still. Edit - not sure, but I think this has to do with the New Comments ticker update delay - but I've noticed this twice now. The first time I noticed this, it appeared to be a 'wrap around' issue with page displays (i.e. sorting via page 3 / 4 etc)
So, ??
Read, it dummy,before asking.....LOL
Question, Caps lock accidentally on, EDIT to correct, and the post shows the same, even after correction.........whasssup?
hmmm....
@Sac
I like the word "new" next to the new comments. I can use the ctrl+f of the browser and search for the word "new" to find the recent comments down the page.
Thanks!

How does one insert a picture?
Hey big ups for getting it done. Makes me very happy that criminal banker resistance happens on Drupal! ... the quirkly login issue is worse on Safari than Chrome for whatever reason. Regards & keep up the fine work gentlemen.
@Sac--anomaly report: the cumulative comments and new comments are posted. New comments are broken (that is, I've posted on this thread, yet upon re-login the total comments were == unread.
Enhancements: please explain rules/kabuki for "total score" and what it means. And what it means in the melee ;-)
I've argued for "Unjunk" in the past, it would remove entropy to have a "Junk" and a "Unjunk" as two values. But I'm just a tiny little piglet, so don't see the whole picture, nor how all y'all wish the site to be run, so please continue to do your great thingie.
Explanation for the anchor icon would be helpful.
Let's go play, children!

Hooray! The full text RSS feeds are back.
If I'm reading between the lines correctly, it seems like a good move to me.
If I'm reading between the lines correctly, it seems like a good move to me.
Sometime tonight, the main page went into large-print senior citizen font size, while the box to type into went into tiny, sub-atomic font size.
I'm hoping someone can answer this question. I am using IE 8.0. I can log in, but I can't get the articles to update without hitting the "refresh" button.
If I click on an article and go back to the homepage the articles don't get updated. It still shows the same articles and the number of comments and views.
Is this due to the server still? Or am I missing something.
Did clear my cache!

Thanks for the posting.there is something very unique and enjoyable about.http://www.worldpharmarx.com
You can +1 your own posts, and then junk yourself.
Probably not healthy when coupled with accounts like the above [spider / advert bot accounts - see http://www.wired.com/techbiz/people/news/2007/03/72832 for how +votes on Digg / Reddit and now Google+ are a tradable commodity]
How does one get the RSS feed working again? I've searched, experimented, doublechecked....now I'm backing up all existing feeds to an IMAP folder.
Am at the point where I just *know* something bad will happen. Time for help.
