Obama Explains Live How A Payroll Tax Cut Needs "Tiny" Millionaire Surtax

Tyler Durden's picture

Apparently one taxcut for another is an equitable quid pro quo. Watch the president explain how expanding the payroll tax would be funded by millionaires. Which naturally means DOA.

Any conservative with two or more brain cells left should have the sense to not vote for Newt. This guy is about as conservative as Lenin.

"The time has come for the next great step forward in American politics. It is not a matter of Democrats versus Republicans, or of left and right...but something more significant...a clear distinction between rear-guard politicians who wish to preserve or restore an unworkable past and those who are ready to transition to what we call a “Third Wave” information-age society…

A new civilization is emerging in our lives, and blind men everywhere are trying to suppress it. This new civilization brings with it new family styles, changed ways...a new economy, new political conflicts, and...altered consciousness... Humanity faces a quantum leap forward. This is the meaning of the Third Wave…

Our argument is based on what we call the “revolutionary premise”... The revolutionary premise liberates our intellect and will.

Nationalism is...First Wave. The globalization of business and finance required by advancing Third Wave economies routinely punctures the national “sovereignty” the nationalists hold so dear...

As economies are transformed by the Third Wave, they are compelled to surrender part of their sovereignty... Poets and intellectuals of Third Wave states sing the virtues of a “borderless” world and “planetary consciousness.”

The Third Wave...demassifies culture, values, and morality... There are more diverse religious belief systems.

The Constitution of the United States needs to be reconsidered and altered...to create a whole new structure of government... Building a Third Wave civilization on the wreckage of Second Wave institutions involves the design of new, more appropriate political structures... The system that served us so well must, in its turn, die and be replaced." - Newt Gingrich

Newt's ideology is Newt. "Conservative" was needlessly limiting. No one with two brain cells should vote for a candidate whose whole program is self-aggrandizement.

Social Security has been spending more than it brings in for a couple years now, and that happened BEFORE the "tax" cuts.  There is no lock box and SS, along with WDC and Main Street, is BROKE.

Let us all sit back and observe the law of diminished returns.

Cutting SS by a couple points barely hid the increase that those lucky enough to still have health insurance were smacked with THIS year, let alone the previous five/ten.

What utter complete BS.

Go ahead and raise taxes on the "rich" moron.  The "rich" are either credit whores or going to be running for the exits when Europe implodes and takes China and the US with them.

Raising it now won't mean much in a few months.

Just like the $5 a week that the little guy is "gaining" doesn't mean much when our food & gas bill increases 5% a month.

Screw him and the advisors he rode in on.

51% of this country pays NO federal income tax.   We have the narrowest tax base on the entire planet.   Our tax system is an inverted pyramid where the tip of the pyramid bears the entire weight of th structure.   The solution to stabilize things, according to the regressives, is to keep chipping away at the tip supporting the entire weight of the pyramid.   Eventually the entire thing will come crashing down.   In order to be a regressive, one must fail econ 101 at least twice.

Buy, buy, buy. Spend, spend, spend. Bye, bye, bye.

Americans are hurting, people!

In an economy where 70% of GDP is supposedly driven by consumer spending, how do you get to $15 trillion when only $50 billion is spent over Thanksgiving?

$50 billion times 300 = $15 trillion.

$200 times 300 million = $60 billion

Tax cuts for the bottom 99% are "chicken shit" and must be paid for, whereas tax cuts that mainly go to the top 1% are necessary for job creation, even though the data does not support the asserion at all.

But by all means let's leave out the fact both of these parties do the bidding of the financial elite, and that the number of dollars is much more important to politicians than the number of voters.
