From Occupying Wall Street To "Dying For Work"?

Tyler Durden's picture

Imagine you are driving to work this morning in Las Vegas (yes, you are one of the select few locals who has a job that does not involve relying on the strip's ever declining gambling revenues or flipping a house to John Paulson in the second, and far shorter, coming of the regional housing bubble, with poppage imminent), and you observe what appears to be a man who hung himself below a billboard saying "Dying for Work."

Confused, you continue, only to drive by another billboard with what seem to be a man hanging off, this one saying "Hope you're happy Wall St."

Slowly it all clicks: the man is not real, and this is not a suicide done in protest by some depressed unemployed person, instead it is merely a mannequin, part of some grotesque attempt at a statement. Would this be considered shocking, and will the thousands of commuters who saw this feel any worse or better toward Wall Street and its denizens - America's bankers - having seen this, or will they merely continue with their lives?

What if the dummy was a real person? And is this merely a foreshadowing of things to come in a country in which class warfare has not been as violent in decades if not centuries, and in which the divide between the haves and the have nots has never been as wide?

And what happens when the next such "stunt" involves a real person - perhaps someone depressed enough to copycat what they saw on the 5 o'clock news? More importantly, what happens if a depressed jobless person takes their life but first takes out some of those he thinks are responsible for his plight - say Wall Streeters?

What happens then?

We don't know, but sadly we, as well as everyone else, may find out very soon.

What we do know is what happened today. From the AP:

Even by Las Vegas standards, it was a shocking billboard: A mannequin dangling on a hangman's noose below a black sign with the ominous words "Dying for Work."

Nevada Highway Patrol Trooper Jeremie Elliott says the 911 calls started coming in as the sun came up early Wednesday, with drivers worried the stiff, black-suited dummy swaying at the end of a rope along Interstate 15 near Bonanza Road was a real person.

"It's a publicity stunt, obviously done in bad taste," said Elliott, adding that officials were focused on getting it down quickly to avoid distracting drivers during the morning commute.

The graphic display along the interstate was one of at least two unauthorized signs spotted Wednesday morning in the Las Vegas area. Another found on Highland Avenue and Desert Inn Road was white with black lettering that read, "Hope You're Happy Wall St.," and a similar mannequin hanging off the edge.

A woman who answered the phone at Lamar Advertising Co., which owns one of the billboards, labeled the act vandalism and said the display was being removed. She did not provide her name.

Clear Channel Outdoor, which owns another sign that was affected, said they pulled the display immediately and plan to work with law enforcement to punish whoever is responsible.

"We condemn the destructive behavior against one of our billboards because it is illegal and punishes our advertisers," Clear Channel Outdoor spokesman Jim Cullinan said in a statement. "This is not an innocent protest, but it is illegal and dangerous behavior that Clear Channel Outdoor and the industry will not accept."

Not everyone is filled with remorse over this act:

While nobody has publicly claimed responsibility for the signs, the Occupy Las Vegas group, which is affiliated with the larger Occupy Wall Street movement, posted photos of the displays on its website. Its caption says the Nevada governor's budget has slashed social programs and aid to suicidal adults.

Sebring Frehner, an Occupy supporter who posted the photos, told The Associated Press he didn't know who put the hangmen up, but applauded the message behind it.

"People saying it's in bad taste are living sheltered lives and don't pay attention to what affects the working class," he said.

Fair enough. But how does one escalate in order to truly capture the attention of those "living sheltered lives." Will the next fake person be all too real?

Or will America's "working class", having been taken over the edge in its class hatred, decide to pay Wall Street a visit, and bring some mobile guillotines with it for good measure?

And is this really America any more, or is it France circa 1789?

And who will take the place of Louis XVI?

These are the guys who run the world...and have not yet repented for their sins....

And, the London politician who thinks that NY is after London to get business back to NY by suing SCB and going after HSBC, must read this article and he should wonder if it is he who allowed these UK banks to launder money, evade sanctions and evade taxes from NY in the first place? After all, NY did not create this evidence?

Maybe we need to let the British back in ;-)

As remarked on by others...DC is full of parasites. Fourteen billion in "shovel ready" stimulus was dedicated to renovation/construction of federal buildings. Of that, 5.5 billion went to the General Services Administration.

Yes, the same guys who threw lavish parties for themselves in Las Vegas. Now it is learned...gave themselves 44 million in bonuses as the private sector crumbled and people lost their houses.

"Employees at the scandal-ridden General Services Administration were enjoying even more taxpayer-funded perks than previously reported.

Along with sending themselves to lavish conferences on the U.S. taxpayers’ dime, an investigation by WUSA-TV has found they were also getting massive bonuses totaling up to $44 million in fiscal year 2011.

That total included roughly $30 million in awards that were either undisclosed or underreported – up to $79,000. And some of the workers awarded bonuses are the ones responsible for organizing an infamous 2010 convention outside Las Vegas that cost taxpayers $822,000 and featured a mind reader, bicycle giveaways, and extravagant after-hour receptions."

Exactly! People hit the wrong targets. Only through the use of government power can Wall Street or anyone else oppress the larger population. Wall Street also responds the same way everyone else does, too. The Fed and the government in general have made it so playing with money and balance sheets pays well above the production of real goods and services. Want to know why so much corn is grown instead of arugula? Crop subsidies, stupid ethanol production, etc.

Government will hang us all out to dry while promising utopia.

Jeffersonian republicanism is not at all the same as the Republican party. Jefferson and his contemporaries were all classically defined liberals as opposed to the common modern type of statist- liberal, classical liberals essentially believed in maximal personal liberty with minimal government power.

As a lifelong conservative I have come to realize that I am actually a classical liberal. I like it actually as liberty, liberal and libertarian then all properly align in terminology and ideology.

For simplicity, I tell people I am a Ron Paul type conservative. It usually works.

@ Batterycharged. If somebody wants you dead, and they are truly motivated, there isn't a whole lot you can do about it. The thing with guys like Corzine, Bernanke, etc....there aren't enough security details in the world to protect the potential targets here in the US alone.

Everybody sets patterns. Everybody. A little discreet surveillance and some're good to go.

Disclaimer. I worked some private security, diplomatic security and an overseas POTUS and SecState visit, along with a ton of static security.

Finally just what kind of point would you make? Would the point be that you can be a mass murderer? Hell!!! ANYONE can do that!!! That does not take an imagination. It just takes some brute force.

For instance if you don't have a gun...or guns... you can construct bombs. You can deliver it by rocket if you desire. Or...You can even use poison gas....or a poison gas warhead. Poison gases are not too to generate with all of the chemicals that can be easily acquired. As an example a poison gas in a theater, in any enclosed place for that matter, for instance, would have made many more multiples of casualties than the guns that Holmes used.

I am glad that Holmes was not more imaginative. Maybe that is the reason he failed his Oral Examination. He lacked the VISION to be CONSTRUCTIVE, A PRODUCER. So he turned into a destroyer which takes no vision or imagination at all.

So just what is the point of killing these psychopaths. You'd be JUST LIKE THEM, destroying OTHER'S LIVES. For what? To make a statement? That is craziness.

Why our current and former Presidents have turned out to be mass murderers. But do they have any solutions for the economy? Do they have any clue how to get along with the rest of the World? They just lack imagination and creativity. They are DESTRUCTIVE, NOT CONSTRUCTIVE. They are CONSUMERS, NOT PRODUCERS.

There is NO POINT!!! There is NO POLITICAL SOLUTION. Haven't you all got that yet?

So...OPT OUT!!! Buy Gold.  Disappear!!! Steer clear of the carnage of the collapse and be WISE...AND BE AT PEACE. That is the intelligent decision.

Minority Rules: Scientists Discover Tipping Point for the Spread of Ideas

Scientists at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute have found that when just 10 percent of the population holds an unshakable belief, their belief will always be adopted by the majority of the society. The scientists, who are members of the Social Cognitive Networks Academic Research Center (SCNARC) at Rensselaer, used computational and analytical methods to discover the tipping point where a minority belief becomes the majority opinion. The finding has implications for the study and influence of societal interactions ranging from the spread of innovations to the movement of political ideals.

“When the number of committed opinion holders is below 10 percent, there is no visible progress in the spread of ideas. It would literally take the amount of time comparable to the age of the universe for this size group to reach the majority,” said SCNARC Director Boleslaw Szymanski, the Claire and Roland Schmitt Distinguished Professor at Rensselaer. “Once that number grows above 10 percent, the idea spreads like flame.”

Humans and monkeys share Machiavellian intelligence

Alpha males, who rule the 50 or so macaques in the troop, use threats and violence to hold on to the safest sleeping places, the best food, and access to the females in the group with whom they want to have sex. Like human dictators intent on holding power, dominant monkeys use frequent and unpredictable aggression as an effective form of intimidation. Less powerful members of the rhesus macaque group are marginalized and forced to live on the edges of the group’s area, where they are vulnerable to predator attacks. They must wait for the others to eat first and then have the leftovers; they have sex only when the dominant monkeys are not looking.

Struggles for power within a group sometimes culminate in a revolution, in which all members of the most dominant family are suddenly attacked by entire families of subordinates. These revolutions result in drastic changes in the structure of power within rhesus societies, not unlike those occurring following human revolutions.

Not quite France 1789, but perhaps Russia 1905. My guess is that it will start with random acts of violence against banks and bankers. Then there will be small uprisings. And only after the waters have been tested will we likely see wide scale chaos and violence slowly morph into something more organized.

But it will start with individual acttions ... All of which will be dismissed as "crazy", of course.

How did that Police State work out for the Batman theater goers? Violence is unfortunately, extremely do-able and governments cannot prevent it.

The reality that no government wants to admit is that violence is:

1) easy
2) totally unpreventable if someone wants it.

There's a statist mythology that says the military is "too powerful". The propagandists want people to believe that it is impossible. History says that's complete bullshit.

Remember the DC sniper? That was one man (well technically he had a driver) who brought the city to its knees for a week. That's one guy with a sniper rifle -- in Washington D.C. -- one of the most the most protected cities in the world.

What would 3 with sniper rifles men do? 5 men? 20 men? And what if their targets had been political? The reality is that this stuff is terrifyingly easy. Bringing down compete chaos, and utter fear among the elites is absolutely not difficult.

Russia 1905 is a good example of how this stuff happens. It starts with random acts of violence and then it grows. I'm not good at guessing "when", which is why I'm a shitty investor, but I do believe it's probably coming sometime in the next decade or two... I hope not, because the reality is that when this shit starts it gets much worse for most people over the short term. (MUCH worse). But history does what history does...

The police state only works on people who obey the law and/or have been targeted for their non-conformist views. The key is to make people who disagree think they have less power than they do. And it's worked so far.

Ordinary citizens are kept in fear (purposely) while those in power have all the protection they want/need. When someone gets elected who is not a sociopath (Giffords), she pays the price so those with real power can further their cause. All the while, the socipaths and psychopaths like Pelosi, Reid, Bachus, Fwank, etc, hide in their high castles.

Something, someone, somewhere, will break and it will start a chain reaction like shards of U-235 that have just been merged into a 10.5 lb ball and reached critical mass.

Yup.  This is part of their strategy to take away our guns before they slaughter us.  We all knew these kinds of false flags were coming.  Frankly, I'm surprised they waited this long.

Repost on some similarities between the Batman and Sikh Temple shootings:

There were accomplices and the media ignores this because it doesn't fit the conclusions they are herding us towards.

The police investigations are actually coverups which help push the official story.

The victims were chosen for a high probability of being disarmed (by theatre policy in the Batman case- though the media will never tell you that the body count was high due to a LACK of guns).  No self-defense --> high body count --> more emotional impact to sell the story.

The Batman shooter had been worked over by military shrinks; the Sikh shooter worked for US Army psyops.

The canned script comes out immediately- Fascism will protect your children!  Never mind that fascism has historically killed thousands of times more children than lone nutters, but thanks to public education, logic and history are not Americans' strong points.

The father of the Batman shooter was due to testify to Congress on LIBOR manipulation and trillions in offshore accounts:

One of the Sikh victims was the father of the guy who made the documentary "Sirius", which is about free energy and UFO coverups:

There was obviously considerable planning, and yet the MSM would have us believe that this was just some hateful redneck who said "All ragheads look the same to me" and so didn't even learn the basics about Sikhs (they are hippies).

The link above discusses the possibility that the shooter wasn't the real James Holmes.  They look different, especially the nose.  So they could have grabbed the real guy, drugged him, then dumped him at the scene, dazed and not remembering the shooting.  How to get him to tell the cops about all the professionally made bombs in his apartment?  Perhaps they used Scopolamine, aka Devil's Breath.  The Illuminati would love this stuff.  It removes the will, blocks formation of long term memories, and sometimes leaves the victim retarded afterwards.  Colombian gangs use it to get people to "consensually" empty their bank accounts and houses.  Voodoo sorcerers use it (in the form of Datura) during the second stage of zombification, when they dig up the victim and make him think he is in Hell.

Looks like the Batman judge is in on the coverup too. Gag orders all around.

The DC sniper wasn't even a particularly good marksman either. It's difficult to miss a center mass silhouette shot with a .223 / 5.56 at 100 yards or less. But, historically...most sniper shots fall within this range anyways. Snipers have always been force multipliers.

Don't confuse aggressive action with effective action. Situations change, and nothing is static. Resistance takes many forms, including sites like this. I buy more food than I can consume, not so I can live like a prince in a mad max world, but so I can be in the best position to render aid others. I buy guns and ammo, not to be the warlord in a mad max world, but so I can best take care of my own security and the security of my family and neighbors. I buy Au and Ag because every ounce in my hot little hands is a vote of no confidence in the current regime, and it is one less ounce to back 100's of paper certificates.

It takes more balls to swallow that manly pride and surrender in the short term in order to win the long game. They WANT you to fight since it makes you easier to neutralize. The goal is to WIN, not massage your own ego.

People defend the fraudulent society, however.  The generation from the 60s, the 70s....they really think shit could be worse, and what the bankers and the corporate governance has convinced them is that if you aim for it all and end up having to settle what they give you, and you can be OK with that.
