From Occupying Wall Street To "Dying For Work"?

Tyler Durden's picture

Imagine you are driving to work this morning in Las Vegas (yes, you are one of the select few locals who has a job that does not involve relying on the strip's ever declining gambling revenues or flipping a house to John Paulson in the second, and far shorter, coming of the regional housing bubble, with poppage imminent), and you observe what appears to be a man who hung himself below a billboard saying "Dying for Work."

Confused, you continue, only to drive by another billboard with what seem to be a man hanging off, this one saying "Hope you're happy Wall St."

Slowly it all clicks: the man is not real, and this is not a suicide done in protest by some depressed unemployed person, instead it is merely a mannequin, part of some grotesque attempt at a statement. Would this be considered shocking, and will the thousands of commuters who saw this feel any worse or better toward Wall Street and its denizens - America's bankers - having seen this, or will they merely continue with their lives?

What if the dummy was a real person? And is this merely a foreshadowing of things to come in a country in which class warfare has not been as violent in decades if not centuries, and in which the divide between the haves and the have nots has never been as wide?

And what happens when the next such "stunt" involves a real person - perhaps someone depressed enough to copycat what they saw on the 5 o'clock news? More importantly, what happens if a depressed jobless person takes their life but first takes out some of those he thinks are responsible for his plight - say Wall Streeters?

What happens then?

We don't know, but sadly we, as well as everyone else, may find out very soon.

What we do know is what happened today. From the AP:

Even by Las Vegas standards, it was a shocking billboard: A mannequin dangling on a hangman's noose below a black sign with the ominous words "Dying for Work."

Nevada Highway Patrol Trooper Jeremie Elliott says the 911 calls started coming in as the sun came up early Wednesday, with drivers worried the stiff, black-suited dummy swaying at the end of a rope along Interstate 15 near Bonanza Road was a real person.

"It's a publicity stunt, obviously done in bad taste," said Elliott, adding that officials were focused on getting it down quickly to avoid distracting drivers during the morning commute.

The graphic display along the interstate was one of at least two unauthorized signs spotted Wednesday morning in the Las Vegas area. Another found on Highland Avenue and Desert Inn Road was white with black lettering that read, "Hope You're Happy Wall St.," and a similar mannequin hanging off the edge.

A woman who answered the phone at Lamar Advertising Co., which owns one of the billboards, labeled the act vandalism and said the display was being removed. She did not provide her name.

Clear Channel Outdoor, which owns another sign that was affected, said they pulled the display immediately and plan to work with law enforcement to punish whoever is responsible.

"We condemn the destructive behavior against one of our billboards because it is illegal and punishes our advertisers," Clear Channel Outdoor spokesman Jim Cullinan said in a statement. "This is not an innocent protest, but it is illegal and dangerous behavior that Clear Channel Outdoor and the industry will not accept."

Not everyone is filled with remorse over this act:

While nobody has publicly claimed responsibility for the signs, the Occupy Las Vegas group, which is affiliated with the larger Occupy Wall Street movement, posted photos of the displays on its website. Its caption says the Nevada governor's budget has slashed social programs and aid to suicidal adults.

Sebring Frehner, an Occupy supporter who posted the photos, told The Associated Press he didn't know who put the hangmen up, but applauded the message behind it.

"People saying it's in bad taste are living sheltered lives and don't pay attention to what affects the working class," he said.

Fair enough. But how does one escalate in order to truly capture the attention of those "living sheltered lives." Will the next fake person be all too real?

Or will America's "working class", having been taken over the edge in its class hatred, decide to pay Wall Street a visit, and bring some mobile guillotines with it for good measure?

And is this really America any more, or is it France circa 1789?

And who will take the place of Louis XVI?

An expose of how the upper echelons of society protect themselves, or should i say, those in positions of power who feel the need to be protected.

Things to note:

2. Alarm button next to bed, with instant SMS to everyone of concern and comms to security

3. The 'red room'. Note to self, remember to lock red room.

This "Homeland Militarization and Flee" also occured in the early 1800s.......when the French Revolution happened, especially aftert the American Revolution occured, Royals around the world were scared they would be next, so they either fled to occupied territories or tighened the belts at home.

you laugh but these measures may very well have saved kim dot coms' life.

think about it. american courts have ruled that the american government has nothing on this guy. the gov may well have known this and have intended to plant a 'shooter' amongst the group of people arresting him. they could have easily claimed he resisted arrest with a planted weapon had he not had a safe room and communications network to publicise his situation.

the real criminals----are the govenrment. the only thing you can do to stop them is publicize that they have you and that you are not yet dead and video tape everything.

Kim comes off as a loud, showy German.  However, in court he comes off as very bright, thoughtful, articulate and he speaks in almost perfect English.  He also talks about his family - his wife and kids.  Kim has been winning the PR in this case or travesty of Fast and Furious "justice."   This latest video made the NZ cops look like fools and lackeys for the US govt.

There is an on-going plot to destroy America.

The plot of the super-rich to convert all governments to socialism which they, the international bankers and business cartels, would control, of course, includes the destruction of American freedom and independence.

How better to do this than to break down her borders and her standard of living and install a presidential unknown (unknown to the people) whose 2012 re-election strategy is to abandon America's genuine middle class in favor of minorities (disproportionately African-American and Hispanic) and of government-agenda liberals designated “voters who have gotten ahead on the basis of educational attainment” -- professors, artists, designers, editors, human resources managers, lawyers, librarians, social workers, teachers and therapists (November 27, 2011 New York Times Op-Ed section by Thomas B. Edsall).

As for the cost of open borders and the resulting changes in America's demographics, it fits Obama’s world picture. According to DemoMemo in January,  “Non-Hispanic whites, not blacks, account for the largest share of people receiving food stamps--42 percent in 2010. Blacks account for 28 percent of food stamp recipients.”

W. Cleon Skousen revealed in The Naked Capitalist, a review of Quigley’s book Tragedy and Hope, that although some of the people in this conspiratorial international power group are among the wealthiest in the world, their seizure of power has resulted from Communist and Socialist legislation.

Quigley, Bill Clinton’s mentor at Georgetown University, thought that the “hope” of the world was in this power network being able to succeed in its quest to take over the world; all those who would resist he designated the “tragedy.” In any case, he believed in 1966 when his book was published that it was already too late for the little people to turn back the tide.

It is an incorrect assumption to conclude that America’s political system produces leaders that truthfully represent what Americans would select if the political party apparatus was not corrupt. Obama isn’t someone Americans would choose; he is someone the Establishment chose for us.

Not only did they force Americans to choose, they forced most Americans to choose between two people nobody wanted.

The baby boomers didn’t pick Obama. He was picked by the banker financed political system and groomed by Axelrod and Emanuel in Chicago.

Not to be bragging on the boomers, but it was the youth and the hyphenated-voters who elected Barack Obama.

Young voters preferred Obama over John McCain by 68 percent to 30 percent — the highest share of the youth vote obtained by any candidate since exit polls began reporting results by age in 1976, according to CIRCLE, a non-partisan organization that promotes research on the political engagement of Americans between ages 15 and 25.

And it’s the hyphenated-voters who are the mainstay of Obama’s and the Democrat constituency. Growing racial and ethnic diversity, which is concentrated among younger generations, has benefited Democrats, and that’s a fact according to Pew Research.

The documented truth is that most baby boomers, those born between 1946 and 1964, could only live “within their means” on the paychecks of two wage earners and now Obama and the bankers want to take away their Social Security entitlement that they’ve paid for all their working lives – just when they’re ready to retire. Not only that, but baby boomers' wealth, including their savings, are “being vacuumed up and sent to developing markets,” and, as Jeremy Grantham writes, being used as one of the “twin pillars of the market.”

And, hey, when did food stamps become an “entitlement”?

“When” you say? When? The middle class is shrinking now. If the Fed isn’t abolished soon, the middle class will be abolished soon.

Brian Beutler reported on June 13, 2012 on TPM that “A new Federal Reserve survey finds that the net worth of a median family plummeted 39 percent — from $126,400 to $77,300 — between 2007 and 2010. And, according to Fed data, “most families were poorer in 2010 than they were in 2001.”

However, according to the NY Times June 11, “The earnings of the median family in the bottom 20 percent of the income distribution actually increased from 2007 to 2010, in part because of the expansion of government aid programs during the recession.” *

“There's a characteristic about what happens when you destroy a currency,” says Ron Paul. “There is a transfer of wealth from the middle class to the wealthy. And this has been going on for 40 years. So the middle class is shrinking. They are getting poorer and they're losing their jobs and they're losing their houses. But Wall Street isn't getting poorer. And they are the ones who are getting the bailout.”

And even more to the point, as Congressman Paul pointed out 1/26/2012 in a GOP Debate: “there's a big difference between those who earn money and those who rip us off through the government and the monetary system.”

But you won’t be hearing that from Mitt Romney – the GOP winnah!

*Note: in that the leftist media lumps a family income of $142,300 or more in 2010 in “the top 10 percent of income” and a net worth of $952,500 in “the top 10 percent of wealth” with Lloyd Blankfein’s family income and net wealth, I never use the figure. You can’t lump a New York family earning $142,300 with Lloyd Blankfein’s banker income and come out with a meaningful “statistic” just to make political taxing hay out of “a typical family in the top 10 percent was wealthier in 2010 than it was in 2001.” That’s statistical heresy.

"There is an on-going plot to destroy America.

Quigley, Bill Clinton’s mentor at Georgetown University, thought that the “hope” of the world was in this power network being able to succeed in its quest to take over the world; all those who would resist he designated the “tragedy.” In any case, he believed in 1966 when his book was published that it was already too late for the little people to turn back the tide."

A fire on the 88th floor of the new Trade Center -- ah, but it was a false alarm.

And another fire at a refinery in the People's Republic of California -- oh, but wait, no - there was no fire after all.

And two Hanged Men -- who turned out to not be real men.

He who has ears -- let him hear.

My first chapter on the Occupy Movement and Attack of the Killer Algorithms for that matter said that's the movement was all about.  When you think of it, how do you battle it.  Heck I even had an editor at Forbes write to me and asked me to explain it as well as a couple emails from some of the folks that were in New York on the street asking me to explain it.  That was wild as I never expected that but I answered and tried to explain this invisible decision making process that has both flawed formulas and flawed data.  The Occupiers didn't know what the roots were for their cause, but they knew something was not right.

You can't talk to the algorithms, find a customer sevice rep that can explain some of what they do, and worse yet, can't eat one for breakfast, so there you have it. Great video at the link on this topic and how the algos have teeth and I was tickled that the doctor used the words "Killer Algorithms" which I kind of coined back in October of 2011 with the first Attack post.

http://ducknetweb.blogspot.com/2012/08/high-frequency-trading-algorithm....

I write about how the algorithms affect us with code running 24/7 on servers we can't see and make life impacting decisions about all of us, and most of my writings include those outside the markets, as they live there too, ie healthcare and insurance.

And that was all, she wrote. That's right, you, worthless tax-paying serf, must subsidize the suicide-prevention program designed by corrupt morons and run by inept and dangerous clinicians. Ask any psychiatrist how suicide prevention works, short of physical violence prevention and constant supervision, the answer, quite simply, is drugs. One more thing, all this talk of revolutions is fantasy. Read up about the French Revolution from some non-government-approved sources, read about how France became a literal hell on earth, read about the genocide and the torture and the purges. The American Revolution was goddamn cakewalk through candyland compared to the French. Only a psychopath would cheer on a war which has a higher probability of killing him than his enemies.

BS.  The French Revolution was a cakewalk compared to the US Civil War.  40,000 died in the French Revolution and the left had the upperhand.  The US Civil War had probably 500,000 dead.  Absolute madness.  WW1 and WW2 were also madness - ditto Korea, Vietnam and the list goes on.

The American Revolution was no cakewalk.  It was far nastier than the average illiterate understands.

The U.S. Civil War was total BS and genocide.  It was not about slavery either.  It was about NE banks and European banking families back both sides that went into debt.  They then sent their "agents" down to the south after the war to grab the textile business and cotton.

If this one goes off it will be like the Finnish-Soviet Winter War in 1939-1940 but even worse.  The Finns smashed the Soviets but lost 25% of their population.  This would be about 65 million people in the USA.  Once the food, water and electricity gets cut off it will get very ugly very fast.

Very likely, that is the reverse.

Considering the percentage of psychopaths among US citizens at key positions and all, it is more likely that a psychopath will shy from a war that has a higher probability of killing him than his enemies.

As shown by US citizens, psychopaths are likely to prefer 'wars' that have a much higher probability of killing his enemies than himself.

Psychopaths are not masochists. They look at the best way to hurt others, not themselves.

But hey, who cares actually? US citizenism is as US citizen does.

It's hard to blame the politicians, they just got elected. Blame the people who voted in those who put us in this financial situation. Including those who voted in our current president. Never has any President spend more and never has the divide between rich and poor been wider. There is a connection and when people figure it out and stop voting in people who promise to give them things with other people's money, at the expense of the economy and jobs, then they can complain.
