The Other Side

Tyler Durden's picture

Originally posted at Reason.com (via Richmond Times-Dispatch),

The past several weeks have made one thing crystal-clear: Our country faces unmitigated disaster if the Other Side wins.

No reasonably intelligent person can deny this. All you have to do is look at the way the Other Side has been running its campaign. Instead of focusing on the big issues that are important to the American People, it has fired a relentlessly negative barrage of distortions, misrepresentations, and flat-out lies.

Just look at the Other Side’s latest commercial, which take a perfectly reasonable statement by the candidate for My Side completely out of context to make it seem as if he is saying something nefarious. This just shows you how desperate the Other Side is and how willing it is to mislead the American People.

The Other Side also has been hammering away at My Side to release certain documents that have nothing to do with anything, and making all sorts of outrageous accusations about what might be in them. Meanwhile, the Other Side has stonewalled perfectly reasonable requests to release its own documents that would expose some very embarrassing details if anybody ever found out what was in them. This just shows you what a bunch of hypocrites they are.

Naturally, the media won’t report any of this. Major newspapers and cable networks jump all over anything they think will make My Side look bad. Yet they completely ignore critically important and incredibly relevant information that would be devastating to the Other Side if it could ever be verified.

I will admit the candidates for My Side do make occasional blunders. These usually happen at the end of exhausting 19-hour days and are perfectly understandable. Our leaders are only human, after all. Nevertheless, the Other Side inevitably makes a big fat deal out of these trivial gaffes, while completely ignoring its own candidates’ incredibly thoughtless and stupid remarks – remarks that reveal the Other Side’s true nature, which is genuinely frightening.

My Side has produced a visionary program that will get the economy moving, put the American People back to work, strengthen national security, return fiscal integrity to Washington, and restore our standing in the international community. What does the Other Side have to offer? Nothing but the same old disproven, discredited policies that got us into our current mess in the first place.

Don’t take my word for it, though. I recently read about an analysis by an independent, nonpartisan organization that supports My Side. It proves beyond the shadow of a doubt that everything I have been saying about the Other Side was true all along. Of course, the Other Side refuses to acknowledge any of this. It is too busy cranking out so-called studies by so-called experts who are actually  nothing but partisan hacks. This just shows you that the Other Side lives in its own little echo chamber and refuses to listen to anyone who has not already drunk its Kool-Aid.

Let’s face it: The Other Side is held hostage by a radical, failed ideology. I have been doing some research on the Internet, and I have learned this ideology was developed by a very obscure but nonetheless profoundly influential writer with a strange-sounding name who enjoyed brief celebrity several decades ago. If you look carefully, you can trace nearly all the Other Side’s policies for the past half-century back to the writings of this one person.

To be sure, the Other Side also has been influenced by its powerful supporters. These include a reclusive billionaire who has funded a number of organizations far outside the political mainstream; several politicians who have said outrageous things over the years; and an alarmingly large number of completely clueless ordinary Americans who are being used as tools and don’t even know it.

These people are really pathetic, too. The other day I saw a YouTube video in which My Side sent an investigator and a cameraman to a rally being held by the Other Side, where the investigator proceeded to ask some real zingers. It was hilarious! First off, the people at the rally wore T-shirts with all kinds of lame messages that they actually thought were really clever. Plus, many of the people who were interviewed were overweight, sweaty, flushed, and generally not very attractive. But what was really funny was how stupid they were. There is no way anyone could watch that video and not come away convinced the people on My Side are smarter, and that My Side is therefore right about everything.

Besides, it’s clear that the people on the Other Side are driven by mindless anger – unlike My Side, which is filled with passionate idealism and righteous indignation. That indignation, I hasten to add, is entirely justified. I have read several articles in publications that support My Side that expose what a truly dangerous group the Other Side is, and how thoroughly committed it is to imposing its radical, failed agenda on the rest of us.

That is why I believe 2012 is, without a doubt, the defining election of our lifetime. The difference between My Side and the Other Side could not be greater. That is why it absolutely must win on November 6.

the bizzarre thing is that romney has guaranteed a war when he's inaugurated, which is a ful 2 months after november 7.

so if romney gets elected, you might have 2 more months of peace under obama. if you elect obama, you might get war on november 8.

vote romney for peace!!!

=====/SARC

your analysis above is just straight up moronic. romney is MORE warmongering than obama, simply because republicans are more war mongering than dems. yea yea, you'll get war either way, but you can bet your ass that republicans will generally supporting endless over-extended wars more. why? because bush's cronies will feel more comfortable serving under romney than they did under obama. the neo-cons who serve obama will be emboldended if he is kicked out for not being hawkish enough. quite possibly leading us to war in the pacific at some point. with northkorea. or the the country whose name rhymes with vagina.

No, his analsys is spot on. Our wars in the middle east had grown very unpopular with the average American in 2008... So what to do if you are the govt behind the govt and wish to not only continue, but expand???? Run an anti-war candidate, get him elected, silence the anti- war crowd and... carry on... and... expand. Just like nafta and GATT would not have passed with an R president... Elect the dem, quiet the opposition, pass the treaties. It's American presidential politics 101. People who buy into the differences between the parties ave been duped.

The media conditioning for war is already complete yet still a majority of Americans and Israelis are opposed to starting a new war.

"A new poll  finds 80% of Americans think Iran has a nuclear weapons program and that it is a threat to the US and its NATO allies. The poll, commissioned by The Israel Project, asked likely voters and found “72% of Democrats, 81% of independents and 89% of Republicans were convinced the Iranians were building nuclear weapons.”

If there is no organized opposition however then there is no chance to stop it from happening and less chance to limit the sphere of engagement, which will cross several nasty borders.

This could very well bring the world to ruin.

Remember: Americans like cheap gas and hate line-ups. Think 2014 mid terms.

Wesley Clarks description of the plan for the New American century is almost complete. If they were really looking for this full on spastic World War III  everyone says the Zionists have planned why would they have bothered to go after places like Somalia, Sudan, Libya and Yemen? Theres a limit to how far they will go in Iran. No doubt they are going to fuck the whole place up but i can't see it being of a magnituide worse than Iraq II.

Looking back now, I do think it was a mistake for Lincoln to have fought the South's secession...  I guess the only way to make up for it now would be to immediately expel those states from the union; then build a wall along the land border like Israel did to Palestine.  And of course, expel Utah and the surrounding Moronm demographic lands, too, with a similar wall around them--full quarantine, travel restrictions on their new nationality, etc...

When Californians hate Texans, Texans hate non-Texans, southerners hate northerners, everybody hates southerners, coast dwellers hate midwesterners, Alaskans hate lower-48ers, Hawaiians hate haole invaders, Guam and Puerto Rico only hang on because they're permanently and uselessly on the dole, and 5/6 of everybody hates every president, WHY exactly is it that it's such a great fucking idea to keep the whole miserable, goddamned union together?

Please........   when is everyone going to wake up and realize that the US is the dreaded 'one world' NWO that everyone is so scared of.... it's easier to blame the UN or NWO for what your one government is backing than realize that the Republic is dead and Empire rules (though that too is collapsing of its own unsustainable weight)

That's the reason so many people hate the US - we're in THEIR country trying to tell them what to do, trying to take THEIR resources at cut-rate prices....the US represents over 40% of the world's military spending... so WHO exactly is going to 'overthrow' the US?  NOBODY.  the US government itself is the 800lb gorilla and everyone else is a bunch of little monkeys who can do no more than occasionally fling feces to express their discontent

The US government is simply a front for world-wide (mainly US) corporations - Smedley Butler had it right - the US military is in the service of American business

Yes, this could take much longer to play out than a lot of people seem to realize, IMHO.  I've been expecting the whole thing to fall apart any day, for decades now.  Just look at Japan.  How long have they stretched it out?  Over 20 years.  It will happen at some point, though.  Europe, then Japan, then the US.  But it could still be years away, and not necessarily during the next presidency.

the collapse will occur over decades . millions impoverished and stripped of their savings, slowly , year by year, according to the plan, including increased warfare, increased domestic spying , increased consolidation of banking sector , and

if all goes according to plan, increased 'free trade' partnerships. It's hard to imagine this all going off without a hitch. but the american public has proven one thing over the years, they're certainly stupid and passive enough to allow it to happen as long as you boil them slowly like frogs.

The one guy, and his administration are Marxists.  I wonder how many of the 20, 30, and 40 something folks know about the full evils of marxism & Communism?  I wonder what the gays, lesbians, and whatever else you call these folks that are otherwise queer, understand about marxism & Communism?  I wonder just how many of these folks understand that they will be the first ones to be executed?  The other guy, yeah the guy with more dough then anyone can spend in a life-time, at least he's not a marxist.  I suspect that for the gay, lesbian, and whatever else these folks are called, that they actually have a better lot with this guy.  Either way, we're going off the cliff.

With the marxist, well, I'ld be worried if I wasn't a full fledged marxist with a usefulness beyond the simple PHd in nuclear sciences.  Well, since I'm not a marxist, I'm worried.  Just look at China and the frmr Soviet Union for examples.

Romnrey has the business background and flat out common sense as does Ryan. I think we can all agree watching Europe how much market action happens and just talk and Rumor. Just slapping the EPA around and getting energy production back on track will do the US wonders. Once spending slows and growth picks up, health care is decided upon even if only microscopically positive we will see more investment, more emplpument and risk on. Yes, a collapse is just a matter of time, and it will be one hell of a disruption globally. After the social chaos dies down in the US only a return to true Constitutional government will enable survivors to restore society.

Some ignored advice from long ago:

All obstructions to the execution of the laws, all combinations and associations, under whatever plausible character, with the real design to direct, control, counteract, or awe the regular deliberation and action of the constituted authorities, are destructive of this fundamental principle, and of fatal tendency. They serve to organize faction, to give it an artificial and extraordinary force; to put, in the place of the delegated will of the nation the will of a party, often a small but artful and enterprising minority of the community; and, according to the alternate triumphs of different parties, to make the public administration the mirror of the ill-concerted and incongruous projects of faction, rather than the organ of consistent and wholesome plans digested by common counsels and modified by mutual interests.

However combinations or associations of the above description may now and then answer popular ends, they are likely, in the course of time and things, to become potent engines, by which cunning, ambitious, and unprincipled men will be enabled to subvert the power of the people and to usurp for themselves the reins of government, destroying afterwards the very engines which have lifted them to unjust dominion.

Towards the preservation of your government, and the permanency of your present happy state, it is requisite, not only that you steadily discountenance irregular oppositions to its acknowledged authority, but also that you resist with care the spirit of innovation upon its principles, however specious the pretexts. One method of assault may be to effect, in the forms of the Constitution, alterations which will impair the energy of the system, and thus to undermine what cannot be directly overthrown. In all the changes to which you may be invited, remember that time and habit are at least as necessary to fix the true character of governments as of other human institutions; that experience is the surest standard by which to test the real tendency of the existing constitution of a country; that facility in changes, upon the credit of mere hypothesis and opinion, exposes to perpetual change, from the endless variety of hypothesis and opinion; and remember, especially, that for the efficient management of your common interests, in a country so extensive as ours, a government of as much vigor as is consistent with the perfect security of liberty is indispensable. Liberty itself will find in such a government, with powers properly distributed and adjusted, its surest guardian. It is, indeed, little else than a name, where the government is too feeble to withstand the enterprises of faction, to confine each member of the society within the limits prescribed by the laws, and to maintain all in the secure and tranquil enjoyment of the rights of person and property.

I have already intimated to you the danger of parties in the State, with particular reference to the founding of them on geographical discriminations. Let me now take a more comprehensive view, and warn you in the most solemn manner against the baneful effects of the spirit of party generally.

This spirit, unfortunately, is inseparable from our nature, having its root in the strongest passions of the human mind. It exists under different shapes in all governments, more or less stifled, controlled, or repressed; but, in those of the popular form, it is seen in its greatest rankness, and is truly their worst enemy.

The alternate domination of one faction over another, sharpened by the spirit of revenge, natural to party dissension, which in different ages and countries has perpetrated the most horrid enormities, is itself a frightful despotism. But this leads at length to a more formal and permanent despotism. The disorders and miseries which result gradually incline the minds of men to seek security and repose in the absolute power of an individual; and sooner or later the chief of some prevailing faction, more able or more fortunate than his competitors, turns this disposition to the purposes of his own elevation, on the ruins of public liberty.

Without looking forward to an extremity of this kind (which nevertheless ought not to be entirely out of sight), the common and continual mischiefs of the spirit of party are sufficient to make it the interest and duty of a wise people to discourage and restrain it.

It serves always to distract the public councils and enfeeble the public administration. It agitates the community with ill-founded jealousies and false alarms, kindles the animosity of one part against another, foments occasionally riot and insurrection. It opens the door to foreign influence and corruption, which finds a facilitated access to the government itself through the channels of party passions. Thus the policy and the will of one country are subjected to the policy and will of another.

There is an opinion that parties in free countries are useful checks upon the administration of the government and serve to keep alive the spirit of liberty. This within certain limits is probably true; and in governments of a monarchical cast, patriotism may look with indulgence, if not with favor, upon the spirit of party. But in those of the popular character, in governments purely elective, it is a spirit not to be encouraged. From their natural tendency, it is certain there will always be enough of that spirit for every salutary purpose. And there being constant danger of excess, the effort ought to be by force of public opinion, to mitigate and assuage it. A fire not to be quenched, it demands a uniform vigilance to prevent its bursting into a flame, lest, instead of warming, it should consume.

And by the way (for those who are allegedly so concerned about their freedoms and liberties*) ol George also had this to say in his Farewell Address:

Hence, likewise, they will avoid the necessity of those overgrown military establishments which, under any form of government, are inauspicious to liberty, and which are to be regarded as particularly hostile to republican liberty.

* You know who you are...

While I'm at it...

Where might this part of Washington's Farewell Address apply in today's (dis)United States of America? I'm pretty sure those it applies to will once again know who you are...

In the execution of such a plan, nothing is more essential than that permanent, inveterate antipathies against particular nations, and passionate attachments for others, should be excluded; and that, in place of them, just and amicable feelings towards all should be cultivated. The nation which indulges towards another a habitual hatred or a habitual fondness is in some degree a slave. It is a slave to its animosity or to its affection, either of which is sufficient to lead it astray from its duty and its interest. Antipathy in one nation against another disposes each more readily to offer insult and injury, to lay hold of slight causes of umbrage, and to be haughty and intractable, when accidental or trifling occasions of dispute occur. Hence, frequent collisions, obstinate, envenomed, and bloody contests. The nation, prompted by ill-will and resentment, sometimes impels to war the government, contrary to the best calculations of policy. The government sometimes participates in the national propensity, and adopts through passion what reason would reject; at other times it makes the animosity of the nation subservient to projects of hostility instigated by pride, ambition, and other sinister and pernicious motives. The peace often, sometimes perhaps the liberty, of nations, has been the victim.

So likewise, a passionate attachment of one nation for another produces a variety of evils. Sympathy for the favorite nation, facilitating the illusion of an imaginary common interest in cases where no real common interest exists, and infusing into one the enmities of the other, betrays the former into a participation in the quarrels and wars of the latter without adequate inducement or justification. It leads also to concessions to the favorite nation of privileges denied to others which is apt doubly to injure the nation making the concessions; by unnecessarily parting with what ought to have been retained, and by exciting jealousy, ill-will, and a disposition to retaliate, in the parties from whom equal privileges are withheld. And it gives to ambitious, corrupted, or deluded citizens (who devote themselves to the favorite nation), facility to betray or sacrifice the interests of their own country, without odium, sometimes even with popularity; gilding, with the appearances of a virtuous sense of obligation, a commendable deference for public opinion, or a laudable zeal for public good, the base or foolish compliances of ambition, corruption, or infatuation.

As avenues to foreign influence in innumerable ways, such attachments are particularly alarming to the truly enlightened and independent patriot. How many opportunities do they afford to tamper with domestic factions, to practice the arts of seduction, to mislead public opinion, to influence or awe the public councils. Such an attachment of a small or weak towards a great and powerful nation dooms the former to be the satellite of the latter.

Against the insidious wiles of foreign influence (I conjure you to believe me, fellow-citizens) the jealousy of a free people ought to be constantly awake, since history and experience prove that foreign influence is one of the most baneful foes of republican government. But that jealousy to be useful must be impartial; else it becomes the instrument of the very influence to be avoided, instead of a defense against it. Excessive partiality for one foreign nation and excessive dislike of another cause those whom they actuate to see danger only on one side, and serve to veil and even second the arts of influence on the other. Real patriots who may resist the intrigues of the favorite are liable to become suspected and odious, while its tools and dupes usurp the applause and confidence of the people, to surrender their interests.

Yes I realize that at that time Washington was referring to nations of Europe. But his advice applies equally well to nations in other geographical locations.

No it was not us. We were conned so don't blame the victim. It was the traitors we elected, they were elected to serve their country. They took an oath and as soon as they were sworn in they ignored it.They gave us empty promises while they took their orders from the money men while also enriching themselves. We can call them banksters, criminals ,Zionists(because they are ALL Jewish), or owners, whatever awake people want to call the scum of humanity.

The debtors are always the slaves of the creditors.

Until the monetary system is changed and the current owners are dethroned and stripped of their illegal wealth the human race is destined for the same shit that has been going on since the leaders of governments gave the criminals the power to create money and collect interest on it.

We with other nations are a colony of a monopolistic private corporation, cabal, cartel, criminal organized crime syndicate,or whatever logical people call them. They stole it all and they make us believe the opposite, that they are just very intelligent successful business men! GANGSTERS

"Who are the criminals", whiny pussy? How far back you wanna go? In Rome, it was the Cornelii and the Flavii until the Emperors came along. Then Charlemagne's family & friends ran the show for awhile; then Big Willie the Conqueror, then the Plantagents, then the Medici & Borgias & the Sforza, then the Fuggers, then the Khans, then the Tudors, the Bourbons, Cromwell, Napoleon, Bismarck...and that tkes us to the 20th century. Of course, there were always the various Popes doing *their* best to steal everything that wasn't nailed down, too.

Now we hit the 20th century, and instead of blaming the likely suspects: Roosevelts, Tafts, Morgan, Fords, Firestone, Rockefellers, Buffet, Ellison, Gates.....you focus like a little bitch on just one (1) family: the eeeebil Jooooos, the Rothschilds. Who I have no doubt are doing their best to fuck the people and run the whole show, just like everyone listed above did.

You're even stupider than I first thought - incredible and mathematically improbable as that is - and run around hiding and whining about your imaginary enemies, who don't care if you live or die. Lighten up cum swallower, I'm just writing science fiction. Because none of what I write about can be proven as fact then what I write about is not true. The "godfather" was fiction based on the early days of italian gangsters taken from reality. What i write about is my imagination,"and run around hiding and whining about your imaginary enemies". In reality I'm actually sitting in a chair with my legs up. So what you imagined and wrote about was fiction. If you would have wrote "flying around in your jooz detector stealth interceptor and hiding and whining about your imaginary enemies". That would be science fiction because I do not own a stealth interceptor.

My writing is based on something that does not exist. Criminal Jews controlling the Banking, defense, energy and military industries. Owning and controlling all governments and politicians that borrow from them. Sorta based on history huh?

Come on now think, how can that be real why would we just not eliminate the cancer if that was reality? They are not a nation of men but a corporation of individuals who steal their wealth from the rest of the individuals on the planet for their benefit and profit. They have no standing army ,navy or airforce to enforce this reality just money they create, so how can this possibly be real or true? We all would have to be using your words "even stupider than I first thought".

Writing fiction about reality "godfather". Writing  about a Criminal Jewish Banking Cartel conspiracy that does not exist is Science Fiction.

If you believe otherwise then you're just creating another conspiracy.  Don't we have enough?

I don't have a "side."  I am not registered in any Party.  I am wholly independent.  But I can tell you this about "the other side" in THIS election.  Obama has proven to me in the last four years who he is and what his ideas and policies result in, and I want no part of any more of it.  I dont' know if Romney-Ryan can pull off some kind of miracle to turn the nation around, but I DO KNOW that Obama will work to bring about its fall.  A failure to vote or a vote for Obama truly is a vote for death. So, in this election, "the Other Side" means something.  The Democratic ticket, the Party itself, has become The Evil Party, promoting all things contrary to common sense and decency.

Follow the money troll.  Yeah, I am sure that Romney (backed by the same financial houses and banks that got Obama elected in 2008) will take the country in a different direction.  Any suprise he picked Ryan as a running mate.  let's see.  Ryan voted for ALL the bailouts (GM, Fanny/Freddie, TARP, TALF etc.) and then voted against any oversight on how those funds were deployed.  Basically just give these failed businesses a blank fucking check.

That's a good sheep...

Didn't we have one of those "politically connected business man" the prior 8 years?  Things sure turned out well in the end, right?

I'll only vote for someone that raises Capital Gains back to 32% (Regan Era), cut spending so that we have a surplus and propose further cuts the following year, quit reallocating funds from SS and Medicare so that we can see what it truly takes to run those programs and make appropriate cuts, has the balls to tell China to "go fuck themselves".  Pulls us out of these conflicts and takes a more closed approach to intervening in foreign affairs (Look how well we did with Libya....), Comes up with a viable energy solution, and proposes term limits on both the House and Senate, and tells the FRB to go fuck themselves sideways, while tearing down the TBTF's, and bringing OTC onto an exchange with transparency.

One looks white, one looks black. That's the difference, the whole difference, the only difference. Get the fuck over it.

Yea, akak is a 2 year plant for Obama.  Wake up moron.  Romney is a fucking flip flop placating politician.  So you honestly think he is going to roll back all the totalitarian security state bullshit in this country?  He is making way to much money for that.  I hear he his is chomping at the bit to disband the TSA and DHS.  No more domestic drone use and Patriot Act rollback.  Yea, I wonder who the Troll is mister 2 weeks?

Romney wants war.  That's what his handlers told him to want.

Neither one will accomplish anything that is worthwhile and probably a lot that is not.

I hope Ron Paul gets to speak.

I see you are eager for WWIII, and being Israel's constant bitch.

He also supports NDAA, the Patriot Act, TARP, Law of Sea Treaty (although it is dead for now), and on and on.....

But then again, you must believe in the fairytale of 9/11, so I digress.

Why yes, the differences are indeed stark. On the one hand we have an effete Ivy Leaguer who funded his entire executive term on borrowed money and cranked up deficit spending, signed legislation making health care a role of government, doesn't like a broad interpretation of the 2nd Amendment, appoints left wing judges, thinks the Boy Scouts are big meanies for not wanting gay scoutmasters, never served in the military yet has repeatedly demonstrated a willingness to mess around militarily in the Middle East in unaffordable struggles- and on the other hand we have Obama.

Wow, with a contrast like that how can anyone think its bullshit? I bet they are America hating malcontents who think only having the options of Coke or Pepsi isn't much of a choice either.

I figure you're a bit of a dumbass who soaks up way too much propaganda on TV and talk radio.

We may need to concede that the crony-fascist far left statist in the elephant costume may destroy the Untied States more slowly than the criminally-insane communist extreme left Kenyan Usurper.

Neither division of the ruling party will change anything and I'm sure both support central banking and the billion-round ammo purchases for Dept Fatherland Tyranny, Social Insecurity and NOAA.

Sorry, I can't vote for evil, even the lesser of.  I will be spitting in their eyes and voting for the Libertarian candidate, Gary Johnson.

Voting is only legitamizing the con game.  You're saying I agree to live with the consequences of this voting system.  Ron Paul's supports tried to change the system from within and look what happened to that.  Imagine if only 1% of the population voted this year.  We are the 99% would take on a whole new meaning.
