The Other Side

Originally posted at Reason.com (via Richmond Times-Dispatch),

The past several weeks have made one thing crystal-clear: Our country faces unmitigated disaster if the Other Side wins.

No reasonably intelligent person can deny this. All you have to do is look at the way the Other Side has been running its campaign. Instead of focusing on the big issues that are important to the American People, it has fired a relentlessly negative barrage of distortions, misrepresentations, and flat-out lies.

Just look at the Other Side’s latest commercial, which take a perfectly reasonable statement by the candidate for My Side completely out of context to make it seem as if he is saying something nefarious. This just shows you how desperate the Other Side is and how willing it is to mislead the American People.

The Other Side also has been hammering away at My Side to release certain documents that have nothing to do with anything, and making all sorts of outrageous accusations about what might be in them. Meanwhile, the Other Side has stonewalled perfectly reasonable requests to release its own documents that would expose some very embarrassing details if anybody ever found out what was in them. This just shows you what a bunch of hypocrites they are.

Naturally, the media won’t report any of this. Major newspapers and cable networks jump all over anything they think will make My Side look bad. Yet they completely ignore critically important and incredibly relevant information that would be devastating to the Other Side if it could ever be verified.

I will admit the candidates for My Side do make occasional blunders. These usually happen at the end of exhausting 19-hour days and are perfectly understandable. Our leaders are only human, after all. Nevertheless, the Other Side inevitably makes a big fat deal out of these trivial gaffes, while completely ignoring its own candidates’ incredibly thoughtless and stupid remarks – remarks that reveal the Other Side’s true nature, which is genuinely frightening.

My Side has produced a visionary program that will get the economy moving, put the American People back to work, strengthen national security, return fiscal integrity to Washington, and restore our standing in the international community. What does the Other Side have to offer? Nothing but the same old disproven, discredited policies that got us into our current mess in the first place.

Don’t take my word for it, though. I recently read about an analysis by an independent, nonpartisan organization that supports My Side. It proves beyond the shadow of a doubt that everything I have been saying about the Other Side was true all along. Of course, the Other Side refuses to acknowledge any of this. It is too busy cranking out so-called studies by so-called experts who are actually  nothing but partisan hacks. This just shows you that the Other Side lives in its own little echo chamber and refuses to listen to anyone who has not already drunk its Kool-Aid.

Let’s face it: The Other Side is held hostage by a radical, failed ideology. I have been doing some research on the Internet, and I have learned this ideology was developed by a very obscure but nonetheless profoundly influential writer with a strange-sounding name who enjoyed brief celebrity several decades ago. If you look carefully, you can trace nearly all the Other Side’s policies for the past half-century back to the writings of this one person.

To be sure, the Other Side also has been influenced by its powerful supporters. These include a reclusive billionaire who has funded a number of organizations far outside the political mainstream; several politicians who have said outrageous things over the years; and an alarmingly large number of completely clueless ordinary Americans who are being used as tools and don’t even know it.

These people are really pathetic, too. The other day I saw a YouTube video in which My Side sent an investigator and a cameraman to a rally being held by the Other Side, where the investigator proceeded to ask some real zingers. It was hilarious! First off, the people at the rally wore T-shirts with all kinds of lame messages that they actually thought were really clever. Plus, many of the people who were interviewed were overweight, sweaty, flushed, and generally not very attractive. But what was really funny was how stupid they were. There is no way anyone could watch that video and not come away convinced the people on My Side are smarter, and that My Side is therefore right about everything.

Besides, it’s clear that the people on the Other Side are driven by mindless anger – unlike My Side, which is filled with passionate idealism and righteous indignation. That indignation, I hasten to add, is entirely justified. I have read several articles in publications that support My Side that expose what a truly dangerous group the Other Side is, and how thoroughly committed it is to imposing its radical, failed agenda on the rest of us.

That is why I believe 2012 is, without a doubt, the defining election of our lifetime. The difference between My Side and the Other Side could not be greater. That is why it absolutely must win on November 6.

If you're too young to remember 1969 thru 1981, ask someone u trust.

If you were there recall the politician's responses.

It was a time of Stagflation.   That word will be used soon, in this era.

The 'Bob Hope" generation entered their 'spend less-save more' life stage.  YOUR Grandparents!

Understand that the baby-boom is in the same life-stage. YOUR Parents!

NOT ONE POLITICIAN WILL ADMIT THEY ARE HELPLESS to restart Growth!  They will wait this thing out, just like before.

We must demand cuts in Government spending, to match cuts in REVENUE.

Each year, I am moving 401-K money into Roth-IRA accounts.  Since I'm not working, foreigners are, there is NO tax cost!

I WILL HAVE LOTS OF TAX FREE INCOME, for the rest of my children's lives!

SO CAN YOU!

As long as we vote for the lesser of two evils we contribute to the lie an I will not participate! You hear me? I will not fucking participate! We as people deserve better than the lesser of two evils! Our kids deserve better than the lesser if two evils . I'm tired of it! And I will not!... not...participate in the lie any longer. Been rolling since 4:50 this morning, going to get up early again, go for a bike ride, swim, jog, lift some weights, have breakfast with some friends and do some visiting, shoot some trap. I love the smell of gunpowder on my hands.

Then I will get together with my lady and give her a big hug, play some guitar, work on my plan for world conquest and domination which consists mostly of living and loving the good life, trying to understand WTF is going on without getting freaked out and tuning out the BS.

That's my side.

I would pronounce this "election" DOA. It's not like there was ever a true majority of Americans who voted one way or the other. But judging by the comments here, I'd say Americans are AWAKE more than ever and basically have come to conclude that THEY DON'T GIVE A RATS ASS because it DOES NOT MATTER one way or the other.

But it makes for crappy entertainment and lots and lots of completely redundant discussions and wasted energy. Not to mention wasted finances.

Please, someone have the balls and TAKE THIS COUNTRY OVER. I just might follow any real DEAR LEADER who puts an end to this farce of a democracy and puts the bankers and their affiliate lawyers in jail. Then we can START from scratch.

"someone have the balls and TAKE THIS COUNTRY OVER"

The country was taken over, we need it back and these political parties don't have a ball between them all (plenty of nuts to go around in each party... just no balls) ... all it would take is doing the right thing once and for all and bring justice back.  The people would go wild seeing corrupt bankers getting justice served to them, not with bullets but with financial destruction to them personally (finally) with a lengthy jail sentence ... the opportunity would fraught with dangers of the bankers trying to ruin as much as possible before they get sent away ... alas I dream of justice.

I'm voting for the other side that is not currently actively trying to crash the economy on purpose. Obama has clearly shown us what he wants to do.

I'm voting for the choir boys who have the best chance of rebuilding a country post-collapse that would be still be recognizable. Remember Obama's close pal, Bill Ayers, already has said he was willing to murder 25 million Americans who could not be 're-educated'.  Any alternative to that seems like a good thing.

As for the phoney 'war against women' fear mongering...

A former Obama female voter, 36 yo accountant with masters degree, said this:  I worked hard to have a family, home, and career and I aalready make most of the family decisions. I have everything, but it's at risk. Now, Obama comes along and says he's going to protect a women's right to choose. CHOOSE WHAT?  He and a bunch of bureaucrats want to tell me and my family what to eat, what light bulbs to use, what car to drive, how much I can earn, what doctor we all must go to, what treatments my kids get -- with no recourse, and what drivel they're taught in school... and the list just never ends... and never will!  Barack and Michelle Obama can get their damn Gucci shoes the hell out of my refrigerator. I'd rather be 8 months pregnant with a wife beater, at least I could still kick his ass out and choose to do what I want.

I still have my voter regitration card from my old neighborhood. Since the registrar  doesn't give a damn I will spend my day voting for Ron Paul in two precients. The Decocratic Precinct has few voting machines, very long lines and I might be able to fight the crowds and the two, broken most of the time, voting machines to cast my vote ;in the Democratic precinct after waiting in lines around the block. I will be lucky to cast my vote in three hours time.

Then I will glide into my new, Republican, voting precinct with the plethora of multi functional  voting machines and cast my vote in mere minutes while the valet waits by my car while I quickly cast my ballot.

Democrat: 1000 voters, one machine that works and , always, one broken.

Republican: 1 voter, two fully functional machines.

I know since I live, and voted, in the ghetto for 15 years.

If you get the polygamist elected you will get what you deserve.

At least the President stays on, perpetual, family vacation and lets the Khazars run the country; into the ground, while he racks up the miles on AF-1. I can't say I blame him. He couldn't do diddly-squat without getting his head blown off so it is better that he stay on his, hopefully, eight year ,family world tour while Wall Street rips the economy in shreds.

I talked to my sister about the financial crisis in 2007 and she said: I am glad I pissed my earnings away having a good time seeing the places I wanted to see and enjoying myself instead of worrying about my future.

I thought she quite insane at the moment but, now appreciate her wisdom.

IMF advises delaying austerity until growth returns

Cutting government spending in a crisis will condemn a country to an even deeper recession and inflict “permanent” damage on the economy, the International Monetary Fund has warned.
Britain's Chancellor of the Exchequer George Osborne

By Philip Aldrick, Economics Editor - The Telegraph

4:49PM BST 24 Aug 2012

In a paper that will only add to the pressure on the Chancellor, the Bretton Woods institution urged governments to delay austerity until growth returns or – if a delay was not possible – to shift the burden of any programme on to higher taxes and larger benefit cuts.

The IMF study emerged as official figures showed that the recession in the UK had not been as deep as previously feared. GDP contracted by 0.5pc in the three months to June, according to the Office for National Statistics (ONS), less than the 0.7pc decline initially estimated.

Stripping out the effect of the extra day’s bank holiday for the Diamond Jubilee, the economy stagnated – with growth over the three months estimated at zero.

The IMF paper echoed recent findings by the National Institute of Economic and Social Research that austerity causes more harm in recessions than at times of growth. “If you diet when you are sick, you’ll probably get a lot sicker,” Nicoletta Batini, one of the authors of the IMF report, told the BBC.

She added that every £1 cut from spending in periods of economic strength might reduce national income by 50p “but if you do it at a bad time, it could be £2 or even more than £2 permanently”.

The report, which did not examine the UK situation but focused on the US, Europe and Japan, was an attempt to identify the best pace and structure of fiscal consolidation. While recommending waiting if possible, it accepted that some countries had no choice but to cut their debts.

In that case, the IMF said: “If consolidations need to be implemented during downturns, they should prioritise increases in net taxes.” It defined “net taxes” as both increases in tax and reductions in benefits. By switching the emphasis of the cuts, she said, governments could maintain infrastructure spending.

[code for weapons programs]

“These are painful decisions. But abandoning productive programmes destroys jobs while higher [net] taxes do not – at least in the short term,” she said.

Roughly 40pc of George Osborne’s £123bn consolidation plan is scheduled to come from tax rises, benefit cuts, and lower debt interest costs, according to the Institute for Fiscal Studies. The Government is thought to be examining plans for further benefit cuts to redirect the money into infrastructure such as council housing.

[i.e. Soviet-style appartments blocks]

Last month, the IMF warned the Chancellor he should relax his austerity programme in next March’s Budget if the outlook has worsened. However, the institution has so far been supportive of the UK policy mix.

The ONS’s decision to revise up its estimate for UK growth failed to restore much confidence in the outlook. The detail provided “further evidence that the purported rebalancing of the UK economy is coming at the expense of growth”, Andrew Benito, a UK economist at Goldman Sachs, said. Net trade deducted 1 percentage point from growth while consumer spending sliced 0.3 percentage points off output.

Steven Bryce, a Credit Suisse economist, said: “This is in line with our view that the UK is currently stagnating rather than contracting.”

Most economists now expect the UK economy to contract this year and for the Bank of England to respond with more stimulus measures. Martin Weale, a Bank ratesetter, said he favoured an interest rate cut over more quantitative easing, if it could be proved rate cuts did not put banks in difficulty.

“If it were clear that the interest rate could be reduced ... without finding some banks got themselves into a position where they had to reduce lending because of the effects of an interest rate cut on their profits, I think I would probably prefer that to more QE, if I was choosing between them,” he told The Herald.

This is the problem, as akak wrote:

"Voting for Obama = Voting for Romney = Voting for Obama = Voting for Romney."

But that is simply incorrect.  Any adult who cannot see a difference is either insane or is part of the Obama bootlicking campaign.  Romney is not the man I would want to run for President if I had a choice.  But as between deliberate, intentional evil (i.e., Obama's collectivism and Statism is only a few small degrees from genuine Fascism/Marxism which, in the end, are both simply totalitarianism) and misguided but benignly intended policies on many, if not most, issues, I will take the latter.

Some knucklehead above wrote that voting for Romney under these circumstances is moral cowardice.  Laughable, were it not for the sad truth behind it that Obama has won the poor saps head, heart, and soul.

Again, a failure to vote is a vote for Obama AND EVERYTHING HE HAS DONE, STANDS FOR, AND WILL DO.  I know that I cannot live with all of that blood on my conscience. How about  you?

So they can provide the puppet with the "solution".

“Only a crisis - actual or perceived - produces real change. When that crisis occurs, the actions that are taken depend on the ideas that are lying around. That, I believe, is our basic function: to develop alternatives to existing policies, to keep them alive and available until the politically impossible becomes the politically inevitable.”
