Postcards From A Furious China

Tyler Durden's picture

Over the past 48 hours we have written much, describing the perfectly expected surge in nationalist fervor and anti-Japanese sentiment, as the Senkaku Islands Snafu hits its boiling point - a Japan whose GDP is now declining in real terms, whose economy has been crippled by years of deflation, whose infrastructure is impaired due to anti-nuclear power sentiment, and one which generally can not afford an all out diplomatic, political and economic conflict with China, and may thus ask itself: why escalate and just who prompted it do so now? A Japan whose economic status is best summarized with the following chart:

Instead we'll let the pictures do the talking.

From brightonatreddit

Yes, but the fact is it's manufactured chaos.

By whom?

For what purpose?

Cui bono? (who gains)

These are the things to keep in mind as we watch it unfold

You believe that a God-like entity rules the world and can create havoc wherever and whenever it wants to, eh? Everything is so simple, eh? Fact, eh?

You wish. Life is complicated. There are too many variables, too many forces competing, too much greed, too much stupidity. It is a huge matrix and no one is in total command. So, please stop summarizing everything to one simple sentence. Nothing is that simple.

What is China going to do?  Bring down Japan with malfunctioning rockets, Hollywood style footage of non-existent fighter planes, and other 50 year old left over Soviet weapons?  Unfortunately, they haven’t had enough time to copy modern day military technology or steal enough trade secrets from "joint ventures" to do shit to an advanced country like Japan.  The Chinese people can show all the national pride they want, but the party leaders know they aren't going to do shit.

Is that the model plane they showed on the ground and then clips from Top Gun of it “flying”?  The Chinese are not technologically advanced.  All of the technology they have is either stolen or badly attempted reverse engineering.  They are at least 60 years behind the modern world and they won't do shit.

They have cash on hand though. Lots of it. Money buys everything. Besides, remember those Russian T34 tanks? They were crap and no match for the Pantzers but could be produced in far greater numbers. Guess who was victorious.

Sun, 09/16/2012 - 21:47 | 2801981 FleaMarketPete
FleaMarketPete's picture

You guys are missing the point.  The problem with stealing technology is that you can't steal the creativity or thought development that made it and that's the problem with China.  That's why they only "create" textiles and cheap defective children’s toys.

And who exactly are they going to buy it from exactly?  North Korea?  Iran?  Russia?  Rusty old relics from the Cold War.  Give me a break.  Japan won’t need to fight a WWII style of land invasion of China to make them cry mercy.

FleaMarketPete asked:

Dude, this isn't 1952. You seem to think they're only armed with Flashing Thunders®, bricks of Black Cat® firecrackers, and bundles of pop bottle rockets (w/ report).

Unfortunately, they haven’t had enough time to copy modern day military technology or steal enough trade secrets from "joint ventures" to do shit to an advanced country like Japan.

They haven't need jack shit from joint ventures. For the last decade, most of the secrets of modern military technology have been available for downloading from unsecured/compromised Windows® boxes as well as from idiots in government and the defense industry who inadvertently shared all their drives (including network drives) with misconfigured peer-to-peer file sharing programs. It's all been low hanging fruit.

Stealing technology is not the same as DEVELOPING technology.   There's no way in hell China will attack Japan.    #1 because they would get absolutely dominated and #2 they would expose to their people just how far behind they really are.  This is very much like Saddam popping off about how US boots would never set foot on Iraqi soil yadda yadda yadda..

It's doubtful anyone in China can find the Senkaku Islands on a map. Can the Chinese 'invade' and take over the islands? Maybe, why bother?

Americans often make the silly mistake of believing that the Chinese are modern and enlightened citizens of the industrial world. Wrong, the vast majority of Chinese are fervently nationalistic, absolutely xenophobic and stunningly ignorant of the rest of the world.

Actually, it is "Oriental", except for among hyper-politically-correct and geographically clueless Americans, who do not realize that the Orient is not synonymous with the entire continent of Asia.  Indians, Arabs, Iranians, Russians, Israelis, Armenians, Pakistanis, and Turks are all "Asian" as well.  But when did precision or logic ever get in the way of a misguided politically-correct redefinition?

Very nasty business. Poor Japan is toast. They've been set adrift by US foreign policy.

Big power vacuum already being left behind by an absent USA growing saggy old tits. Rest of World not wasting time picking the bones. This is going to accelerate globally. Regional conflicts will break out all over with MB, China, and Somali pirates filling the voids. Soviet style collapse.

If TPTB are scheduling another global crises now to swing the USA presidential election in favor of the comfy incumbent, they would be mistaken.

the thing is, the ECB and Fed have sent oil prices up, China is a net importer. Israel will send oil over 120+ if they drop bombs of Iran, Iran will 100% attack Saudi Arabia.  Japan is also a net importer.

So...

War is on the cards.

Throughout history, wars have served as terrific excuses to print currency (which is something that Japan will eventually be forced to do.)

Also, wars can divert attention from economic problems at home. If China has a hard landing, a war with Japan could be just the thing distract Chinese from anger with their own government. So a small war might serve the interests of both governments.

Let us just hope that things don't spiral out of control over there.

Japan's argument is based on the fact in modern era as it was clearly defined as a part of Japan in mid 19th century and, it was internationally endorsed by San Fransico Treaty in 1947 after WW II.

China's argument is based on very ambiguous chinese document written in 16th century of Ming Dynasty.

Well, if China's argument is right, why Tibet or Uyghur or Inner Mongol or any other places where non-chinese have been inhabitant historically are the part of China ?

i guess you should study more history:

DiaoYu Island was annexed from China by Japan during the first Sino-Japanese war in early 19 century.

After WWII, the Allies(including China) made the Potsdam Declaration:

"....

"Japanese sovereignty shall be limited to the islands of Honshu, Hokkaido, Kyushu, Shikoku and such minor islands as we determine." As had been announced in the Cairo Declaration in 1943.

....",

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Potsdam_Declaration

and Cairo Declaration:

"....

All territories Japan had won from China, such as Manchuria (Dongbei), Formosa (Taiwan), and the Pescadores (Penghu), shall be restored to the Republic of China.

...."

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cairo_Declaration

So, in fact Japan has no claim of ownership of Diaoyu Island after WWII.

However, due to the cold war, US release the island to Japan(Treaty of San Francisco), and hence the conflict today...

P.S., China splitted into P.R. of China, and R. of China after civil war in 1949.

Something is very wrong with this picture.  The Chinese follow Sun Tzu's principles very closely, so why a blantant display like this?  Are they simply bluffing the Japanese?  Are they deflecting their populations attention away from their internal economic problems (maybe they are much worse than we know?)  Or is this meant as a message to Washington?

There are two things I am sick of reading about:

Hypocritical Chinese robotrons blathering about how they own the sea thousands of kilometers from their shores and all other nations are trying to destroy their peace loving pursuit of altruism, while they commit genocide in Tibet, threaten Taiwan, Philippines, Japan, Vietnam, etc., with their peaceful ways. When the Chinese are not busy factory fishing the oceans and wiping out all the endangered species if of the earth in search of erectile dysfunction cures, they are dumping waste into the sea and firing lasers at satellites. I was stuck in a hotel with a huge Chinese tour group and the first two into the restaurant rushed to the buffet table and carried the whole salmon centerpiece to their table with their hands where they ate it like starving park squirrels working on a potato chip.

The other thing that is making me sick is this whole Islam is a religion of peace bullshit. Since when in the last 1400 years has THAT been true? I mean, what exactly do they have to do to make you snap out of your dream? So somebody supposedly made a movie that accurately portrays the muslim prophet (notice I don’t say The Prophet, that would be insulting to all other intelligent people and you never see BBC or CNN saying, The Lord Buddha or The Lord Jesus Christ, do you?) according to Muslim texts. And what happens? They go crazy. When? Coincidentally just after Friday prayers when the muslim theologian speaks to them. Then, immediately, for western consumption there is a meek claim from someone in the muslim government there that this ought to stop. But it doesn’t; it gets worse, next Friday coincidentally. And what is this whole Muslim World thing that the press keeps referring to these places as? When do you ever hear NYT or MSNBC refer to The Hindu World, or The Christian World? Never. So what is the Muslim world? And why is it a Muslim World, not a pluralistic world or just part of the world? Its psycholinguistics, that’s why, They are conditioning people to accept that where muslims dominate they, dominate. About that film, you can google any number of countless muslim produced movies that defame Judaism, Christianity, etc., of similar nature. Where are the riots about these? In Bangladesh they wipe out Buddhists and not a peep from the UN or International Herald Tribune, But when the people of Myanmar try to protect their daughters and lands from Bangladesh Rohinga, there is wailing of the media and islamic organizations about how the poor muslims are being discriminated against even as they invade a neighboring country. Yes, defend yourself against oppression and you are the one who is oppressing. If its muslim. Otherwise, not a peep.

The international bankers think they are smart carving up the world playing nationalistic brainwashed Chinese youth and crazed islamic brainwashed youth off against the world to destabilize it. But at some point they will realize these dogs they have set on the world cannot be called back and then what will the rest of us do?
