Postcards From A Furious China

Tyler Durden's picture

Over the past 48 hours we have written much, describing the perfectly expected surge in nationalist fervor and anti-Japanese sentiment, as the Senkaku Islands Snafu hits its boiling point - a Japan whose GDP is now declining in real terms, whose economy has been crippled by years of deflation, whose infrastructure is impaired due to anti-nuclear power sentiment, and one which generally can not afford an all out diplomatic, political and economic conflict with China, and may thus ask itself: why escalate and just who prompted it do so now? A Japan whose economic status is best summarized with the following chart:

Instead we'll let the pictures do the talking.

From brightonatreddit

How are those burning buildings still standing?

If they were like WTC7, they'd have collapsed way before reaching the stage captured in those pictures. Hell, according to the official story, just the smoke from those fires should level a modern 47 story tower, neatly within its own footprint, of course.

Those characteristics pretty well describe the majority of humans everywhere on earth.  The problem isn't with "chinese", the problem is with "mankind", and their inability and unwillingness to identify the root of their problems, no matter where they live, namely:

predators DBA government
predators DBA central banks
predators DBA large corporations

PS:  Also, talk about getting all upset over something rather trivial in the overall scheme of things, while massively more egregious horrors are subjected to everyone around the world on a daily basis.

Did it ever enter the minds of the leaders of Japan or China that losing lives over uninhabited islands make no soense?

It appears there is plenty of outrage on the streets.

Wouldn't it set an example if one of the countries gift wrapped those islands and gave to the other country as a peace offering?

Naw, I am being foolish.  Too much selfishness in the world to make a gesture like that.

Wait till they find out those islands don't belong to either of them.

The next Chinese leader is a war hawk...

And now the Japanese opposition is going crazy.

http://www.japantoday.com/category/politics/view/5-ldp-candidates-in-2nd...

5 LDP candidates, in 2nd debate, push for hard line with China

Five candidates vying to lead Japan’s top opposition party, and possibly become the next prime minister, are calling for Japan to get tough with China in an escalating territorial dispute.

They called for Japan to bolster its control of disputed East China Sea islands, saying they are Japan’s inviolable sovereign territory. They also discussed Japan’s sagging economy and its plan to phase out nuclear power.

Analysts believe the LDP could win big in upcoming parliamentary elections. If it does, whoever wins the party leadership race could become Japan’s next prime minister.

Shit will get real...

Chinese stir nationalism when ever they have internal issues. This is condoned and supported by the government to distract the sheeple.

Plus Chinese tend to be pretty racist in a ''we are superior'' sort of way. Everyone is a ''foreigner'' - when two Chinesee are talking in Chinese in the USA about an American - the American is usually referred to as the foreigner.

TAIPEI, Taiwan: Two Taiwanese coastguard ships on Thursday set sail for waters near a disputed archipelago in the East China Sea, officials said, amid an ongoing territorial row among Taiwan, China and Japan.

The move came after Japan announced on Tuesday that it had completed its planned purchase of the islands, which are known as Senkaku in Japanese and are also claimed by Taiwan and China.

Taipei has recalled its envoy to Japan to protest the Japanese move while Beijing has dispatched two patrol ships to assert its sovereignty following the purchase.

Greek protests enter menacing phase

As Greece's government wrestles with the prospect of more austerity, anger and fear are darkening the streets

For the first time in living memory, military personnel took to the streets alongside police officers, fire brigade officials, teachers and doctors as Greeks vowed to resist further pay and pension cuts that have already led to plummeting living standards.

This week, before a general strike scheduled for 26 September – the 17th this year – judges will walk off the job, shaking one of the central pillars of Greek society.

Nearly three years into the debt crisis, the mood among Greeks has shifted from one of bewilderment and shock, borne of seeing their seemingly robust economy collapse almost overnight, to fury and fear as poverty and panic spread.

Increasingly, ordinary people are speaking of "blood being spilled" and even "civil war". full story:

This is what I find amusing. Not unlike the L.A. or NY riots. The indigenous population is destroying the property of the indigenousness population which purchased it and services them. I suppose it shows directly the sheeple mentality. Act on emotion without thought. Kinda like trading I guess.

the value these islands represent to the political class (govenrment) for stirring up national pride, is far more valuable than it is for it's oil/fishing rights.

there are a shit ton of islands in the south china sea and in the east china sea. theyve always been disputed, and yet, for most , very few people live on these islands because they're worthless and small and isolated.

is senakuku going to be a strategic military base. no. are the jap boats near this island going to get a little harrasment from sinese fishing boats and navy ...sure, but so what. this is not the falklands.

just another shit ass island in the pacific.

the real island is taiwan . and the beauty of all this shit stirring is the the taiwanese nationalists will are being served a silver flaming birthday cake by the chinese reaction to the japanese action. you can bet your asses the real winners here are the taiwanese nationalists.

still, at the end of the day. if world war three happens, i worry about almost every country using tactical nuclear weapons against our air craft carriers. would not be a pretty sight. i think the aegis system is still pretty much totally untested in actual REAL conditions. and its hard to imagine a fucking air craft carrier avoiding a direct hit from a supersonic missile let alone survivng the nearby blast from a 10kt nuke detonated within 500 meter. it's possible. doesn't seam likely.

Damn, it looks like the US is doing the same thing in election season:

1. The Obama administration will announce a trade complaint against China today as President Barack Obama campaigns in Ohio, alleging impermissible subsidies of auto- and auto-parts exports that encourage outsourcing to China from the U.S., an administration official said.

2. The United States and Japan announced a major agreement Monday to deploy a second, advanced missile-defense radar on Japanese territory – an effort specifically designed to counter the North Korean threat but likely to anger China.

The only good thing about QE3 is that it will run commodities (food and energy specifically) up China's ass. Is that the intent? I dunno but it sure will work as long as they peg to the $.

In other news, sooner or later, we in the US are Fukked due to inflation (same food and energy) . dit, dit dit dot dot dit...

China wants to be a superpower, but with that distinction comes great responsibility. Let them send peacekeepers to the middle east. They have enough soldiers to post squads at every crossroad, and nobody wants to fight the Chinese. They could come over here and beat us all up with sticks. Therefore, they could bring peace to the middle east, but the sheer quantities of pork-fried rice would be viewed as an abomination by the locals, regardless of their religious affiliation, so the locals would join forces to expel the peacekeepers.

(see http://img191.imageshack.us/img191/9419/graphjapancpi.gif)

but also that deflation in itself is a bad thing for an economy.

(see 1800's U.S., which experienced 50% deflation through the decade but seemed to do all right overall)

Not sure who started it - but I guess Harper executed it.

I hate how they are now saying OOoo prescient because we`re scared of China taking over.

BullMerde... when they were talking about developing the North it was:

 A) Fear of Denmark making claims of Canadian territories.

`Canada, Denmark continue talks on Hans Island`

http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/north/story/2012/04/12/north-hans-island-d...

 Denmark???

Canada hadn`t maintained its northern presence and Denmark planted its flag on some random-ass island.

It has been US ice breakers the whole time maintaining the passage...

B) Canada was anticipating the North West Passage to open up so they could have a direct route to TRADE with China.

The LAST thing on anybody`s mind was Red China invading.

C) If there were any fears of territorial disputes beyond good ol Denmark - it was over Russia claiming resources under the Arctic

`Russia plants undersea flag in Arctic`

http://www.usatoday.com/news/world/2007-08-03-russia-arctic_N.htm

i guess you should study more history:

DiaoYu Island was annexed from China by Japan during the first Sino-Japanese war in early 19 century.

After WWII, the Allies(including China) made the Potsdam Declaration:

"....

"Japanese sovereignty shall be limited to the islands of Honshu, Hokkaido, Kyushu, Shikoku and such minor islands as we determine." As had been announced in the Cairo Declaration in 1943.

....",

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Potsdam_Declaration

and Cairo Declaration:

"....

All territories Japan had won from China, such as Manchuria (Dongbei), Formosa (Taiwan), and the Pescadores (Penghu), shall be restored to the Republic of China.

...."

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cairo_Declaration

So, in fact Japan has no claim of ownership of Diaoyu Island after WWII.

However, due to the cold war, US release the island to Japan(Treaty of San Francisco), and hence the conflict today...

P.S., China splitted into P.R. of China, and R. of China after civil war in 1949.

One could wonder if the command of consuming locally includes the tear gas used on chinese demonstrators.

US makes some of the best tear gas in the world and cans used on chinese demonstrators probably came from the US.

'American' chinese should ponder the question whether demonstrators want to eat some chinese made tear gas or prefer US made...

Nothing on this scale can happen in China without consent/approval of the authorities.  However those in China play a dangerous game. Rioting can be fun and contagious.
