Presenting Morgan Stanley's Commodity Thermometer

Tyler Durden's picture

Opting to trade commodities over Cede & Co.-owned stock certificates? Hopeful there would at least be a physical recovery if the counterparties collapse in a bilateral netting fireball of linked counterparty exposure (as long as MF Global is not involved... or its exchange... or regulator)? Then here is a simple way to gauge relative commodity strengths and weakness courtesy of Morgan Stanley's "Commodity Thermometer" which shows what products MS is bullish and bearish on, and why.

MS is very late to the party.  Happy to see corn and soybeans in the top ten though.

Kyle Bass is scratching his head?

Why was he so bullish on nickle anyway?  It doesn't have to do with the rumor that an Italian scientist says he can boil water with 10 times the effeciency of nuclear with nickle, is it?

Oh do tell, got a peer-reviewed reference or viable link on this?  That is a tasty bit of information, if true.

He's referring to the e-cat. No reliable/trustworthy info on it is available (yet?).

Yes, I was baiting him.  Nothing in the peer-reviewed literature on e-cat.  But I digress, there are no "experts" who dedicate their lives to such things and everything on the internet and in print is true (especially if it is coming out of Bob Jones or Liberty University)- LOL.  Junk away morons.

silver and copper caught a bid as well.  Oil, steady as she goes.  lots of demand for physical, or anything that can not be printed out of thin air.

"Happy to see corn and soybeans in the top ten though."

Cheering on Monsanto?

Those cattle prices HAVE to be higher to offset that increase in corn pricing.  Of course, if I had cattle (been working on it...) I WOULDN'T be feeding them this shit.  As of now my chickens get non-GMO (rule out nearly ALL soy, and corn).

Isnt this meant to be the sign? As in when the banks cotton on then so does the wider populace. Is the bull run imminent at last?

Nice.  Looks like the days of the silver raids will be back soon.

Guessing it gets hit somewhere right over the $35 line....maybe around $35.40ish.

Commodity markets are totally manipulated.  Some would say rigged.  If you purchase gold or silver, remember to take delivery and don't worry about the price fluctuations.  You are purchasing as a hedge against hyperinflation and the daily ups and downs should be of no concern to you.  If you can't have that attitude, then don't buy them, as it will drive you crazy.

I look forward to the days where banks will pay huge premiums to anyone depositing anything gold or silver.  Homes for Silver swaps?  I'd consider it..

I don't think you understand banks. They collect huge premiums while stealing real assets.

Deposit at your own risk.

I was referring to post fiat currency destruction world.  Banks, in some form or another will reemerge as they always do.  But by then, only gold & silver will be accepted.

Well... maybe at FIRST banks would be honest, but... eventually they'd revert.  One cannot hope to put food outside for one's dog with no fencing and expect that other dogs won't eat YOUR dog's food.  Any fence-ringing of the bakers will ultimately be taken down for the sake of feeding the community of dogs (the rest of the bankers).

It's a profit-driven world in a world of declining resources.  Should be evident from recent history that "profits" require trickery, and that ONLY trickery is capable of "delivering" profits.  Heck, the very nature of "interest," which economies are based on, fails in the face of physical reality...

Buy coins and bury them.

Trade mining stocks for swings.

Avoid futures all together.  If you must trade futures, keep absolute minimum in account and wire money in(then OUT) as required.

Trust no one.

The Syndicate just TOOK the money from MF's customers, overturning a hundred years of legal precedents in a weekend.

Remember, the Syndicate got a judge to rule that MF was NOT a commodity brokerage.

I guess all of the brokerage I paid MF was a gift on my part.

To be fair, I'd say they quit being a brokerage the day that Corzine oozed through the door, and became a full-fledged criminal cartel, so I can see how the judge could see it the way he did.

After all, he may prefer breathing.

Silver imports to stay strong; seen topping 5,000 tonnes February 21, 2012 - 9:58am

India's appetite for silver surged in 2011 despite prices of the white metal touching a record level.

The country's imports rose to 4,800 tonnes in 2011 compared with 2,800 tonnes in 2010, Mr Prithviraj Kothari, President, Bombay Bullion Association, said today.

He expects silver imports to top 5,000 tonnes in 2012 driven mainly by investment demand.
