President Obama: "If You've Got A Business - You Didn't Build That. Somebody Else Made That Happen"

Tyler Durden's picture

Presented without commentary (highlights ours)

There are a lot of wealthy, successful Americans who agree with me -- because they want to give something back.  They know they didn’t -- look, if you’ve been successful, you didn’t get there on your own.  You didn’t get there on your own.  I’m always struck by people who think, well, it must be because I was just so smart.  There are a lot of smart people out there.  It must be because I worked harder than everybody else.  Let me tell you something -- there are a whole bunch of hardworking people out there.  (Applause.)

If you were successful, somebody along the line gave you some help.  There was a great teacher somewhere in your life.  Somebody helped to create this unbelievable American system that we have that allowed you to thrive.  Somebody invested in roads and bridges.  If you’ve got a business -- you didn’t build that.  Somebody else made that happen.  The Internet didn’t get invented on its own.  Government research created the Internet so that all the companies could make money off the Internet.

The point is, is that when we succeed, we succeed because of our individual initiative, but also because we do things together.  There are some things, just like fighting fires, we don’t do on our own.  I mean, imagine if everybody had their own fire service.  That would be a hard way to organize fighting fires.

So we say to ourselves, ever since the founding of this country, you know what, there are some things we do better together.  That’s how we funded the GI Bill.  That’s how we created the middle class.  That’s how we built the Golden Gate Bridge or the Hoover Dam.  That’s how we invented the Internet.  That’s how we sent a man to the moon.  We rise or fall together as one nation and as one people, and that’s the reason I’m running for President -- because I still believe in that idea.  You’re not on your own, we’re in this together.  (Applause.)

a little bit of truth always comes just prior to the presidential election process.. then truth quickly hibernates again for another 3 years

MIT Study debunked

Very interesting, MIT releases a study purporting to show that it may be better to blast people with radiation, rather than move them out of nuclear disaster zones.   We know in Three Mile Island that the gov was scared to death of panicking the sheeple by starting evacuation, instead delaying and subjecting them to large doses of harmful radiation.    A "Husky dose" as the supposed watchdogs watched the sheeple get poisoned.

MIT does not deny that their purpose is to promote nuclear energy.     Ego and Denial of the academic "innocents".    But indeed, just because one is blinded by their scientific desire to push the edge of the envelope and play god like games of turning matter into energy, does not relieve them of the incredible guilt and responsibility of the predictable damage they cause.

2 weeks after the study was published, MIT issued a statement concerning a multi-million dollar grant that they were handed by the US government, in order to take the best and brightest in the nation in order to create a propaganda campaign to get the public to buy the nuke lies, hook line and sinker.

"The nuclear enterprise has long faced difficulties in gaining the broad social acceptance needed for success.  Reliance upon public education effort continues to be the main, and largely unsuccessful, tactic to achieve acceptance.   This project will develop a model for the social acceptability of nuclear projects."

Indeed from a world of de-evolutionary Orwellian madness, our best institutions of higher learning have groveled down to the level of damaging lying pimps.

I'm as appalled at Obama's speech as the next Hayekian, but I will not play this Red Team/Blue Team crap.

The difference between what Bush did to the economy and what Obama is doing now is a question of degree, not of kind. Both men believe in the same, liberty-killing state capitalism. The bankster fattens his bonus packet at the end of the day, no matter who wins.

In the end, under either team, only fascism wins.

THIS is totally awesome. Its about time someone told the truth.  SOAK THE RICH!!! TAX the Walmarts, Apples, etc, til their eyes BLEED!!!! These 'businesses' have been ALLOWED by our illustrious government to run rampant importing Chinese goods and exporting US JOBS.  TAX THEM TO DEATH and distribute the money to the poor.  Only the most brain dead rethuglicans do not understand that doing this would boost THEIR busineses tremendously.

Do you really think Walmart does not get massive tax breaks for moving into an area?? They most certainly do. Exxon/Mobile not paying any taxes on 100's of BILLIONS of profit??? Give me a fn break folks.  Exxon Mobile is NOT a business, its a freaking Utility that should be taken over by the government and drained dry. Literally. If you dont think that BOTH of those businesses are STEALERS of wealth in many ways you are blind. Its time to take it all back folks.

Bottom line with Obama is that he, like so many, cannot be trusted. Therefore he should not have power and nothing he says should be believed. He is a liar and a fraud who will not even tell the truth about his own history much less will he tell us the truth about HIS plans for our future.

I do not think Obama will change even though he has had his chance.

Hey kenyan, whats up with this "we" shit? Do you have a mouse in your pocket or something? Typical COLLECTIVISM. Socailism on display for all to see. Anyone who can't see what this guy is by now {socialist}, is either retarded {yes, I used the dreaded "R" word} or has been in a coma for the past six years. Put another way; "We are entitled to a larger share of your money, because without us {government}, you would have never got to where you are now." God help this country and it's people.

Obama is no fool and his actions are deliberate. He wants to alienate the producers seeking the predictable reaction. He has vilified business from the beginning and not just banks, but all business. He would love it if we all went Gault's Gulch. He is already blaming everything on not just the rich, but the evil rich employers! We outsource, we have lousy insurance, and worst of all, we are setting on trillions of cash that we refuse to piss into the wind as a gesture towards Obama's superior intellect. The small business people are the only thing standing between our liberty and total government domination. As we are eliminated employment will fall to fewer and fewer, larger and larger businesses, that more easily can be dominated by government forces. It is debatable as to whether business dominates government or the other way around but I would suggest it matters very little. One wants power for the sake of power while the other (government, or at least some part) wants power for the ability to fulfill ideology. One thing is for certain in my mind and that is that Romney is the perfect foil for Obama, being a successful businessman. For those who believe there is no practical difference between the candidates, they may well be correct, but we cannot elect Obama for a second term as it will imply approval of everything he has done. While some might rationalize that a close contest would imply no mandate, anyone with more than three brain cells will know that Obama's ego knows no bounds and he will assume an ideological mandate without hesitancy. He already wears the dictatorial mantle, passing out executive orders as congress is just acting too slowly (like any of us want them to do anything except go home). While our system may well be fatally flawed, the very least we can do is throw the liars out. We cannot let this stand.

What the hell do they need to give back other than the employment, new technology, and products that people want at prices they are prepared to pay?

Society exists so that the small number of great thinkers can provide for them things they cannot provide for themselves.

Wealth that is justly earned belongs to those who earned it, and they earned it within the same system that exists for everyone - in other words, they did it - themselves, and nobody owns anothers labor.

THose who plundered and defrauded and lied to come by wealth, should be decapitalized - with a guillotine.

Those who inherit wealth may have good fortune, and I dont deny them the right to keep it all.

However, money should not be able to be lent at interest while holding collateral - either lend at interest with no collateral, and assume the risk  - or invest in equity.  Money lending is immoral, because it is something for nothing and concentrates wealth over generations.

A lot of this is exactly right.  Consider Bill Gates.  He has 80,000 employees most of whom have a college degree, which in the case of computer science actually helps.  How much of those degrees were subsidized by taxpayers?  (All of them) If you know a lot about computer science, as I do, you know most of the basic technology behind Microsoft's products was developed in universities or as the result of miltary programs.  That stuff is just laying around to be exploited without cost.  The rest they stole from Apple who stole it from Xerox, which was developed by ex university researchers.  Get a clue about how the world really works.

Don't get me wrong I have no problem with Bill Gates or Steve Jobs being multi-billioniares, but they should understand that their kind of wealth accrues from channeling other people's creativity and hard work, and those people were raised and educated by society at large.  The point?  Pay your F'ing FAIR SHARE.  You'll still be wealthy beyond imagining; just stop with the hypergreed.

Tax all captial gains as ordinary income, and get rid of ALL deductions for losses. Why the F* should the government subsidize LOSSES?!?!?  Fix these two trojan horses for the wealthy, and make them pay their fair share.  I would pay a lot more taxes because of this, but these are excruciatingly stupid scams.  The stakes right now could not be higher, the little transgressions by the rich we used to ignore are no longer acceptable.

No, they were raised by their parents and partly educated by private schools. You don't need government, just freedom for individuals and free markets without government interruption. Obama wants you to believe you can not possibly live without government, let alone start a business. His idea of America is completely backwards of what it was intended to be.

BTW if you want to know why getting a diploma is so expensive, look no further than government. It used to be cheap before gov got involved. First they break your leg and then they offer you the plaster. Then they tell you you can't live without them.

You know, part of this nauseating time period is due entirely to the type of brain fracking type of language that candidates are expected to use during elections.  The people get pretty much the type of jingoistic bollocks that they think they need to hear to convince themselves that the guy they are going to vote for come November is not as bad a shite brain as the other guy.  If the average American person was unwilling to listen to such tripe, then they would stand up at town hall meetings, spontaneously, and tell the candidates to stop talking bullshit and start talking like a real person.  But, largely American's don't do this.  Not yet.  They mysteriously leave this to the extreme extension of their own anger, the OWS crowd, who the media get no end of joy making fun of and belittling as a bunch of loopy and directionless no-bodies.  And this is how you guys elect your leaders.  By putting up with tripe.

One guy I went to work with carried a gun around with him all the time and as a brit who never saw a gun from one decade to the next I talked to him about it.

Once he confided that the main reason Americans had to keep guns was:

"So we can shoot our politicians when necessary"

I thought he was dangerously lunatic

I realise now I need to check my premise........

This is very dangerous thinking from a man who wields such power. Remember america this thinking is a threat to all the free world not just you.

The government rarely invents anything including the internet, spaceships or weapons. Virtually all that stuff is contracted out to private companies who may have miliitary liasons or counterparts but that is where the expertise comes from. It is those bastard capitalists trying to make money by creating stuff to fulfill a demand.

The government did not invent doctors, their certification standards, medicines, insurance or the MRI machine, either but they are the experts in all that to stupid statists. They are most quailified to run it and bring us the good stuff of the future, right?

It might surprise Obama but private citizens, even rebels created the government not the other way around. The middle class created itself working for people who had great ideas and access to capital. Government can only get out of the way or impede it with taxes, rules and favoritism. That is why the USA has been the greatest...because of fewer impediments not larger government or bigger armies. If it were not so, then the Soviets, Maoists and Cubans would be the greatest. They invented not a fucking useful thing you idiots!

For you thinking types quit giving government credit for anything...or the next time an oil well blows up at 5000 ft the government experts to close it. Hell, they don't even know how to drill it! They learn it from private industry and then pretend to know how to control it, just like medicine, just like banking, just like finance, just like education, just like ...

Obama is a know-nothing-smooth-talking moron but I think his speech makes sense to way too many in modern America. That is why we are on the verge of perishing.

Lol everytime Obama tries to educate the populus about how things work, I just laugh at him. Especially the part where he says, we don't fight fires alone. Of course, a economy is based on cooperation. That's every economy. Even primitive societies do that. Nothing revealing from Obama's speech. As usual Obama talks out of his ass. He thinks if we work together to try to achieve some ends, whatever that is, will make the country great. It's individuals with their own individual ambitions that cooperate with others through voluntary trade is what makes a economy wealthier. This ain't Nazi Germany, where we must work together to achieve some an end. The whole country didn't ban together to create the iPod, or whatever nonsense he seems to imply. The more this president opens his mouth, the more ignorant he sounds. Typical socialist progressive poorly understood idea of how things work propaganda.
