Eric Holder To Be Held In Contempt Of Congress?

Tyler Durden's picture

While normally we stay away from outright political commentary especially of the kind that has no direct relation to finance or the economy, the fact is that if the US had a functioning, uncompromised, uncorrupt, and effective Justice Department, much of what we see every day on Wall Street would be vastly different since if crime did indeed have punishment, then a vast portion of the questionable behavior that is exhibited by financiers would have been eliminated long ago. Which is why we find the news just released from The Hill that "Rep. Darrell Issa (R-Calif.) has circulated a draft copy of a resolution that would hold Attorney General Eric Holder in contempt of Congress" particularly relevant. For it is none other than Holder's complete lack of involvement and intervention to outright daily crimes conducted in the financial world that is as much a reason for the deplorable economic state of this country and the world, as are all those other factor extensively discussed in books and documentaries each and every day.

From The Hill:

The 44-page measure was sent to members of the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee on Thursday in an attempt to shore up support for what would be the toughest action taken by Issa as chairman of the powerful panel.

Issa has been investigating the botched gun tracking operation Fast and Furious for more than a year and has repeatedly expressed his frustration at the Department of Justice’s lack of cooperation.

Issa has issued two subpoenas to obtain documents from DOJ, and is arguing that the agency’s glacial pace in returning the requested information provides cause for holding Holder in contempt of Congress.

“The Justice Department’s failure to respond appropriately to the allegations of whistleblowers and to cooperate with Congressional oversight has crossed the line of appropriate conduct for a government agency,” reads a 17-page memo attached to the draft copy of the resolution on contempt circulated to members.

“Congress now faces a moment of decision between exerting its full authority to compel an agency refusing to cooperate with congressional oversight or accepting a dangerous expansion of Executive Branch authority and unilateral action allowing agencies to set their own terms for cooperating with congressional oversight.”

While we acknowledge that Issa has his own set of dirty laundry to go along, and likely influenced this proposal, we would to add: "about time" - because the corruption in America starts at the very top, in this case with the very man who is supposed to be isolated from the corruption prevalent everywhere else. We applaud the move (if consummated), as it will eliminate one of the people who has repeatedly made a mockery of not only the democratic process, but of the very institution of Justice he is supposed to be overseeing.

The only question is: who is this saint who would replace Holder, that would be immune to Wall Street's "lobbying efforts" to leave the world's richest alone, in their pursuit of redistributing ever more wealth...

Holder does this because the people in Congress aren't "/his/ people", to borrow his own phrase. He ignores his AG status to protect all Americans. He only protects and responds to HIS people.

Bring it on...  start holding people accountable to their positions, the Constitution, the laws of the land, and "We, the People".

Ever the patriot, I am  :-)

EH and DOJ is a great place to start. Of course, this will feed right into the progressive agenda of demonizing any opponents of this admin as being racist, so there will be tons more race cards played and stupid silly shit about racist this, and racist that that this will be supposed justification of.

At the end of the day I don't see this going anywhere, tho.  If BO doesn't want it to occur, it won't.  If he has to sign another executive order, he will, no problem since this is his country and nothing is supposed to be done that isn't going to boost his ratings or isn't part of his plan.  hmmm...

Could be just another "theatre of the absurd" to be used as a distraction.  If, however, it gains traction, Obama might have a serious re-election problem.   Of course the other issue facing Obama, that of the fraudulent BC and Selective Service card, could still arise.  All it would take is just one State Court to rule he is ineligible for the ballots.  We could have an Obama resignation (for health or other spurious reasons) to enable the next chosen puppet.

Doubt that this is theater. I've watched the hearings on C-SPAN. Grassley is behind the Fast & Furious investigation. He could not get this brought up in the Senate because of the Dems being in control, so he went to Issa on the House side. Grassley has a good staff (IMO) and they tend to get things right.

Let's not forget that Eric Holder hails from Covington & Burling white shoe law firm.  Specialty?  White collar criminal defense. These shysters at C&B also gave the green light to the TBTF bankster-plotted MERS scheme to cloud title to 62 million properties nationwide.  Of course, I can't abide arsonist and car thief Issa; but Issa's crimes are the less than Holder's.  I guess it takes a criminal to be in CONgress or to be an appointed "regulator".

That's why they call it the "Just Us" Department.

Holder is a Black Racist, and he protects the other Black Racists: the so-called Rev. Al who owes $2.6-million in unforwarded employee withholding taxes (you try that and see how long it takes you to go to jail), the so-called Rev. Wright, who runs his church as the Black Chicago political machine operating as a 501.c3, the New Black Panthers, who put out a $10,000 reward to murder George Zimmerman (think some whites could do that and not be in jail before they could cross the street?) . . . and he protects the Wall Street Mafia operatives in the government and associated NGOs, such as Timmy the Tax Evader.

In addition, Holder is in charge of protecting the White Black president in addition to the aforementioned Black Racist allies. In particular, he is in charge of making sure no one ever gets too deep into Barry's background, which we see shredding apart daily as the relentless investigations of who he is, and where he came from continue to play out. Sheriff Joe has a target painted on his forehead, and it's only a matter of time until he dies "unexpectedly," just like others that knew too much about Barry.

The only reason I've come up with to vote for Romney is that maybe he will get the Black Racists out of the Just Us Department. Beyond that, he is just another bought and sold stooge for GS and the Wall Street Mafia. Nothing will change in the Western Financial World's ponzi-machine.

You don't have to read ZH's savvy articles, and those who post some really brilliant stuff, too long before, if you are honest with yourself, you realize that the Financial World is beyond the comprehension of any but the most intimate insiders, and the truth is they probably don't understand all the mechanations of the alphabet soup and jargon-encrusted terminology they spout.

If you can't expect what are even considered to be "very sophisticated" market participants to fully appreciate the game, expecting the electorate to rise up and "throw the bums out" is entirely a fantasy (Note to Ron Paul supporters: That's why you aren't getting the nomination - you are way over voters' heads.).

And of course, the concentrated power of corporate mass media means nothing is going to come from that segment of society.

Ultimately, the only way things will permanently change is with the Clash of Civilizations between the Western, the Islamic, and the Oriental civilizations seeing which of the three will become The One. (I'm betting on the Oriental.) It will take a wholesale sweeping away of the institutions that perpetuate the corruption because there are too many people sucking at the teat of these institutions to reform them.

I have worked in various agencies of the federal goveernment as a contractor for about 20 years now.

When I worked at the DoJ, I was constantly astonished at the nepotism, favoritism, arrogance and complete contempt expressed for the American people. Hell, the IRS staff was more honest and had more respect for the American people and actually talked about serving the American people.

I swore I would never work at DoJ again and have not.

Here's the fundamental source of most of America's problems..

It's the principals stupid.

Stop caring about the names. Virtually ALL the politicians are by nature are scum bags. Why? How? Go look in the f'ing mirror and start voting PRINCIPAL and LAW not "fairness" and "feelings".

After the US body politic fully embraced feminist ideals during the 1980s, remember all that PC stuff, is it Any wonder why society is so filled with "drama" and that markets and people are moved by politicians and banksters through manipulation of emotions?

Is it any wonder virtually ALL the debt that will crush America comes from two fundamental ideals: the nanny state "entitlements" and a f'd demographic situation. BOTH are a DIRECT embrace of the two foundational feminist ideals of "takng care of everyone" and abortion. BOTH 100% funded upon emotional ideals.

Likewise with the mentality that created the financial crisis. All the products and policies that created the crisi were sold on feminist ideal based emotions.

I don't give a rats @ss about Issa or Holder.

Justice delayed is justice denied. Contempt his @ss.

PS: Feminist ideals are NOT the same thing as women. So all you feminist and feeling based fools can just forget about trying to claim my comments are misogynist.
