Ron Paul "Faces The Nation" On September 11 And Other Key Topics

Tyler Durden's picture

Rep. Ron Paul, who is statistically tied in first in the Iowa polls among the 2012 GOP presidential candidates, spoke with Bob Schieffer on how America's flawed policies contributed to 9/11, his stance on dealing with Iran, and the dismantling of key government institutions. Must watch, as unlike the other GOP candidates, Paul never peppers the audience (pardon the pun) with banal sound bites, moronic meanderings and pandering platitudes.

In the early 1950's, the UK and US helped topple a democratic Iran.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1953_Iranian_coup_d%27%C3%A9tat

Let us not forget that in the early 1980's, the Iraqis were the "good guys" fighting Iran, we even supplied weapons, money, and other resources to Iraq.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States_support_for_Iraq_during_the_I...

Also in the early 1980's, the Mujaheddin "freedom fighters" were given the same to fight the "evil empire" of the Soviet Union.

http://terrorism.about.com/od/warinafghanistan/ss/AfghanistanWar_3.htm

And then, there was Vietnam

http://www.historyinperspective.org/node/30

DEAR MR. PRESIDENT:

Our VIETNAM people, as early as 1941, stood by the Allies' side and fought against the Japanese and their associates, the French colonialists.

From 1941 to 1945 we fought bitterly, sustained by the patriotism, of our fellow-countrymen and by the promises made by the Allies at YALTA, SAN FRANCISCO and POTSDAM.

When the Japanese were defeated in August 1945, the whole Vietnam territory was united under a Provisional Republican Government, which immediately set out to work. In five months, peace and order were restored, a democratic republic was established on legal bases, and adequate help was given to the Allies in the carrying out of their disarmament mission.

But the French Colonialists, who betrayed in wartime both the Allies and the Vietnamese, have come back, and are waging on us a murderous and pitiless war in order reestablish their domination. Their invasion has extended to South Vietnam and is menacing us in North Vietnam. It would take volumes to give even an abbreviated report of the crisis and assassinations they are committing everyday in this fighting area.

This aggression is contrary to all principles of international law and the pledge made by the Allies during World War II. It is a challenge to the noble attitude shown before, during, and after the war by the United States Government and People. It violently contrasts with the firm stand you have taken in your twelve point declaration, and with the idealistic loftiness and generosity expressed by your delegates to the United Nations Assembly, MM. BYRNES, STETTINIUS, AND J.F. DULLES.

The French aggression on a peace-loving people is a direct menace to world security. It implies the complicity, or at least the connivance of the Great Democracies. The United Nations ought to keep their words. They ought to interfere to stop this unjust war, and to show that they mean to carry out in peacetime the principles for which they fought in wartime.

Our Vietnamese people, after so many years of spoliation and devastation, is just beginning its building-up work. It needs security and freedom, first to achieve internal prosperity and welfare, and later to bring its small contribution to world-reconstruction.

These security and freedom can only be guaranteed by our independence from any colonial power, and our free cooperation with all other powers. It is with this firm conviction that we request of the United Sates as guardians and champions of World Justice to take a decisive step in support of our independence.

What we ask has been graciously granted to the Philippines. Like the Philippines our goal is full independence and full cooperation with the UNITED STATES. We will do our best to make this independence and cooperation profitable to the whole world.

I am Dear Mr. PRESIDENT,

Respectfully Yours,

(Signed) Ho Chi Minh

OBVIOUSLY, it was NEVER POLICY that led to the US to be bitten in the butt. <sarc>

Let's ask Romney why he thinks it's ok for State employee's to buy their State issued harddrives, and do what ever they wan't with them by erasing the State owned data.

Now Romney has Turmoil !  Story breaking and blowing up as we speak !

On Saturday, Mitt Romney again defended his aides' decision to purchase their government-issued hard drives and erase official emails as Romney finished out his run as governor of Massachusetts in 2006.

He is being taken more seriously folks....

“Ron Paul is for real in Iowa. Seriously.” (Washington Post)

“Niche Voters Giving Paul Momentum in Iowa Polls” (New York Times)

“Ron Paul’s 19 percent in Iowa may indicate a path to the nomination” (Daily Caller)

“GOP outsider Ron Paul gaining traction in Iowa” (Associated Press)

“Ron Paul And Libertarians Can't Be Discounted” (Forbes)

A Bloomberg News poll this past week shows a four-way scrum for the lead in Iowa, with Paul in second place. (Cain gets 20 percent, Paul 19 percent, Mitt Romney 18 percent, and Newt Gingrich 17 percent among likely caucus goers.)

Another article for Ron Paul:

‘This Week’ panel: Watch out for Ron Paul in Iowa

"“The other thing I think Christiane to watch is Ron Paul. Ron Paul is right now, he’s second in Iowa,” Dowd said. “He’s second in New Hampshire. And of the people in top tier, he has the most passion behind his candidacy. I would not be surprised at all seven weeks from now that Ron Paul wins the Iowa caucuses and goes into New Hampshire, disrupts this field even more.”"

I knew Bob Scheiffer was an idiot, but I never realized just how big of one he was until now.

That was proven by how completely stupid he looked in trying to marginalize Paul, framing questions to characterize him as some lunatic fringe candidate, without any attempt to give him a fair hearing.

The sad part for Schieffer and his masters is that more and more people are waking up to the reality of a corrupted system where Wall St owns Washington, while the "mainstream" media attempts to control the masses and maintain the status quo, and Schieffer's lame attempt at ambushing Paul came across as exactly that.

Anyone with half a brain, whose distrust of Wall St., Washington and the media has grown over the past several years witnessing unending corruption, greed and lawlessness and who saw this interview will surely look at Paul more seriously, while dismissing Schieffer as a status quo hitman.

The people are waking up to the babylonian BS that lame stream media spews out like a discharge of the stinking dead fish slime scum bucket guts and slop that it is. The next step is to, OCCUPY the main stream media NOW!!!

And yes, did you all notice the grrrrrr in Ron Paul's answers. He ate his Wheaties this morning and did not take that shit from the babble fish schaffre bob. He is aggressively rising up against this tyranny and showing the people how to do it. If we actually get to an election(doubtful) without the sotero/obami lackey cia-mO-sad crew pulling off another 9/11 False Flag Type Event done for those who profit from war and heroin, and we actually elect Ron Paul, there could actually be a chance of saving america and the free world. He won't win the mainstream vote unless he creates an alternative plan for the DOE, DOI, DOD, etc...He can't just say; we'll close down all these govt agencies.  Something will need to take its place.  Perhaps consolidation.  Lets face it, if everyone in America was left to do as they please, with no regulation, it would be absolute anarchy.  The idea of limited govt worked in 1776 because people held a higher moral standard than today.  Americans of today seem to be only in it for themselves, so you'd eventually face a situation where the one with the most guns and muscle wins.  Kind of like 1930 gansters style environment and not a healthy society.  Also, closing down every US military base located in foreign countries would be a mistake.  We need at least some presence beyond US borders or we'll be left vulnerable.

It is not the government's job to legislate morals.  It is an impossibility as the abortion issue illustrates.  Do you actually believe there is LESS corruption now?  How about the U.S. providing arms to the Mexican drug cartels...while they simultaneously try to stop them?  Why is there MORE heroin production in Afghanistan now that the U.S. and CIA are controlling it?

*edit  -  I wanted to add that the government also has not indicted ONE PERSON for the banks robbing hundreds of billions of dollars...

Ron Paul doesn't say to close every base the point is that maintaining all of them is unsustainable.  Why are US taxpayers paying for the defense of Germany, Japan, etc. still?

Get your head out of the sand!

We are protecting Japan, Germany, etc. Protecting them from foreign and economic policies that are to the disadvantage of London. That's, by the way, who Paul was actually talking about when he talked about the "policymakers" behind 9/11.

American policy is not being run for the benefit of America and American ideals. That's what the Revolution and the Civil War were about. We can not be free until we again throw off, once again, the yolk of the Brutal, Briutish (but, Oh so sophisticated,) British Empire.

FDR's long term goal was to dismantle the British Empire and, over time, bring the world up to the American standard of living. The minute he died Truman reversed his policy. Just look at the events in South East Asia, India, Korea, etc immediately after the war. Ho Cho Minh of Vietnam was an America ally and had George Washington as his hero. We let the bastard of Empire Churchill come to America to announce that Russia was our enemy, and we must fight over Europe ("an iron curtain has descended..."). Averell Harriman (Skull and Bones; Brown Brothers Harriman; Pilgrim Society), Ambassador to Moscow, who on the day he heard of Roosevelt's death drafted a long telegram to immediately switch policy into an anti-Russian mode.

Ron Paul is truly a great man.  He is the only candidate that speaks the truth and understands the principles that USA was founded upon.

This sort of interview is just the beginning of putting Ron Paul on the defensive and making it uncomfortable for the "average person" to support him.  They did exactly the same thing to Ross Perot when he became a viable candidate. Until you come up with an alternative main-stream media that is not controlled by organized crime th Ron Pauls of the world do not stand a chance.

Paul would be an extremely weak President and would probably go down in history as another Neville Chamberlain.  Chamberlain in 1939 came back glowing from a meeting with Hitler and said there would be "peace in our time."   He has become the father of appeasement.

Paul has said on SEVERAL occasions that Iran was no threat -- despite their numerous threats to annilate both the US and Israel, and despite the fact that they are rapidly developing nuke capability.  Hitler made threats against the Jews long before he had the power to carry it out.

If he's now backtracking on his USA at fault for 9/11 that's fine, but now what he initially said.

Libertarian777's picture

not sure if you're just a troll, but gotta jump in here.

While I'm-a-dinner-jacket may be a bit on the extreme side, one has to recall that it was the USA that installed a dictator (the Shah), who oppressed his people. They rose up against him and ended up with an islamic state. So, maybe if the US didn't get involved in Iran's internal affairs 50 years ago we wouldn't be dealing with them today. The US always wants to install 'democracy' yet it prefers a US friendly dictator. Please note, Hamas WAS ELECTED, but the US won't recognise them.

Secondly, apparenlty Ahmadenijad said that the map should be rewritten. The MSM interpreted it as him saying israel should be 'wiped off the map'. He was saying the maps were drawn up by western powers and needs to be 'wiped out'. This is similar to the argument the palestinians (and Obama) have about the pre-1967 borders in Gaza and the West Bank. Not saying I support him, but just showing how things get twisted.

Thirdly, Iraq 'clearly' had WMD. Where are they? Al Qaeda didn't exist in Iraq till the invasion. Who supplied Saddam with weapons?

Fourthly, for all the warmongering over Iran and its development of the bomb, might I remind you NORTH KOREA HAS THE BOMB. It's detonated it TWICE. It's shelled a civilian South Korean town and sunk a South Korean warship. Why are you not advocatin war with North Korea since they ALREADY HAVE THE BOMB? I'm also assuming you are active military and would sign up to be 'first across the border'.

Fifthly, sanctions against Iran, believe it or not, does not hurt Khomeni or Ahmadenijad. It hurts the average Iranian trying to make a living. If he can't get medicine, food, clothing, fuel to clothe, and feed his family, he will directly associate US imposed sanctions for his family's hardship. Good luck when you invade Iran, cos that guy will take up arms against you.

6th. Iran sees the US invade Iraq, a former ally. Iran sees the US bomb Pakistan and Yemen, also 'our allies'. Iran sees the US building hundreds of bases and putting multiple carrier battle groups in the Gulf. the US continually threatens war. Turn the tables around. If the US had no nuclear weapon, and China had ships off our coast, imposed sanctions and threatened us with war... what the fuck would we do. We'd develop the fucking hydrogen-bomb ASAP.

7th. Iran would not use its nuclear weapon. North Korea hasn't. Why? because the retaliation by Israel and the US would wipe Iran off the map (and not in the 'reset the borders' kind of way).

8th. Why don't we fund US defense? bring all the troops home and put more funds into our Aegis cruisers and ballistic missile defenses. Then see if Iran ever wants to lob a missile here. Instead we spread our military resources out very very thinly over 130 countries. How the fuck does having troops in Australia protect the US BORDERS?

Iran can say that all they want, but they have no means of carrying out any attack on the U.S.  The worst they could harm us is by causing regional strife and attacking oil tankers.  Which, by the way, is exactly what they WILL do if we attack them.

Using logical fallacies as the basis to our foreign policy is failure.

Right, never mind that Hitler came to power because the Bankers, especially France and the UK, wanted reperations for WWI so they bankrupted Germany and drove their whole population into utter destitution.  It was a financial war first and the laypeople are the ones that paid in blood.

France and UK?  WHO in France and the UK?

WHO ended up owning that entire country after the financial collapse?  It wasn't germans.

Read history; understand.  Actions have consequences, something that is lost on the tribe.  They have a 4000 year history of consequences but the narrative is that they are just the ultimate downtrodden victim.  Their own fucking religious texts instead say that they are the chosen people of God, yet the outward face is to engender SYMPATHY and sell a line that they are just innocent victims of continuous oppression?  Germans starved so that they could have their pound of flesh in usury.

Has nobody read the goddamned old testament?  Genocide, war, murder, pillaging...in the name of God.  They only came into possession of this holy land by invasion, genocide, and war.

Hitler came to power because he promised to return Germany to the German people.

Yeah, I've always thought of Deuteronomy as "The Book of Killing".  One massacre after the other.  That Moses was a bloodthirsty bastard.

Compare that to the single massacre of jews in the Koran.  Which they arguably well and truly brought on themselves.  Funny, that's the one we keep hearing about though, whenever the subject of religion and killing comes up.  As it does.

Come to think of it, I don't believe that (Prophet-led) massacre made it into the Koran.  It's otherwise documented.  Correct me if I'm wrong.

One of the big dam reasons a lot of the folk don't get is why the military supports him so throughly.

Its because the military signs up to defend and support the constitution and he is the only fucking candidate over the years who leads by example.

Something Military/veterans firmly believe in.

And the god-am pundits wonder how did he earn so much on his Veterans day contributions.

You all do realize that R.P. is the only candidate the military would support if their ever was a civil war or a Coup ( just saying, off in fantasy land here) Or even major civil unrest( Insert dramatic chaotic event here_____)

LivermoreJim and other "all options on the table" / "turn Iran into a parking lot" / "hate us cuz we're free" types pay attention

The "martyr state" myth is based upon two flawed assumptions. First, that the Islamic Republic of Iran has been uniquely willing to endure the deaths of its own citizens in order to achieve its policy goals. Second, that the Iranian Shiite regime's End Times theology actually induces it to trigger a conflagration.

As a New Zealander (and therefore as a proxy for a 'foreigner', might I express my concern (although not my surprise) at the exasperation and latent hostility displayed by the interviewer.   My concern stems from it underscoring not only that it is a representative view for many Americans, but also that the media are so strongly partisan (regardless of which way it is).  Man, shouldn't the interviewer be (at least on screen and from a professional angle) sitting on the fence and asking objective questions ?

Paul's ideas are certainly radical and that, in itself, seems to be ample reason for the interviewer, and mainstream America, to automatically decide, that the ideas have no merit whatsoever.   I suppose the world is still flat too ?

Do you live in NZ now?  Man that place is amazing!  I drove from Auckland to Queenstown (obviously took a ferry in between - btw, don't rent a car in Auckland, take it over the ferry, and drop it off at Queenstown - had to pay an $1100 fine), stoppped at all sorts of places in between.

The big event in the news when I was there was about the proposal to add folic acid to bread.  Must be nice to not have a military-industrial complex and all of that sort of bullshit.  And the natural beauty, god damn, no wonder all of the people are so nice.

The television/print (main stream, corporate) media is owned and controlled by the same small set of people (council on foreign relations and their subsidiary the American Press Association).  They've stopped pretending otherwise of late, especially when it comes to Ron Paul.  They really ARE that biased.

The only free press in America is found on the internet, but not for much longer.  The internet is the greatest threat to the absolute power of the oligarchy and will be destroyed one way or another.  Right now they are content to merely use it to pin point dissidents via surveillance, data mining, and profiling.  But their patience only goes so far.  Technical solutions are in the works to rebuild the internet into something less open, less free, and more conducive to the powers that be controlling the current events and historical narrative.

Who do you think holds and contols most of the US's wealth? Do you think the likes of JPM, GS and their crony counterparts will stand by through reform and regulation? The major banks have a large stake in the FED. If the FED is dismantled, they'll set up somewhere else........in a "new world" just as history has shown.

As the balance of power was transfered from England to the US, the baton must again be handed over to the next neo anglo colony.....somewhere south of China perhaps.....

Pump the brakes, altruists. RP has no chance of winning the Republican primary for the simple fact that he can't debate. Every response he gives somehow involves the gold standard, foreign policy, and ending the Fed, rarely without a breath in between. Not that these aren't important things, but people can't relate to that. Burn me all you want, but Gengrich & Romney will beat out RP.

Who is this douchebag from Face the Nation?  What a slanted interview, if you can even call it that.  I'm surprised Ron Paul agreed to go on the air with this jack ass that did nothing during the interview but try to solicit the responses he wanted, namely:

"Yes, America brought 9/11 on itself.  Fuck America."

"Yes, we should kowtow to Iran and let them get nukes and nuke Israel and New York."

This is what passes for the main stream media these days?  Jesus CHRIST I didn't know it had gotten so bad.  Who bothers watching this garbage?  I wish you people wouldn't upload this shit to youtube because the internet is better off without the diseased lies of the main stream media.
