Russia Retaliates Against US: Puts Radar Station On Combat Alert, Prepares To Take Out European Missile Defense Systems

Tyler Durden's picture

Earlier today, we presented the latest developments in the escalating possibility of an imminent air (and potentially land) campaign targeting Syria by the "western world", a move that would infuriate not only Iran, but also Russia and China, both of which have made it clear they would not sit idly by and let such an "aggression" stand. Now it is Russia's turn to retaliate. Cutting straight to the chase - in a nationally televized appearance by Russian president Dmitry Medvedev: in response to what the Russian believes is an active incursion and a potential act of eventual aggression on behalf of NATO countries in Eastern Europe (and hence the US), he he said the following (7 minutes in): "First, I am instructing the Defense Ministry to immediately put the missile attack early warning radar station in Kaliningrad on combat alert. Second, protective cover of Russia's strategic nuclear weapons, will be reinforced as a priority measure under the programme to develop out air and space defenses. Third, the new strategic ballistic missiles commissioned by the Strategic Missile Forces and the Navy will be equipped with advanced missile defense penetration systems and new highly-effective warheads. Fourth, I have instructed the Armed Forces to draw up measures for disabling missile defense system data and guidance systems if need be... Fifth, if the above measures prove insufficient, the Russian Federation will deploy modern offensive weapon systems in the west and south of the country, ensuring our ability to take out any part of the US missile defense system, in Europe. One step in this process will be to deploy Iskander missiles in Kaliningrad Region. Other measures to counter the European missile defense system will be drawn up and implemented as necessary. Furthermore, if the situation continues to develop not in Russia's favor we reserve the right to discontinue further disarmament and arms control measures. Besides, given the intrinsic link between strategic offensive and defensive arms, conditions for our withdrawal from the New START Treaty could also arise." That said, he concludes that Russia is still open to dialog. However, if Obama merely intends to bomb any nation at will, we are very much concerned that everything Medvedev has just threatened will be enacted. And exponentially more so when Putin comes back in charge. One thing is certain - Russia is not North Korea, and taking this speech for more empty jawboning is probably not the wisest option.

Medvedev sounds scared and concerned he can't penetrate NATO'S defence shield in Europe.

If the US wasn't so in the hole financially I'd say let's have at it Medvedev.

In the meantime, I think it's not in the US's interest to be fighting any wars when we are broke unless it's on American soil.

Don't hang around too many people.  Large numbers of people are easy targets. And in a post-ikea magazine life devoid of big-pharma stabilizers, many of them are likely to be volatile.

People are just plain insane as hell.  Find a place that's difficult to get to--out of the way, very very far away from any type of road, or city, or town.

I guess Medvedev/Putin clan is REALLY worried about the upcoming elections. So, what do you do?

1) You bring back from the heap of history an old enemy.

2) You take a heroic stand agaisnt the "enemy", become the hero in the eyes of local nationalists, alcoholics, and idiots - basically 80% of the country

3) Keep reminding the people that only Medvedev and Putin can protect them from that imperialist Obama and the NATO countries (mind you that NATO ran out of ammo bombing Lybia...  how can they possibly fight Russia?)

Basically, the same old playbook, as described in George Orwell's "1984", Communist Party manuals, and Karl Rove's memos.

P.S.  If Ben Bernanke didn't "reflate" commodities in 2008/2009, and oil (brent) didn't rally from below $40 to $110 and higher,  there would've been no russia-as-economic-entity by now.  they can't survive if oil is below $60.  they would have defaulted long ago if the Bernank didn't make them the bigest favor ever.

A number of commenters seem to discount the coupling of the Syrian no-fly-zone with an Iranian offensive.  And yet last year, the G8 made it clear that they believed Israel might attack Iran before it had the capacity to produce a nuclear weapon. The Syrian situation looks increasingly intertwined with Iran and Israel's ultimatum. All of the moves, including Russia's posturing appear related to various degrees.

This whole thing is about natural resources in the Middle East. It's not that we have a beef with Russia (or likewise) but both countries want to command the oil (primarily) though the multi-trillion dollar natural resources in Afghanistan are equally as important.

With modern medicine able to defeat most illnesses and the inability to create global war (due to the nuclear capabilities of many countries) The population is set to grow exponentially and thus natural resources are that much more valuable. Both countries (US/Russia) and even China realize this which is why we are seeing this kind of activity regarding the Middle East.

Did Obama think he could get that close to what is considered Russian waters and spheres of influence and not expect any sort of backalsh? This action by Medvedev is probably meant to place pressure on E. European nations to prevent them from participating in the overthrow of the Syrian Government led by NATO forces.Iksander Missles have a range that could easily target Warsaw. Only fitting that the USS George H. W. Bush try to start a New World Order. I'd have money on the idea that Russian Spetznaz is on alert status should the need for Russian intervention in Syria arise. Wonder what China will do about this, probably decide to kick off the end of the Ponzi scheme and dump US treasuries onto the market as retaliation.

One thing of note here. This applies to recent, current and future US-Russia relations. When the USSR came to an end, the USSR had an agreement that NATO would never encroach into former Soviet Bloc nations. This agreement has been breached, and the Russians are pissed off. It is no wonder that they take measures such as these when the US is violating the agreement it signed onto. I can't blame the Russians.

Russia intervened against Austria Hungary's retaliation in the assassination of Franz Ferdinand in the interest of Pan-Slavism. Not sure of the historic ties between Russia and Syria but given that the Russia sees the Black Sea as theirs and having a pro US and NATO regime in the region so close to their "pond" in an attempt to isolate Russia further can only encourage Russian involvement.

Fuck Medvedev. We should nuke Russia BEFORE we fuck with Syria.

We should take out Iran first, those assholes have never been repaid for taking US hostages when the coward Jimmy Carter was president. We should absolutely nuke Pakistan for giving Bin Laden sanctuary for the past five years.

The optimum sequence would be Iran first, then Russia, Pakistan, Syria, Afghanistan, and Yemen. Then we should nuke the Philippines and Malaysia for fomenting terrorism.

That little fucking smurf Kim Jong (mentally ) Ill should absolutely be provided gratis a massive dose of weapons-grade  plutonium, compliments of a fine US nuclear warhead.

And since Israel is ALWAYS at the center of Middle East turmoil, we may as well pave over that shit-eating country as long as we are taking care of long overdue business in the Middle East.

And of course China would necessarily have to be reduced to smoldering radioactive rubble also, so solly.

Hey Russia, you haven’t been attacked since 1941 and a large part of that is because the US stabilized Europe.   When you were attacked in 1941 it was by your ally with whom you jointly attacked Poland.  You are nowhere as powerful as you think you are other than nukes.   Your population is dramatically declining, their life expectancy is declining and your wealthy all seem to be somewhere else.   Is the US in decline?  Certainly but that is as much by the rise of the rest of the world as any actual decline.

"You are nowhere as powerful as you think you are other than nukes. "

But they sure kicked the crap out of all the Izzies, U.S. mercs and Georgians in South Ossetia! That war was over as soon as the Russian airborne troops landed and long before the tanks arrived the next day. Any man who thinks we could beat Russia in a conventional land war in her own back yard is a fool. This isn't 1995!!

Hell, in an emergency the U.S. military has to call up guardsmen to do the heavy lifting since the relatively small number of special forces, marines and navy seals are spread out all over the world doing God knows what.

Sad to say most of the 1.7 mil in uniform are nothing but a modern day jobs program. BTW, I volunteered back in 1969! It was the same back then, and it is worse now!

Yes, our Army is bad. I volunteered back in 72. But the other Armies are worse. That South Ossetia thing isn't worth talking about, it's like saying Waco showed how strong our Army is.

We have a good Army compared to the other Armies.

The Russians were tough back in 1940. But they had no choice. It was be tough or die. I was a long time in the US Infantry. We have some bad assed Americans of all racial and ethnic groups there. I am proud of our Infantry, both in the Army and the Marines. They are the envy of the world. No formal Army in the world has as much real world combat experience as the US. The Russians left Afghanistan and never recovered. Keep that in mind. Our Army is still intact.

It's funny that since the 'western world' sees Iran getting a nuke as a destabilizing force, and wants to make war on the flimsiest 'iraq mobile wmd vehicle' evidence force fed to the world again (so soon), it is then claimed action is justified to make sure Iran doesn't even come close to acquiring nuclear weapons...meanwhile 'apparently if you believe the tech' the missile shield is not viewed as equally as destabilizing.  As if it were to work it would take the non-west's nukes out of the equation and not expect an equally viewed concern from the other side as a threat to be virtually de-nuked.  Yet somehow our idiots in gov't and the media are mostly clueless on this subject and haven't touched it for a long time.

Another funny thing is that Russia has proposed an earth shield, if you believe its eventual tech, which would shield the world from nuclear missiles, and double as a defense against incoming objects (not necessarily huge asteroids, but say like wayward satellites).

But it isn't about safety, as it is power, which of course is what in the west? Hint: Not gov'ts.

Obama is just another lackey stupid and crazy enough to ignore this obvious warning.  The dumbass might be too crazy to even figure out he starts WWIII before he does it.

The idiots here in the U.S. claiming Obama is weak on neocon ideology, know nothing, as he's been more neocon than a Cheney/Bush lovechild on steroids.  Obama has committed more war crimes than even Bush, in the name of 'protecting America'.

Missile shield, Iran, Syria...all the while waging war from Africa to Pakistan.  What's not to be concerned about?

You have NerObama slapping China's face about so many things, all bankster idiocy.  South China seas and the 'shipping lanes', even though no dispute is about 'shipping lanes'.  You have China wisely protecting itself like we used to from Washington through Carter, but now instead of protecting ourself, we must say China must do this or that or else it's cheating and manipulating and there is nothing we can do?

The banksters and oligarchy are pushing hard for WWIII and very few care to see it.  If they implode, and the east only 75 percent implodes, well then, the Queen won't be Queen of much then, will she!

Just like WWI and WWII, WWIII would be a monetarist game, needless in every sense of the word, but launched to prevent another region from becoming equal let alone ahead.

The worst part about this all? Is that the more tense things get, the easier it gets to actually launch the war in an underhanded manner as a third party.

Think of it like the U.S. Civil War at Fort Sumter.  Who fired the first shot North or South? Some people say it was neither.  There was a great colonial power that wished for it to start *cough* Britain *cough*, that aided in its starting up in every conceivable way before the war, and some say, THEY fired the first shot from one of their ships off our coast.  Once the shooting begins, it's awfully hard to stop it.

Another way to look at it, is for someone to throw a firecracker in between two set of people in a standoff, what are the odds that someone will not shoot? If not the first time, what about by the tenth set of two groups?

The captured idiot gov't of the west, seems too retarded to notice before all hell breaks loose, and the oligarch is fine with that.

Impeach Obama, pass Glass-Steagall...or Fukushima might be the least irradiated place on the planet.  Make no mistake, the 'west' would be the Axis, in this war.

Oh yeah, did I mention that unlike us in the U.S., Russia has multiple warhead missiles?

Isn't it amazing what the Banksters are allowed to do to us, and the world, over and over again?

Here are some facts to remember:

- China recently signed a massive deal with Russia, Russia will provide China will all its requirements for oil

- Russia is not a slave to the IMF

- Russia has been arresting every Zionist Oligarch who participated in looting there country, many fled to Israel.

- Russia supplies much of Europe with natural gas

America is playing with fire here.  If the middle east oil supplies going to China are shut off, China will be completely dependent on Russian oil.

If China is completely dependent on Russian oil, Russia has tremendous leverage over China.  it would not be a far stretch that if America pushes Russia's buttons, they will use that leverage to get the Chinese to cut off America from its cheap goods, via a trade embargo.

Inflation would shoot through the stratosphere in the US overnight, the dollar would be in big trouble.  If the middle east is so unstable oil supplies are cut off, China has Zero use for the American dollar, they only need it to buy oil from OPEC.

Russia could cut off gas to Europe, forcing them to pay in gold, or some other currency undermining the paper fiat the US uses to rule the world.

That is a great idea, a Chinese trade embargo on the USA. Then they can sell the posion cat food to Yemen, the posioned drywall to Mongolia, the posioned toys to Burma, the posioned paints to Tahiti, the posioned milk power to Viet Nam, etc.

That would be a fantastic economic boost to China, boycott the USA market. What a great geo-political idea. Of course, the USA will collapse almost immediatly as we cannot survive without cheap TVs, PCs, and plastic crap.

What you fail to realize is that it isn't that goods would cost more if made in America, it's that the multinationals will make less profit.

You don't seem to understand that this current shit is about boosting gas prices. They NEED oil to be over $100 a barrel, or they are broke. But the further the US and European economies tank, the less gas and oil needed. If you can't increase demand, you have to restrict supply. That is what is going on.

The Gang of 8 better hope this thing doesn't  go critical.  Obama has already killed Bin Laden, and shown a lot more stones than most expected in SW Asia.  And now he's got a chance at a real shooting war with definable objectives that the homeland can understand--defending Israeli, taking out an anti-democratic regime, and potentially drawing Iran into a confrontation that ends up with its nuclear facilities bombed by American air power.

These actions give him unassailable foreign policy and C-I-C credentials.  Gubner Perry and his "I've been commander in chief of 20,000 reservists who can kick ass on malnourished mesicans stealing across the border" better find some new talking points...

1. More dead Syrians.

2. Israel won't be able to take out the nukes.

3. POTUS and company won't be able to orchestrate another undeclared war, to distract from the eventual spiral of the bond meltdown.

4. Russia, China, and Iran can start realistic plans to start eliminating the US dollar from oil trade.

You gotta wonder whether the russians have been paying close attention to the republican debates, especially the one last night.  If so, it must be obvious to them that Obama is another Mao/Stalin/Hitler, and all but RonPaul (and maybe Huntsman) are also another Mao/Stalin/Hitler.

Hopefully Russia and China will start rattling their sabers big time over the next months, not only to make neo-con Obama think twice, but also make the american people think "holy crap, we don't want a freaking world war with Russia and China... so maybe we better elect Ron Paul afterall".  It must be obvious to them that the only hope for a semi-sane world at this point is Ron Paul... and that is in their interests and just about everyones' interests (except the military industrial complex).

It is truly astonishing how completely evil, clueless, dangerous and irresponsible Obama and the republicans candidates are.  Russia and China ought to open "super pacs" for Ron Paul.  And so should the rest of the world.  Not kidding!
