Some Ominous Developments In Europe

Tyler Durden's picture

For now, these are isolated incidents. But in Europe events of this kind have an unpleasant tendency of recurring just when it is darkest...

In Greece:

A 70-year-old man has been arrested after opening fire with a shotgun inside an Athens tax office.

Shortly after 11am, the man arrived at the entrance of Agia Paraskevi tax office and started shooting, causing only material damage. He then entered the building but did not threaten any of the officials.

Police rushed to the scene and succeeded in arresting the man, about an hour later, after encouraging him to drop his weapon.

The perpetrator is now being held in a police station, where police are carrying out a preliminary investigation. (Athens News)

And in France:

A man on a scooter opened fire outside a Jewish school in Toulouse in southwestern France on Monday, killing two children and one adult, a police source said.

Five people were injured in the attack, which occurred as students were arriving for morning classes at the Ozar Hatorah school, a city official said.

The attack comes after three soldiers were killed in two separate shootings in the same region by a man who escaped from the scene on a scooter.

French Interior Minister Claude Gueant broke off a visit in northeastern France to head for Toulouse, the police source said. French media reported that security was being tightened at all Jewish schools in the country.

Then, even odder, there is this:

Tuberculosis is often seen in the wealthy West as a disease of bygone eras - evoking impoverished 18th or 19th century women and children dying slowly of a disease then commonly known as "consumption" or the "white plague". But rapidly rising rates of drug-resistant TB in some of the wealthiest cities in the world, as well as across Africa and Asia, are again making history.

London has been dubbed the "tuberculosis capital of Europe", and a startling recent study documenting new cases of so-called "totally drug resistant" TB in India suggests the modern-day tale of this disease could get a lot worse.

"We can't afford this genie to get out of the bag. Because once it has, I don't know how we'll control TB," said Ruth McNerney, an expert on tuberculosis at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine.

TB is a bacterial infection that destroys patients' lung tissue, making them cough and sneeze, and spread germs through the air. Anyone with active TB can easily infect another 10 to 15 people a year.

In 2010, 8.8 million people had TB, and the Geneva-based World Health Organization (WHO) has predicted that more than 2 million people will contract multi-drug resistant TB by 2015. The worldwide TB death rate currently runs at between two and three people a minute.

Little surprise, then, that the apparently totally untreatable cases in India have raised international alarm.

The WHO has convened a special meeting on Wednesday to discuss whether the emergence of TB strains that seem to be resistant to all known medicines merits a new class definition of "totally drug-resistant TB", or TDR-TB. If so, it would add a new level to an evolution over the years from normal TB, which is curable with six months of antibiotic treatment, to the emergence of MDR-TB, then extensively drug-resistant TB (XDR-TB).

What's so frustrating about that progression, says Lucica Ditiu of the WHO's Stop TB Partnership, is that all drug-resistant TB "is a totally man-made disease".

"In 2008 there were 680 accidental shooting deaths in the United States, with more than 15,500 shooting injuries. Most disturbing, perhaps, is the number of children involved in accidental shootings. Every day approximately five children are injured or killed on a nationwide basis as a result of handguns. The primary cause of youth-involved shooting rests with the fact that children find loaded handguns in the home – and natural curiosity leads them down the road to disaster."

Perhaps I should have said MOST AMERICAN CHILDREN WHO ARE SHOT ARE DONE SO BY A FAMILY MEMBER.

or EVERY SINGLE DAY a US citizen is shot by acccident.

http://www.thesurvivorsclub.org/extreme/surviving-accidents/accidental-s...

So I have corrected my statement -  now where are these stories you have hundreds of?

You're just a bullshitting gun owning moron - I'm so glad you're in America and nowhere near me.

Cars are far more dangerous for kids.

http://www.childdeathreview.org/nationalchildmortalitydata.htm

Firearms come in a distant, distant last, far behind fire (which also should be banned I reckon).  That's even including all the <19 year old gangbangers out there shooting one another, along with unarmed citizens seeing as nearly every major American city makes owning a handgun require copious fees and mountains of paperwork.  That is, owning one legally.  Think those gangbangers give a flying fuck about a permit?

Look, accidents happen, and from your own link the accidents with handguns can be attributed to asshole "parents" who:

1.) Can't take the time to properly secure their tools like any half-brained dolt SHOULD ALWAYS DO.

2.) Can't take the time to teach their children about guns, their uses, their dangers, and so on and so forth.

It's sad that these accidents happen.  It's also sad when a child drinks Drano because their parents were busy not being parents.  Or when they drive a nail through their eye with daddy's nail gun.  But you're only clamoring against guns because you have an irrational aversion to firearms, plain and simple.  So the answer is for you to not buy one, and shut the fuck up about it, thank you very little.

You asked for examples and got them, period.  Every single link works, is corroborated (just like you demanded) and is sourced, and the compiling site has no affiliation with the NRA.  I guess now we can add "blatant liar" to your list of glowing attributes.

...and I have provided as many links (and mine work, unlike all the ones you referred to) - to show accidental shooting in America are rife.

I would also point out the site is maintained by http://www.thearmedcitizen.com/ - not exactly an unbiased source is it?

You wrote:

Many more than one have been given, all corroborated.  Ownership and maintenance of the site is irrelevant because every story is sourced to its original posting.  But you're a liar and claim the links don't work/site is produced by the NRA/so on and so forth.

You have thoroughly lost this point, period.  Unless you can come up with an intelligent reply that somehow proves none of the listed incidents did indeed happen, or were not corroborated, you are not worth further consideration.

Were there 'hundreds' as was first claimed?

You provided at best 20 - and half of them were dead links (as I said)

...but don't you worry about it....you keep pumping your old NRA beliefs and one day you'll work out WHY most American criminals turn up armed.

..not the case in Erurope I think you'll find....

I made no such claim, although I know it to be true after reading various studies, a few of which have been posted for you by other people.

However, your request, yet again: "...just 1 please - a single corroborated story - it's not much to ask is it?" is done.  Finished.  But you can't move on because you're not worth further consideration like I suspected.  You can continue arguing with whoever has time for blatant liars.

You have undermined your own argument - gun ownership needs CONTROL because otherwise how do you stop all the idiots owning one?

..or are you prepared to let everyone own one and see what happens?

I've never watched someone defeat themselves in an argument before - you must be REALLY intelligunt.

Are you 12?  Your data sets and assumptions have been destroyed so you resort to playground antics.  Very nice.

Let this sink into your mushy brain before you craft a reply.  GUNS ARE ALREADY CONTROLLED IN AMERICA.  The kid who finds his stupid asshole father's gun and shoots himself with it SHOT HIMSELF WITH A PERMITTED, CHECKED IN, PAPERWORK FILLED OUT I's DOTTED and T's CROSSED TOTALLY LEGAL GUN.  As horrendous as those incidents are, 7 times as many children drank Drano or snorted Ajax and died.  All totally awful accidents.  Yet you pick the the one that results in the fewest accidental deaths each year and rail against it endlessly.  You should be trying to ban cars and fire long before you worry about guns.

Come to grips with your irrational fear of guns.  No one is going to beat you up and make you own one.

Mon, 03/19/2012 - 11:31 | 2269749 writingsonthewall
writingsonthewall's picture

You're getting rather angry - is this why you feel you need a gun?

Is it because your brain is unable to handle an argument and resorting to shooting your opponent is your only way of 'winning'?

Without gun control are there going to be more or less accidents?

Are you going to get more or less shootings?

I mean if you hand out guns to 'anyone' as opposed to handing out guns to anyone except who you think aren't certifiably insane - do you think there will be less murders?

Youre logic is all up your ass - you're saying control isn't needed - but you have shown that even with control accidents happen.

...you then seem to say "well that's part of life" (which it isn't) and that handing out guns to everyone and anyone who wants one is more important than the lives you will saveby not doing so.

Come on - stop messing around - say what you want to say "I want a gun and I don't see why anyone should stop me" - and then stamp your feet on the floor and throw your arms in the air.

....there's a good lad...

From Forbes Magazine, Feb 21, 2012 - http://www.forbes.com/sites/larrybell/2012/02/21/disarming-the-myths-pro...

"A widely-known study conducted by Gary Kleck and Marc Gertz in the 1990s found that there were somewhere between 830,000 and 2.45 million U.S. defensive gun uses annually. A National Crime Victimization Study (NCVS) which asked victims if they had used a gun in self-defense found that about 108,000 each year had done so. A big problem with the NCVS line of survey reasoning, however, is that it only includes those uses where a citizen kills a criminal, not when one is only wounded, is held by the intended victim until police arrive, or when brandishing a gun caused a criminal to flee.

For these reasons, the Cato researchers investigated published news reports which much more often reveal how Americans use guns in self-defense. The data set is derived from a collection of nearly 5,000 randomly selected incidents published between October 2003 and November 2011. Still, the authors also recognize limitations with this approach, since many defensive incidents are never reported by victims, or when they are, never get published. In fact, the overwhelming majority of the successful self-defense outcomes are those where the defendants’ guns are presented but never fired.

Most of the actual self-defense shootings in the Cato study didn’t involve concealed carry licenses, but more typically had to do with responses to residential invasions. Of these, 488 involved home burglaries. In addition, there were 1,227 incidents where intruders were induced to flee the scene by armed inhabitants, circumstances that might otherwise have resulted in injurious assaults including rapes and murders. There were 285 news accounts indicating that the defender had a concealed weapon license, which in the majority of these incidents took place outside a home or place of business. Pizza delivery drivers were common robbery targets."

Gun control is irrelevant - if there is a revolution - we will arm ourselves (the idea that weapons are all locked up is absurd - you only have to turn over the local police station and you're armed to the teeth)

You belive that the police will always act to protect and serve.  In the event that they do not, we will have the numbers and arms to protect ourselves.  Guns also represent security from nature for those of us that live in rural areas.  Guns are powerful tools, and those who seek to restrict ownership are tools of the state.

I use guns weekly, to protect my garden and provide food for my family.  The most common uses of firearms rarely pose a threat to the public.

Fox attacks on people in Loyalhanna Township prompt concerns

"The second victim was able to shoot and kill the fox, and he turned it over to the state Game Commission, which in turn turned it over to us. We sent it to the state Health Department laboratory, where it was confirmed it was rabid," Moore said.

Is that serious?

We have foxes in Britain - we don't need to buy a powerful gun to get rid of them. They're hardly a danger.

Try not leaving out so much rubbish for them to rummage through as they are scavengers - maybe speak to your local McDonalds and ask them to stop leaving out rotting meat which also causes rats.

Crikey - talk about bringing a gun to a pea shooter fight - are Americans pussies or something?

I've never heard of anyone NEEDING to shoot a fox in self defence!

You're not doing your country a service by posting links to killing vermin as a justification for owning guns which will kill 50 men in less than a minute!

What a croc - crime rates are related to Economic activity and wealth distribution - it's got fuck all to do with 'rights'.

Since the UK banned certain types of weapons and controlled them - the number of shootings has fallen dramatically.

Maybe you could bother with some facts before telling me about my own country.

I can tell you that at the moment - NO CHILDREN HAVE BEEN MASSACRED AT SCHOOL since the impostition of stricter gun laws following Dunblane.

PS. FYI, there have been two school shootings in Australia SINCE guns were banned there in 1996. I can't find any instances listed BEFORE guns were confiscated in 1996 (which was in response to an obvious false-flag shooting in Port Arthur, Tasmania).

When in the Middle East or Latin America where I've spent quite a bit of time, whenever I saw a security guard or military patrol walking around armed, I _always_ felt _less_ safe. If there's going to be a gun fight, who do you think will be the first targets? Even when an armoured car is doing a bank machine routine refill I stay off streets like that.

The same for bomb threats, of course that's a little more obvious. When you see the van roll up to a bank or post office in those countries, you get your ass out of the general vicinity. It always amazed me when such events would cause crowds to form. Sheep.

How do you know those "nutters" that kill children aren't false flag attacks by the very ones that want guns to be confiscated? It should be obvious that the ones that investigate and prosecute these horrible crimes are the same ones that want the firearms confiscated. A false flag attack would be easy to cover-up.

It seems strange that these sort of massacres are more common in the countries (or states) where their powers-that-be are trying to outlaw firearms than those that are not trying to do so.

Do the Finns massacre their children with their firearms?

That's just crazy. It's not as if the Justice Department's selling of guns to Mexican criminals which were then used to murder Mexican and American citizens had anything to do with their concurrent campaign to promote the idea that guns obtained legally in the US were being funneled to Mexico for illegal purposes.

"but 100 million plus private guns in Europe is definitely significant."

“The state of Wisconsin has gone an entire deer hunting season without someone getting killed. That’s great. There were over 600,000 hunters.

Allow me to restate that number. Over the last two months, the eighth largest army in the world – more men under arms than Iran; more than France and Germany combined – deployed to the woods of a single American state to help keep the deer menace at bay.

But that pales in comparison to the 750,000 who are in the woods of Pennsylvania this week. Michigan’s 700,000 hunters have now returned home. Toss in a quarter million hunters in West Virginia, and it is literally the case that the hunters of those four states alone would comprise the largest army in the world.”

This whole thing is absurd of course, but it reminds me of the recent summer camp shooting overseas.  Apparently, even the police there have to get permission to get their guns.  Who can forget the Columbine shooting too?  I'll never forget watching the police hiding behind a fire truck while two teenage thugs continued to kill people inside.  Now that's courage!  By the time the police moved in, the shooters had already taken their own lives.  The entire incident is a perfect example of how the police are not going to protect you or your children.  It is your job to do it.

A great way to blame the police for their failure to PROTECT - but nothing about your own (and your nations) responsibility to PREVENT KIDS GETTING HOLD OF AUTOMATIC WEAPONS.

Many Americans know the word 'responsibility' - but very few actually show any!

Virginia is the same way.  Face to face sales of long guns and hand guns is completely legal.  You should at least check for a VA drivers license though to make sure they are really a VA resident.  Then a lot of people want to see a CHP (Concealed Handgun Permit).  I don't bother with the permit, and I only skim the license.  The goal is NOT to remember who they were.  My legal requirement is doing my best to be sure they are a legal resident.  Does the picture match the face?  The license isn't expired?  That's it.  Even CHP'ers could be a recent felon, so checking anything else is stupid.

I've sold numerous weapons within the state.  Who knows how many I've bought the same way too.  The government knows I'm armed.  It just has no idea with what or how many.

No actually, I think the primary use of personal firearms is shooting yourself followed by shooting your wife. You can look that statistic up, it's pretty consistent across most geographic locations.

To get handgun permit where I live (Canada, no full auto weapons allowed, no concealment either) I had to give references who get asked mostly about me being depressed or suicidal, or if I had been arguing with my wife recently. It's pretty much impossible to stop a criminal from getting a gun if he wants one; I don't think the cops have any illusions about that. Same as outlawing drugs and prostitution: waste of effort that allows gangs to corner the market. My firearms application also required my wife's signature.

THe killer profile is that of a cold, quick firing, deliberate, methodical man whose planned every step like a professional. It could be an extreme right nut or group of them with military backgrounds.

Sarkozy and Marine Le Pen are feeling the heat if this scenario is a repeat extreme right wing organised thingie like in Oslo. Both have been fanning the racial fires in the ongoing presidential race. When you sow as hi-profile leaders, the nation reaps, and weeps...Lets see the balisitic analysis on this conjecture...

If you don't descend purely from extra-terrestrial, African, native American or oriental stock, you are most certainly descended from  some Judean ancestors.

To put this in perspective, Jesus of Nazareth allegedly lived about 90 generations ago.  In that period of time you would have 2^90 (about 1 with 27 zeros after it) ancestors, many more people than ever lived on Planet Earth.  The odds that none of your ancestors lived in the middle east 2,000 years ago is close to zero.

You are also your own cousin, many times over.

explain it to the other guy, but please don't mention Jesus, he might remember that his mother was jewish...

A natural reaction to the wanton depraved pervasive evil they see all around them and wicked governments that condone and participate in it.

While everyone is bored to death and we're all waiting to invade Iran maybe we should offer up an appatizer to the moronic masses in The USSA and attack the Virgin Islands or something.  I'm feeling like those rich people lying on a beach are REALLY trying to take my freedom away.  At least it would be something to watch on the MSM bubblegeaded retard news.
