State Of Emergency Issued For New York
Hopefully, this is as bad as it will get. Per Reuters, New York Governor Andrew Cuomo on Thursday declared a state of emergency to prepare for the potential impact of Hurricane Irene, which could hit the state this weekend. The formal declaration allows the state to aid counties, cities and towns "more effectively and quickly," get help from the national Emergency Management Assistance Compact and get federal help earlier, the Democratic governor said in a statement. "We are communicating with our federal and local partners to track the storm and to plan a coordinated response, and we will deploy resources as needed to the areas expected to be hit the hardest," Cuomo said.
All that said, we would be delighted to see the following scene on 200 West Street:

This is the origin of the bloomberg relabeled image on the other thread. It has the predictions of various weather models of the storm. Usually any hurricane that shows up in the atlantic gets tracked here.
Check out www.spaghettimodels.com as well. It's a good aggregate of a bunch of storm data.
nice pic....it's the one time i would ever consider calling a WS banker "chum"
This isn't funny... this could be bad.... Obama might even have to cut his vacation short to visit the places where it rained on Wallstreet....
Obama just doesn't seem to get a break these last few years...
It's not so bad. He can make a stop by Martha's Vineyard where the teleprompters will have him say "We will rebuild - this golf course".
Warren Buffet going for a swim?
Its awsome that the gov has perfected the method of weather creation.
So many applications and benifits... Besides the insider buying and selling of investments related to the targets, not o mention the media distractions need ed to keep people blinded, not to mention controling the stock market , and filling in the headlines between the bogus ones like Bin Laden been had by the GI who been had by the revenge of his brothers who been had by S&P downgrounding the US to been had to Warren Buffet
FEMA get out,and take the IMF with you.
Good point. I wonder if any buildings housing any significant evidence of the whole mortgage fraud and other financial industry crimes will suddenly collapse from this hurricane. If so, it will somehow be the only building that collapses.
Of course if it does happen the entire wreckage, including any of that evidence, will be carted off and destroyed in a foreign country because the emotional effect of the collapse was just too much to bear.
Yeah I know it's all just wild conspiracy crap, but anymore you have to wonder how the criminals that run all of this will use anything and everything to their advantage.

I have an anecdotally un-funny story associated with the insta-shipment of scrap from NYC after 9/11. Was on a local flight and happened to be sitting next to a talkative attorney.
Turned out he looked after the business interests for a very big south indian scrap steel importer. Turns out this guy "got" a part of the sub-sub-sub contract to get a few tonnes over here to india to process. He looked very proud of the fact. Also turns out he was one of the many importers who "benefitted" from this sudden availability of those massive columns at 'very low cost".
So this was probably late 2001/early 2002.
It took the steel a little while to get into the supply chain. Then, in 2008, thsi story abotu radioactive buttons from Otis elevators, perhaps some remember it.
Of course it only got discovered because the stuff went to France:
"The Mafelec workers were using materials that came from an Indian supplier, it said. Faint traces of Cobalt 60, a radioactive form of the metal cobalt, were found in the buttons.
The ASN said it believed that several Indian companies had exported products contaminated with Cobalt 60 to a number of countries.
It named them as Bunts, Laxmi, SKM Steels, Vipras Castings, and Pradeep Metals, and said it was in contact with Indian authorities "in order to find out the result of inspections being carried out on these sites."
Officials here said the radioactivity in the buttons was probably due to the fact that the metals used to make them were from contaminated recycled materials.
Swedish officials meanwhile said Monday that steel items imported from India showing faint traces of radioactivity had been found in Sweden."
Just google radioactive Otis elevator buttons for more.
So really, WTC and it's radioactive legacy, studiously denied, is everywhere and no one really knows, because recycling makes the supply chain hard to track back.

Earthquakes boost GDP, so hurricanes must too; New York should instead be issuing a State of Growth.
If we're lucky, New York City, DC and Boston will be utterly destroyed --- the economic stimulative effect will be off the charts!
Eat your heart out Paulie baby!
For once, I agree that destruction could be good for the economy.
This could mark the first instance of a correct Keynsian theory. WooHoo!
It's only Keynesian if you rebuild it. Otherwise, it's tribute to mother nature. I'd rather call it tribute.

Watch the NY mayor blame it on Canada again....
Relax, New York. Ray Nagin, former Mayor of New Orleans during Hurricane Katrina, has volunteered to help Mayor Bloomberg and Governor Cuomo with emergency management for Hurricane Irene.

It is becoming clear that Irene's future track will NOT be a Hurricane Earl (2010) scenario where a hurricane barely brushes the Outer Banks of North Carolina then stays well offshore. - History tells us that no category 4 hurricane has made landfall north of the South Carolina/North Carolina border. That said, some computer guidance indicates a category 4 landfall over eastern North Carolina and this solution can NOT be ruled out.
Intensity is still 99 KT at flight level. The hurricane is in the late stage of an eye-wall replacement cycle and the former double wall has closed to a single wall 30 Km wide still open at the south. One of two things happens from here (1) the eye fails to consolidate and it makes landfall as a cat two or (2) the eye does consolidate and it strengthens overnight and into tomorrow a.m. in which case we have major big time problems.

nothing's sacred, everything subject to due diligence folks. "owning the weather 2025"
I suppose it shouldn't be startling to me to see that the Rotchschild Klan is investing heavily into weather data/info services.
So why am I startled?
Because Blackstone Group - led by Peter G. Peterson (a very powerful luciferian insider) - is also involved?! ;)

Dr. Jeff Master's blog discussing a few of the potential impacts from a direct or near strike to the NE coast. Irene has the potential to be catastrophic. Mayor Bloomberg stating NYC would make the decision of mandatory evacuations Friday afternoon is a complete joke. Moving and setting up shelter operations for 50,000, much less 500,000 people 24 hours before the rain begins shows a disconnect from the intricacies of such an operation. Worse case: Cat 2 and landfall NYC would mean upwards of 15 feet of water in parts of the city, lost communications and electrical capacity for potentially a month or more due to flooding of the power stations and infrastructure damage.
A few of the things to consider in a worst-case: high rises and apt buildings with no power for weeks during summer, inability to send food and water to certain areas of the city, thousands dead with no place to put the bodies, sewage awash in the streets, breakdown of civil order (like Katrina), fiber optic cables fried, subways filled with seawater, fires in building with no way to put with no way to put them out. The people, of course, are the wildcard. Call me a cynic but I just don't think they'll go meekly into the night like the Japanese and Fukishima. In such circumstances, the thin layer of civility will quickly come off and reveal the barbarian beneath.
I am an emergency manager; it's what I do for a living. This thing could be bad, much worse than a Katrina in terms of loss of life and financial and economic impact.

Any bets on the Hamptons, Greenwich, Darien and New Canaan getting services restored a tidge quicker than elsewhere?
Those location all border NYC by Long Island Sound. Short answer, probably not. But it depends on the planning and the resources available to CT emergency management division, the utility companies. If well prepared, the answer is yes. But well prepared is few and far between. I would not depend on any government agency getting it's act together or responding efficiently in order to provide necessities for you and your family. Best plan: Be prepared to take care of yourself for a month or longer. Don't depend on anyone else to do it for you.
Depends on how bad the violence from New Haven, Bridgeport, and Norwalk is...
Bingo!
LOL Call out the National Guard....
could be a fun
new york weekend...
got kayak...
I think this is all hype.
Irene will hit NYC with all the force of a Bwaney Fwank Queef or Fluffer.
It will be gusty, and a little wet, and it will smell awful for a while, friends, but all will be fine.
Yeah, nothing ever happens in NYC. Like buildings collapsing, planes crashing. Smelly little sleepy town.
Earthquakes, steampipe explosions, bomb attempts in Times Square, occasional rioting. It really is a lot like Osh Kosh.
Nobody does disasters like New York. They have a sort of festive quality here.
Nobody does disasters in New York like the insiders.
As a former resident of Oshkosh in the early 90's I agree.
By Gosh
Like the predictions of mighty snowstorms through NYC this will end in one of two ways. Either we will get 3 droplets of rain or we will take a mother____ing 2 x 4 to the head. That is exaclty how last winter shook out.
I remember the one Sunday where I called our office manager and told her they should preemptively close the office. They did nothing until the following morning when 15 inches of snow were on the ground.
The next time they predicted such a storm it was clear and sunny the next day and drier than granny's honeyspot after 50 years without grampy.
Shit....granny don't play....a grrlz gotta live....

Damn close to funk, girl.
I could preempt this and go to New York Public Library and start burning taxation books! Day before tomorrow! Woot! :)
I plan to be home all day Sunday. I have a birdseye view of all of those pieces of shit in the Financial District. I will be anxiously awaiting to see them blown away. I will let you know if I see anything as great as the Goldman building being lifted from Terra Firma and swallowed into the Hudson by their dark lords. That would be awesome.
That would be several lightminutes beyond 'awesome.' Hope you have a vidcam ready j-i-c!
WestVillageIdiot - you know this is perfect for Wall Street and the government. A collapse is happening they have commited who knows how much fraud, the country is falling - So now, both Wall Street and the Government can say "Don't look at us, we didn't do it, Irene is the cause of the fall of the U.S.". Irene hitting NYC is the perfect excuse for everything that is already going down hill. Haarp is probably making sure it bulls eyes Wall Street.

And on a Sunday. Damn these fukks are good.

It's transitory anyway.

Watching the Hudson on Sunday might be more fun than watching two lesbian dwarves get it on with a pigmy goat.
Not that I've ever seen two lesbian dwarves get it on with a pigmy goat. There were actually three lesbians but one was double-jointed.
Bush could be blamed for this, you realize...
you did not hear. when they had the earthquake they re named the falt line "Bushes falt" so anymore earthquakes in the area will be bushes falt
lol
Who?
George Bush doesn't like black people.
ooops, wrong thread & era.
Hold it, hold it, hold it...
If Clinton was the first black president, wouldn't that make Bush the second and Obama the third?
Hmmmmm, if Irene does some real damage, how is congress, the states, and local governments going to fund the repairs?
Jackson Hole Johnny will make sure to print up more than enough gold, er I mean money, to fund any reconstruction. Just like we did in Iraq and Afghanistan.
That asshat Cantor has come out with the answer for you... no relief funding without equivalent spending cuts (unfortunately this is not a joke)... the legions of Tea Party group think members here at ZH must be so proud!
I'd say he's the biggest asshole to ever stain the halls of congress, but there are so many more of them in his caucus it would be impossible to pick the biggest one out of the crowd. They should tie him down to a surfboard and let him fend for himself (you know... no free lunch) a couple of miles out to sea... lets say this Sunday, mid afternoon! Better yet, how about Tyler invites him to the first annual ZH Fight Night and I'll take the first round with Leader Cantor... that little wimp wouldn't last 60 seconds... and I'm in my 60s!
God's coming for Long Island bitchez!
Markets may be closed through Labor Day. Position accordingly.
No one will be getting home to NYC from Jackson Hole any time soon. Position accordingly.
The only position associated with the doings at Jackson Hole is the bent over position.
Have fun at the State Fair, Jim. I hope you enjoy the Def Lepard show and the butter princess. Stay away from the farm animals. Don't forget your restraining order.
Nobody can stop me getting my fingers nibbled by designer geese in the poultry barn.
And the crop art...don't get me started on the crop art....
It's all about the cheese curds. One heart-stopping battered pellet after another. Washed down with non-intoxicating (but violence inducing) near-beer. Damn I miss that place!
I have friends that do a lot of the food at the State Fair and county fairs, including cheese curds. But give me the mini donuts any day. If all goes well, and Irene doesn't fuck things up, I may be enjoying a bag or two this year. I think I just got a slight erection thinking about it. It measured about a 3.4 on the Richter Scale.
There is no shame in mini-donut luv. We all have it...some of us just don't admit it.
Shaftoe sits in a fancy chair next to the piano, adjusts his trousers a bit so that they will not cramp his erect penis, checks his shave.

Wynter Benton's latest states a major SOVEREIGN CENTRAL BANK is accumulating silver as a RESERVE ASSET, and is about to publicly announce this!
Perhaps this would explain China's sudden change from massive silver exporter to importer?
That could get interesting real fast. Time to go talk to Zhou Xiaochuan's cousin again and see WTF is up.
Goldline is a sovereign bank?
Mexico has been hashing legislation for remonetizing silver as 1 oz coin to run in parallel with their other currency. The Hugo Salinas Price project. I realize that's not even the same thing, and Mexico is not a major central bank. But I look forward to finding out who it is.

How many nuclear plants do we have on the coast. The way things have been going...
There are a shit load of nuke plants:
"As of the morning of August 25, a number of nuclear power plants appeared to be within the storm’s projected path: Brunswick, Harris, Indian Point, Pilgrim, Millstone, Surry, Seabrook, Vermont Yankee, Limerick, Calvert Cliff, Peach Bottom, Three Mile Island, Susquehanna and Salem. Of those, the plants further inland and to the north would likely see less impact."

I would say it's no big deal because there are several around Miami, but like was said, the way things have been going...
I would say it's no big deal because there are several around Miami, but like was said, the way things have been going...
Turkey Point took a near direct hit from Hurricane Andrew. In the wake of Fukushima and recalling the complete destruction of Homestead, I really wonder how the plant made it through unscathed
perhaps it wasn't Turkey Point's "time" - if you catch my drift. . .
the old stacks (not nuclear) were damaged beyond repair, I have videos of the controlled demo.
Yea,... but nothing could really happen,... right? I mean all safety measures have been implemented,..fantastic GE design,..foriegn nationals at the control planels, spent plutonium sored neatly on the tpmost level and all that,.....right?!
I know you're being sarcastic, but I can't help but jump in on that one. GE *does* have excellent designers- and high standards. They also still source a lot of their parts in the US.
I've actually been in on some of the builds for GE, and, no shit, they are better designers than Raytheon (the guys who bring you the US air force, and their associated space toys.)
I know it's fun to pick on the big guys, and it fits the meme here, but GE is a great company, no matter what you think. What are you bitching about, anyhow? That an outdated reactor in Japan couldn't handle a 9.0 earthquake that was immediately followed by a giant tsunami? Heh. Like to see you make anything that can withstand that kind of wrath o' god better!
Git all yer Amerinuke information right here:

It would be nice to see the above scene ONLY by Krugman's house.
fuck that, I got a little survival raft at home, guess I'm bringing it to work tomorrow. Since I am, goddam-the-weatherman, coming to work tomorrow.

I love New york. Its my house. Its my home. Everyone i ever new my whole life is here. I will die here.
Good on ya.
I fully support New Yorkers staying in New York.
I concur.
Forever
With no communication to the outside world.
Throw in DC while you're at it.
Human diversity is amazing.
I mean no offense, ploceque, but to live in New York City would be, for me, like being consigned to one of the lower circles of Hell. The crowds, the noise, the lack of privacy and solitude, the impersonality of daily life, the near-complete divorce from the natural world, the soul-sucking rat race existence --- I would rather die, literally. (None of those factors of modern life are unique to NYC, of course --- but they are all particularly evident there). However, such radical personal differences are part of what makes civilization so grand.
Makes it sound like a first loss best loss situation.
(PS, lived there far too fucking long... great synopsys)
