Steve Jobs Has Passed Away (1955-2011)

Tyler Durden's picture

Steve Jobs has passed away, according to Apple. May the greatest one man success story of our times rest in peace.

Statement by the Apple board:

We are deeply saddened to announce that Steve Jobs passed away today.

Steve’s brilliance, passion and energy were the source of countless innovations that enrich and improve all of our lives. The world is immeasurably better because of Steve.

His greatest love was for his wife, Laurene, and his family. Our hearts go out to them and to all who were touched by his extraordinary gifts.

And from his family:

Steve died peacefully today surrounded by his family.

In his public life, Steve was known as a visionary; in his private life, he cherished his family. We are thankful to the many people who have shared their wishes and prayers during the last year of Steve's illness; a website will be provided for those who wish to offer tributes and memories.

We are grateful for the support and kindness of those who share our feelings for Steve. We know many of you will mourn with us, and we ask that you respect our privacy during our time of grief.

To capture the visionary genius of the man, and truly the legend, we repost probably the most comprehensive interview that Jobs ever conducted, this one with Playboy magazine from 1985

I am sorry you wife passed several years ago from liver failure.

Steve jobs got his liver 2 years ago.

He didn't jump the queue. That is impossible. He definately played geographic organ transplant arbitrage. That game is available to all people (granted easier for the wealthy to play but life ain't fair). Where some organ transplant lines are shorter in different regions of the country. However the rules about who qualifies for the organ, who gets the organ apply to all equally.

Thu, 10/06/2011 - 03:13 | 1744459 Howard_Beale
Howard_Beale's picture

You are spot on Lizzy. Money does not always get you to the front of the gate. When Mickey Mantle or whoever the baseball alcoholic was that got the liver a decade ago it was all assumed that his fame and glory made it happen.

Truth is, there are organ murderers. It's horrendously cruel but true. Take the kidneys, the liver, eyes, etc. and sell them on the black market. Now that is a travesty that good stem cell research (were it not for Bush and the phucknut religous right stopped progress on for years) might have changed. We will never know until we can grow our own organ replacements.

But that is not what this post is about. It is about Steve. And he wasn't going to make it because his problems stemmed from the pancreas. The cancer for the liver had to be near the portal (I know a great deal about this) but not on it. So that means it was just spreading througout hs body.

We lost one incredible visionary today. He will go down with Edison and Einstein in the advancement of technology and communications. I may even go out and buy an Ipad since it would really come in handy.

I'm very sorry about your wife. But you know when death is staring you in the face, who knows what a person might do?

I would tend to blame the medical profession for the shortage of transplantable organs. There is no incentive for anyone to donate. And people kind of wonder if they were dying on the operating table and the doctor knew they were an organ donor, whether he might be just a little less likely to do every possible thing in order to save them.

Perhaps if doctors modified their system so that people who had previously registered as organ donors for a long time were given preference over non-organ donors when allocating organs for transplant, it might give more people an incentive to register as organ donors.

I remember back in the early 1980's when my best friend got an Apple IIe.  We spent hours and hours playing games, experimenting with graphics, learning to program, and talking about the latest developments in the computer industry.  Even back then, Steve Jobs was already a legend, having started the comany in his garage and having moved so rapidly onto the cutting edge of an exciting field.  He managed to stay at the cutting edge for decades, and overcame some serious setbacks.  While not perfect, as none of us are, his life certainly represents one notable accomplishment after another.  We will miss him.

There is also an alternative origination from the word "negus" which was the Ethiopian formal title of the king.

Maybe relates to "my nigga"   !!

Dear Steve Jobs,

Thank you for helping keep the ponzi scheme going for an extra 30 years.  Without you, we wouldnt have had a reason to max out our credit cards, or further the gap in the trade deficit.  You were a true American and Patriot.  Could have never gone off the gold standard without you!

Sadly, with all his money and power, Jobs failed to prolong his life for one more day......... What a clairvoyant or prescience view derived from the passing of Jobs..... That what can't be saved will not be saved, no matter how powerful one is......One can delay the inevitable, but can never eschew it. Now, chew on it and you know, in a time horizon long enough.......You got exactly zero.

In Tibet the day of death is thought of as highly important. It is believed that as soon as the death of the body has taken place, the personality goes into a state of trance for four days. During this time the person does not know they are dead. This period is called the First Bardo and during it Lamas (monks) saying special verses can reach the dead person.

It is believed that towards the end of this time the dead person will see a brilliant light. If the radiance of the Clear Light does not terrify them, and they can welcome it, then the person will not be reborn. But most flee from the Light, which then fades.

The person then becomes conscious that death has occurred. At this point the Second Bardo begins. The person sees all that they have ever done or thought passing in front of them. While they watch they feel they have a body but when they realize this is not so, they long to possess one again. Then comes the Third Bardo, which is the state of seeking another birth. All previous thoughts and actions direct the person to choose new parents, who will give them their next body.

well, part of the "second bardo" contemplation includes sorrow & compassion for those wronged/used - this can lead to the desire to "make amends" and is part of the desire to incarnate again, the righting of wrongs. . .

not my path, but I'm aware of it.  Mr. Jobs had the usual human foibles, and perhaps the human regrets towards his end.  no one knows but him.

All apple did was put together over-priced software and hardware into one package. Such a great idea, huh?  Too bad there's really no need for that model unless you're some iFool who can't figure out computers.  He was a great salesman who knew how to sell a product that wasn't the best or greatest--but only the sale matters.

Just look at these monkeys with their "awwwww bawwwww bawwww--RIP, etc, etc."

In fact, the guy still lucked out: he'll be leaving the world before the entire place turned into some gigantic shithole.  The rest of us will have the pleasure of trying to stay afloat in a shitstorm.  And LOL, a bunch of people posting on a blog, paying their respect--for what?  Some guy who lived better than you or I ever could with the rest of our lives.  Yeah, man.  'spect for ripping off dumbasses.

I have more respect for the Foxconn workers who offed themselves than Jobs.

Apple was a copycat.

Jobs may have been a decent guy, and it's sad to see someone go young, but all this talk about 'visionary' and 'innovator' is crap.  Jobs took tech that others actually innovated and put shiny, feel-good interfaces on them (which is important, sure, but hardly visionary).  Then sold the fad-addled masses the repackaged three-year-old stuff for a 40% premium on current technology.  Brilliant marketer, but hardly a tech luminary.

If you hate what I'm saying, you can go get some consolation from the press releases for the hotly-anticipated new offering from Apple this fall... it's a brand new innovation called cloud computing!

And your point is?  I agree about the tech, but what the hell does that have to do with anything?  He built the worlds most valuable company and it was all Steve Jobs.  I don't even have a Mac but I have a huge amount of respect for anyone that can accomplish what he did.  He is a legend.

Whole lot of people here who don't know the real history of Apple, and Jobs' part in it. People who maybe own flashy toy computing devices, think Jobs deserves any kudos for them, and don't have a clue what those 'flashy toys' *could* have been without Jobs forcing his over-controlling philosophy onto the designs.

The true genius that started Apple was Wozniac. Jobs was just the money guy. It was also Jobs who stabbed Wozniac in the back, and defrauded him of his stake in the company. It was Jobs and that shithead John Scully from Pepsi who steered Apple to the high-price, IP-rights enforcing, nearly closed-box path they took.

So, RIP Jobs. Together with Gates, you did a great job for the global Elites in crippling the potential for open computing power for the masses. Apple and Microsoft - another instance of the False Dichotomy, just like 'two party politics.' Give the people a pretend choice, then fuck them from both sides. Works every time.

If there's a Hell, Steve Jobs is probably there now.

It's all in how you interpret what recorded history there is about the man.  Unless you were there every step of the way, that's all we have... interpretation and our opinions.

Steve wasn't just the money man.  He might not have been such a wiz at code and hardware as Woz' but he walked the walk too when Apple was starting up.  I'd say he was more of a "faceman" for Apple.

He never defrauded Woz'.  Woz' became a millionaire just like Steve when the company went public.  Woz' had more compassion and when Steve held back on giving others ownership at that time... Woz' gave some of his own shares to the others who had "got them there".

Scully fired Jobs... sheesh, get it straight guy.  They only worked together for about a year!  Sculley and Spindler proceeded to ruin the company over the next decade until the company brought Steve back.

Apple was never intended to be an open playground for hackers.  It was intentionally engineered/designed to coordinate the hardware, OS and software in a more harmonious way than any other computing platform.  During the time of Sculley and Spindler they almost destroyed this essence of the company.  It cost Apple (headed by Steve) a tremendous amount of money to buy out all the "clones" and right the ship.

Go take some med's, your conspiracy theories are trying to re-write history.

If Jobs "stabbed Wozniak in the back", then it is up to Wozniak to be upset about it.  He is not.
