The Story Of Blind Chinese Dissident Chen Guangcheng Explained In Two Minutes

Tyler Durden's picture

Confused by the latest flop in US foreign policy hyporicy (not to mention China's domestic) involving blind Chinese dissident Chen Guangcheng, whom America (usually so very strongly in favor of human rights, except when push comes to shove), sold down the river? Fear not, because here, courtesy of Taiwan based cartoon outfit NMA World Edition, is an abbreviated version for dummies and intellectuals alike, explaining everything one needs to know about this story in 135 seconds.

Well, when you start waterboarding and torturing others yourself, why would give a shit what somebody else does with them if you're not willing or able to go to war over it. Move on, nothing to see here. This is a simple case of not shitting where you sleep.

Are Taiwan residents allowed to own weapons?
That would explain why China has not tried to invade, just as Germany chose not to invade CH during WWII.

I am by all means pro gun ownership, but do you seriously believe Germany did not invade CH during WWII because the Swiss had a few guns ? Which they would most probably not even use because 65% of people there speak German and for obvious reasons must have been sympathetic to the German case?

I have spent 8 years in Taiwan and no, it is very hard to get a permit to own a gun there. And most people do not have a reason to, crime is virtually nonexistant (well I mean the violent type, there's quite a lot of 'white collar' crime though).

Germany didn't invade Switz because of the extreme delay in tanks capabilities. Now you just drop them in and fly them out. The time it would've taken to drive them in, drive them out (to steal much needed gold) would have screwed them.

Germany did not invade Switzerland because the Rothschild backers of the Nazi party kept their gold there for security purposes.  Perhaps?

Dude, you dont need to cross any mountains. Look at the map. From Germany you just march right into Switzerland, singing. Just like to (similarly mountanous and similarly German-speaking) Austria in 1938. And just like in Austria, there would be hardly any resistance.

the reason why Germany did not invade CH during ww2 is definitely not military but ECONOMIC.

i am swiss and i am a patriot and proud of our direct democratic traditions. But there is no way that swiss army could stop german advance, germany had more soldiers, better trained and FAR BETTER equipped, ONLY choice for us was to go fighting on mountains. BUT tell me what you will eat when you will be surrounded after 1 year siege on a fucking mountain.

Germany had really others reasons to not invade CH

Not "a few" guns.  Every adult male had at least one rifle, and was a certified marksman.  The Swiss also could easily have sealed off the tunnels (with the Germans in them) in the event of an invasion.

There is a reason the Swiss have remained independent AND neutral for hundreds of years--the militia.  Militias are TERRIBLE at invasion, but are practically impossible to conquer.  At least, not without massive casualties to snipers (something which would continue for the full course of the occupation), and wholesale genocide.  A guerilla army is hard enough to deal with, but a guerilla army consisting of half of the population of the occupied area?

Taiwan may well be better - although China hovers over it like the sword of Damocles.

Here's the chart for world prison population - it gives one pause.

http://chartsbin.com/view/eqq

Sadly the US leads the world in having the most prisoners per capita (ie. putting the most people in small metal cages) than anywhere else. Oddly though, not one person from the squid is in prison...

Someday I hope to see the US as free country again as opposed to the over controlled, over-regulated, over-taxed, Fed dominated nightmare it has become (is becoming).

Unfortunately we may morph directly into a 'world government' where there will be no country to safely escape to or dissent from.  I laugh at the the "Star Trek like" vision of a benign world organization - more truthfully it will be a vision of an enslaved planet that a Hitler, Stalin or Mao would just love!

It's funny that Star Trek understood a federation was the ideal government structure with planets but not countries.

Thu, 05/03/2012 - 12:41 | 2394192 Roger O. Thornhill

The mind disease that most people have is that we can create a 'utopia' on this planet.

Human beings can't settle for good enough - it always has to be perfect. Hitler was an idealist. Mao was an idealist. Pol Pot was an idealist. And they tried to make perfect societies (in their vision of perfect).

It is quite obvious that idealism is what kills the most people, and makes for a living hell.

If we could just accept that we are flawed and that there will never be a perfect society we could have a semi-decent world. The founders of the U.S. were among the first to create a government with the understanding that humanity is fatally flawed, hence they built in checks and balances and sought to avoid a concentration of power. And they also understood most people should be left alone to pursue whatever the hell they they wanted to pursue.

People think these ideas are contradictions, when, in fact, they are paradoxes.

Thu, 05/03/2012 - 14:14 | 2394669 tarsubil
tarsubil's picture

People want to look at and rule others because they do not want to look at and rule themselves. This is why the people in power are always caught being such hypocrites. A republic with true liberty starts when you accept that people are not going to always use their freedom to do things that you approve of.

Or poor, or a different color, or a different nationality, or of a different subnationality (Tibetians, etc).

It is not "US citizens" that think some humans don't have rights, it is the corrupt leaders, the politicians and the media moguls who think that.  But they don't think ANYONE has ANY rights.  They just can't assault human rights within the borders of the US directly...oh wait, now they can, and have.

At least with the Obama campaign contributions from China they get something real, like Canadian oil sands, courtesy of the Kestone pipeline cancellation.
