Thank You (Anti) Whitney Tilson For The One Soaring Product Today

Tyler Durden's picture

While pervasive asset liquidations are dragging everything lower, stocks and gold included, one thing is doing amazingly well and is up over 7% intraday and nearly 36% in the past 5 days. The "thing" is, naturally, the Anti-Tilson ETF: the pair trade of being long GMCR (Tilson's vocal short) and short NFLX (Tilson's legendary flip flop). Just like theStreet did an amazing job of being the contrarian indicator du jour, so Tilson continues to be the market's most valuable (counter) indicator.

Anti-Tilson Intraday:

And longer term:

It is blatantly unfair to compare Michelle's clothing collection with a Wookie. Everyone knows Blonds  are crazy about Wookie.

His HS business class is running a fictional/for-fun trading portfolio. He is loaded up on NFLX and not doing well. He came home from school crying the other day, but I think that is more because the football team shoved him in a locker again.

Sold my 200 (big spender! :P)  FAZ at around 2pm this afternoon at $50.21, as it always seems to close well down from mid day highs. Bought in at 41 ish, and out for now until it starts heading lower. Currency trade from USD back into CAD was nice too with the nasty decline in the latter over past week or so.

Sure, most people should be sensible enough to not take the option.

Tilson is a fart catching hack.  He needs a FED orchestration of QE to make a buck.  The worst kind of trader.  All take, no balance/timing and a big media mouth that runs like a 15 year old scorned.

He deserves catching a cock in the mouth.

defense stocks look poised for pullback imo...if the "super committee" cannot reach a deal then mandatory defense cuts kick in...charts look promising too...(LMT, GD, etc.)

yes there's always some risk...but take LMT for example:

3 straight days of increased selling culminating in a high volume day yesterday...then a gap down resulting in what is right now a rather ominous looking doji...there could be a snapback but i think the downside is more likely

the bigger risk i think is that the "super committee" actually accomplishes something

again, just my opinion

I wouldn't argue with you Caerus, I've learned that. However, if you're putting much emphasis on the lack of a plan by the stupor committee and counting on the triggered spending cuts, I would suggest that they can and probably will change the rules regarding the triggered cuts. Something to think about.

agreed dawg, i thought about that...but i always consider price action before macro background just because this works best for me...this may however be one of those occasions where the technicals agree with the broader environmental factors...

reuters just reported that the "super committee" failed to reach an agreement...what a surprise

edit: looks like mccain and others are already suggesting defense be exempted

OT/ the super-committee comments page on C-Span is getting very hilarious: we have Doug Kass accusing Sen Baucus of insider trading and Donald Trump griping about POTUS:

" When the Super Committee fails, @BarackObama will get exactly what he really wants--automatic cuts in defense spending. This is his plan."

Maybe ZH should divert the fight club to this comments page: http://www.c-span.org/deficit/

Some of my politically challenged buds out here in the Winter Home of the Great Satan who work for the state, county and local gubamints are swearing up and down that the cuts are killing them.
There ain't been any fucking cuts, yet.
They're bemoaning a lack of huge %age increases over last year.

And wondering why the public's mad that there are so many county workers on trial for fraud, theft etc., ripping the taxpayer off.
They're smaller scale Goldmanites.

Keep tellin' 'em just wait till your fucking pensions disappear.

Christmas present if you're looking to buy.  My buy order at 1630 is still open.  I sold IAU on that bump to 1750, which was based on some rumor-fueled euro exuberance.  The dollar came back up, but gold prices just went sideways.

I originally bought at 1250.  If I don't get back in, no biggie.  I'm cashing out the rest of the 401k in Jan.

I have to say This is one of my favorite topics on ZH.  Imagine Tilson explaining to his shareholders his history on NFLX.

Went short on NFLX, published an article explaining his thesis and got his a** handed to him during the momo run up.  Covered his shorts, wrote a love letter about NFLX, missed the whoosh down.  Bought shares just in time for dilution and another leg down.

Hey Whitney I have some advice for you.  STAY AWAY FROM NFLX!
