With Europe set to close shortly, it just may be the case that the relentless headline barrage of rumors, lies and other European sourced imports will cease at least for a few hours. So while we are awaiting to see what Syria and Iran's (not to mention Russia and China's) response will be to the latest Arab League 24 hour ultimatum, here is today's open thread to kill the boredom until we get a chance to express our thanks for all the selling opportunities about to unfold, and until we get to find out if one can buy that completely unnecessary 9th plasma (for 50% off because in America spending money is saving) while dumping BTPs from a WalMart store at 3am in the morning.

Ah I know what I am thankful for, yesterday the doctor called and the test results were in, not cancer or Crohn's. God, it has been like a death sentence hanging over my head for two months and now poof, gone. They might have waited till next Monday to phone but the Doc really worked his ass off so that people like me could have an extra reason to be thankful. I feel bad for the ones he decided to wait to call though, they have a hard road ahead. People seem to forget that the dollar’s barter exchange value has been circulated for decades and hundreds of trillions of dollars worth of products and commodities have changed hands through the use of dollars every decade. The fact that the dollar is “just” an exchange barter tool since 1963 has not changed.
Does anyone think the massive expansion of the economy would have taken place using gold as the barter tool over the same time period?
Individual’s assets in 1955 were rather sparse and bare compared to the individual’s assets today. Inflation has taken root over the last 20 years due to the spiral of run-away growth and the effect of greed and unethical oppertunity applied from and due to the boom periods where cash flowed as king and as time went by he who could cheat the other guy first walked with the kingdom of the booty. (within government expansion the before mentioned was done quite well)
The ethical and honest were pushed to the shadows to be ignored and the greedy opportunists walked with the booty and became the power base who now called the shots.
Per gold, what we are seeing at this time is the culmination of the “50 year plan” . People in general are not to bright. The public owns percentage wise very little gold. In 1963 / 64 when we went off the gold and silver standard, the 50 year plan began. The commercial banks; large international families; and a few countries started the focus and organized effort to buy all of the gold each and every yea! r. Hundreds of tones per month as they manipulated to keep the price low.
Come 1999 they were very successful in their focus and plan. I would estimate their stockpile of gold increased by over 20,000 tons AND they did so right up until 2000 getting the gold at an average price of $134 to $175 per oz.
When looking at gold the parties mentioned above would own over 80% of the physical gold and the general population less than10%. Independent commercial interests the rest.
Well, it does not matter if you own all the gold in the world, if you can not unload it in barter for other commodities or property the value is nil.
So, here we go with 2001 and the stage is set and the play begins. Circumstances are forced to create fear; the sky is falling; economic doom and gloom come 2008; the propaganda begins to condition many with Parrot sound-bite conditioning to belittle the dollar and “gold is what is needed as the barter tool with ever increasing fever”.
Again, the general public is not to bright. Those commercial banks; large international families; and a few countries with gold hovering in the $1600 to $1800 per oz pricing are standing on a potential profit of over 1000%. They can not sell tens of thousands of tons of gold, the gold they own, that 90% of what is held by them on the open market or gold would plummet down to $10 per oz over-night, possibly to $5 per oz.
The volume of actual “physical” gold sales taking ! place at these levels over the last year is very light compared to what has been stockpiled by the cartel.
What you will see take place over the next two years is the promotion by the cartel to make the public believe “it is essential to have a gold backed currency”. The parrots will be saturated with sound-bites to Parrot away screaming and demanding a gold backed currency. **International Circumstances will be created to bring the fear level to the brink.**
Then in 2014 or possibly 2013, the Powers-That-be, will say: We have heard your cries and we must in good consciousness yield to your demands, so here is your gold backed currency… Bait; Hooked; landed; and fried.
** Now the cartel will have the liquidity ** to unload what they have stockpiled for 50-years as the country obtains the physical gold to back the currency… 1000%+ profit locked in and the public now becomes the bag-holder.
After the conversion is complete and the horde unloaded, then the collapse in gold prices begins (2015-16), with the true and real collapse of the dollar now taking place backed by the quickly diminishing value of gold.
The 50-year plan is complete. The wealth transfer accomplished for the cartel, and the public will be screaming and looking at who to point the finger of blame upon.
The only one to blame in reality will be themselves for so easily being masterfully entertained by Bait; Hooked; landed; and fried.
Break the conditioning! Look at “who” owns all of the gold. That old adage: “He who owns all of the gold makes the rules” applies and believe me, you DO NOT WANT them making the rules.
But then suicide is on the rise now a day…

What Does OWS, Tea Party, and Thanksgiving Have In Common? Everything!What does Occupy Wall Street, the Tea Party, and Thanksgiving 2011 have in common? The answer is everything.
Thanksgiving in America celebrates a harvest feast held between the Pilgrims and Indians near Plymouth, Massachusetts.
The Protestant Separatists Pilgrims who left Europe aboard the Mayflower to come to America did so to escape religious persecution which plagued Europe during the European Religious Wars that lasted over a 100 years as a result of the Protestant Reformation.
The Protestant Reformation started in Europe as a result of economic and political corruption of the Catholic Church during the middle ages wherein Christians were permitted, amongst other things, to buy indulgences (essentially the absolution of sin in exchange for money.)
The Protestant Reformation was started by three major groups led by Martin Luther, John Calvin, and the Anglican Church and was sparked by Martin Luther's Ninety-Five Theses.
The common theme of the Protestant groups was that the Catholic Church had created religious laws (and accompanying monetary obligations) on Christians from birth until death that were not found in the Bible in order to derive an economic benefit for the papacy's treasury.
The Separatists religion later grew as an offshoot of the Protestant Reformation via the Anglican Church.
Due to the top down corruption of the Catholic Church and European aristocracy at the time, the Separatists (and Puritans in Massachusetts who had their own Thanksgiving) Pilgrims were overwhelmingly democratic when they set up their colonies in New England.
In fact, Alex de Tocqueville reasoned in his book Democracy In America, that it was the Puritans who started the foundation of American Democracy.
Over a hundred years later, the American democratic tradition then translated into anti-Monarchists politics due to the English Crown's economic and political oppression of the colonists through the use of taxes and the manipulation of economic trade, resulting in the Revolutionary War.
Then, over the last 150 years, the American political élite began to intrude into every aspect of American life through the use of the U.S. Income Tax, Federal Reserve, social programs, fiat money, and manipulation of the free market system - all of which is ultimately designed for the economic benefit of the élite just like the strategies of the corrupt Catholic Church of the Middle Ages and the English Crown.
It took less than 25 years after the creation of the Federal Reserve and U.S. Income tax for the élite financiers to go full speed at plundering the wealth of the United States, ultimately leading to the Great Depression of 1929.
The economic conditions were so bad in the U.S. and the rest of the world, that many people began to believe that the allegations made by fascists and communists that democratic capitalism was inherently corrupt and that their forms of government were better. These conditions inevitably started World War II.
Without learning any lessons from the past, the corrupt élite's free market manipulation went back to their old tricks after World War II, resulting in the accelerated transfer of wealth from Americans to the elite over the last 40 years.
When it finally became apparent to enough Americans that the economy is facing an inevitable collapse due to the corrupt nexus of the U.S. political and financial elites, a new Reformation movement began in the form of populist political organizations like Occupy Wall Street and The Tea Party.
Just like Martin Luther and John Calvin, both the OWS movement and the Tea Party agree on the problem, but differ in ideology as how to address it. So what does each movement bring to the Thanksgiving table?
From Occupy Wall Street:
1. Support of public works programs 2. Tax hikes on the wealthiest 3. Student loan debt forgiveness 4. Ways to get money out of politics 5. Amendment of the U.S. Constitution if necessary to change the current political system
From the Tea Party:
- Identify constitutionality of every new law
- Reject emissions trading
- Demand a balanced federal budget
- Simplify the tax system
- Audit federal government agencies for waste and constitutionality
- Limit annual growth in federal spending
- Repeal the healthcare legislation passed on March 23, 2010
- Pass an 'All-of-the-Above' Energy Policy
- Reduce Earmarks
- Reduce Taxes
So, out of those ingredients, how do the two movements make a Thanksgiving dish palatable for the rest of the American people?1. Student Loans. This seems to be the major driving political stance of the Occupy Wall Street movement. Like any debt, seven years should be the duration of the obligation. This coincides with both the Christian teaching and original Constitutional law.
The major driving political stance of the Tea Party movement is whether laws pass Constitutional muster. The U.S. Constitution, based on Biblical law, provided the same seven-year guideline before it was manipulated by progressives, bankers, and industrialists for their benefit to the detriment of society as a whole.
Regardless of whether you are Christian or not, the wisdom behind the seven-year debt forgiveness is that if a person believes that there is no light at the end of the tunnel, his or her desire to fully contribute to the tribe [archaic], country, or economic production diminishes, depriving society of the full contribution of that individual which outweighs the debtor's obligation to the creditor.
Also related to student loans are administrative wage garnishments. These proceedings, along with all other administrative hearing and quasi-judicial bodies, should be abolished.
Any question of law should remain with the Courts, which is in line with the Constitutional principle of separation of powers.
2. Money out of Politics / Crony Capitalism: This is the closest goal of both the OWS and Tea Party movements because money corrupts politics so that a particular company or industry can cause legislation that would give it an unfair advantage over competitors, other industries, and consumers (the modern version of paying for an indulgence).
A new constitutional amendment does not need to be added to cause this change. The U.S. House of Representatives should be comprised of one representative for every 30,000 people as it was originally structured in the U.S. Constitution.
This apportionment ratio had remained in effect until 1929 when Congress simply chose to ignore the requirement (just when the elites had crushed the global economy).
The smaller districts would require less money to be spent on campaigns and would bring at least one branch of government closer to the people as it was originally intended. 3. Taxes
The Tea Party wants to reduce taxes and simplify the tax code. OWS wants tax hikes on the wealthiest. Both could be accomplished by a tax on consumption (a national sales tax on goods and services) with no exemptions instead of the current income tax code which is designed to support crony capitalism and allows the elite to avoid taxes through the use of off-shore corporations.
While much debate has circulated lately about U.S. corporate income tax hurting America's competitiveness, another area where U.S. policy increases the cost of U.S. labor is also hurting American competitiveness.
For example, the costs of unemployment insurance, workman's compensation, social security, medicare, state income tax and federal income tax that is associated with each hour of labor costs could range from 35% to 50% depending on which state a business is located. So the manufacturing of any consumer good that is made in the U.S. will have around a 7%-15% production tax baked into the final retail price (depending on the amount of labor associated with the production of the good). This U.S. consumer good then has to sit on a shelf next to a foreign competitor's consumer good that does not have this production tax baked into the final retail price.
If however, the tax revenue came from the U.S. consumption of goods rather than the production of goods through the implementation of a national sales, U.S. manufacturers would have a level playing field to compete because imported goods would be taxed at the same rate as domestic. The sales tax would also fund unemployment insurance and workman's compensation.
Because the tax is derived on economic activity in the U.S., the elite would not be able to use off-shore corporations or foreign labor to avoid taxes.

These are most difficult times for most of us. No matter if you are out of work or if you are financially secure, many feel the same way. We now live in a system that is broken, yet not known to many as of this writing. I feel our country and our planet are on a course of disappointment and sadness for many years. You just cannot spend your way to prosperity with debt, and with useless politicians, who worry about their 3% Cost of Living Allowance and how to get re-elected, nothing will change.
And it is partly our fault. Maybe here at Zero Hedge we over react. I don't know. I thought, that by now we would have 2 million+ marching on Washington, for our Spring, demanding change, a better and decent life for our children. But nothing, a few thousand good souls in various cities voicing their outrage, a pompous idiot Gingrich voicing his worthless opinion with no understanding of the message. A Congress that cannot even agree on which bathroom to use, much less how to save a nation.
A President hell-bent on getting re-elected no matter how much debt it takes. A planet full of greed, selfishness and deceit. It has to end at some point and we have to return to sanity, or else it will all fall apart for a long time.
At least here, we are mostly of like minds, we complain, we bitch, yet we all want a system that works for the people.
But on this day of Thanksgiving, lets not forget our family, friends or significant other, the reason for us being here. While no nation has ever prospered by creating debt, also no nation has ever prospered without hope. I served in the Air Force for 24 years, and I fought in a useless political war. My one wish for our military is to bring them all home, from over 120 countries, it is time to pass the baton to others, we cannot afford, or do we desire to police the world. If our absurd govt. really wants to support our wonderful troops, then bring them HOME!

Merkel and Sarkozy back treaty changes The leaders of Germany and France on Thursday pledged to press ahead with greater fiscal union among the members of the eurozone as they seek to stem the sovereign debt crisis engulfing the single currency.
Angela Merkel and Nicolas Sarkozy said they would propose over the next few days modifications to the treaties to improve eurozone governance and ensure greater integration and convergence among the 17 countries of the currency bloc.
In some of her most forceful comments to date, Ms Merkel, a strong advocate of moves to enforce greater budgetary discipline among the eurozone’s members, said: “We must take steps towards a fiscal union.”
The leaders of the eurozone’s biggest economies were speaking after a mini-summit in Strasbourg with Mario Monti, whose unelected Italian government was installed last week after the fallout from Italy’s debt woes toppled Silvio Berlusconi.
They did not specify what treaty changes they had in mind but Germany has been pushing hard for mandatory penalties for governments that break rules on debt, deficits and other fiscal measures – rules Berlin wants to see enforceable in court.
