Thanksgiving Day Open Thread

With Europe set to close shortly, it just may be the case that the relentless headline barrage of rumors, lies and other European sourced imports will cease at least for a few hours. So while we are awaiting to see what Syria and Iran's (not to mention Russia and China's) response will be to the latest Arab League 24 hour ultimatum, here is today's open thread to kill the boredom until we get a chance to express our thanks for all the selling opportunities about to unfold, and until we get to find out if one can buy that completely unnecessary 9th plasma (for 50% off because in America spending money is saving) while dumping BTPs from a WalMart store at 3am in the morning.

Arka, Happy Thanksgiving and thanks for your opinion. Let me share mine. Fuck the bulk of the OWS children. I am (by my own choice) prostituting myself out as Chief Engineer on an Offshore Supply Vessel in the Gulf of Mexico, for all of the holiday season, to pay 50K in taxes. I wish it were that easy. I'm thinking of moving north (far) because in spite of my experience and education (not basket weaving) I can't find work. I'm either over or under qualified. It really is sucking.

In Canada, I have very little sympathy for the OWS movement (someone needs to remind them that we do have universal health care.) In the States, I'm somewhat more sympathetic. Just from a pragmatic economic point of view, it is better to have a healthy middle class. And from what I've seen in the States, the message from OWS is get money out of politics. Student loans may be a problem but also just may be the educational system. When I first moved to the States I met someone with the same educational credentials as mine - honestly I don't know how she finished high school. Private school - her parents bought the education.

At it best OWS is injecting some needed debate into where the world is going and what are its values. Not bad questions to ponder.
