Time To Trim Q1 GDP Forecasts: Boehner Expects House To Reject Payroll Tax Extension

Tyler Durden's picture

As we noted earlier, in his live statement, Boehner just said that the House will reject the Senate-proposed 2 month payroll tax extension, via BBG:

  • HOUSE SPEAKER BOEHNER EXPECTS HOUSE TO DISAGREE WITH SENATE
  • BOEHNER: 'IT'S TIME TO STOP THE NONSENSE' ON SHORT EXTENSION
  • BOEHNER: HOUSE PASSED A 'REASONABLE BILL' ON TAX-CUT EXTENSION
  • BOEHNER SAYS HOUSE WILL VOTE ON SENATE PAYROLL TAX BILL TONIGHT
  • BOEHNER SAYS HE EXPECTS HOUSE-SENATE CONFERENCE ON TAX CUT

It is time to cut those Q1 GDP forecast as time is running out, and the GOP obviously is hell bent on making the Obama economy as ugly as possible heading in the election year.

Speaking of drones, here's how the Iranian alledgely took down the US drone using a man in the middle exploit, and jamming.  It's quite ingenious.

I've wondered if something like that was possible. Wireless remote warfare is fatally flawed. Expect all those drones to be sold to US law enforcement agencies and used on you, as they will be worthless to the military soon.

So I guess Tyler must think the democrat's intentions are virtuous?

I am surprised to see him impugn one side's motivation and not the other's. I guess this Tyler is a democrat.

I guess the republicans could not possibly be standing on principle here, unlike the democrats.

The republicans are actively planning to harm the economy and the democrats are trying to save it.

A little thin skinned this morning, aye?

I think the point is that either team remains quite content to do the 'wrong thing' for the country if it gives them a leg up in the next election. He is merely pointing out a good example of short-termism thinking on the part of our politicians to the detriment of our society as a whole.

TD is correct, nothing would please the Red team more than to be able to keep the economy in the gutter during Obummers re-election campaign.

I wonder if we will see Boehner shed some more crocodile tears on TV over this...after which he and Obama can retreat for the weekend to Bohemian grove and plot out ways to fuck everybody heading into the new year.

think either of these parasites give a shit about something as quaint and outdated as elections?

all they care about is serving their masters who are one and the same, so when they no longer have to be inconvenienced by dealing with the surfs their descent from on high will be a gentle glide down under parachutes of platinum.

politicians in Washington are not voted into and out of office they are hired and dismissed, we just so happen to still be laboring under the delusion that our vote is for any other choice than teleprompter A or teleprompter B.

personally I could give a shit less what Boehner thinks or says about any given subject, he's an empty suit just like Obama and just hearing either of their names and seeing their faces on TV instills the urge to vomit.

but what really is disheartening is when Americans argue over which one, which party is right or wrong, neocons and libtards, red vs blue, R vs D, it's all just a game to the PTB's and so many Americans just keep playing along no matter how many times, in how many different ways they prove over and over that there is no difference.

we get the government we deserve and sadly I believe that will again prove true in 2012.

The GOP passed something closer to what BHO asked for (extending one year) than what the Democrats passed in the Senate.

In this instance not sure how the GOP can be viewed as trying to make the Obama economy worse.  Plus the GOP threw in a jobs producing pipeline to boot.  The one year payroll tax cut is generally a bad idea (I mistakenly thought SS was already broke), but the GOP passed it at BHO's request.

The House passed what the President asked for (one year extension).  It was the Senate who blocked passage of the one year House bill by changing the one year to two months (which is absurd tax policy).  The Senate then decided to recess so they could not work it out in joint conference committee.
