Turkey Claims Syria Fired On Second Turkish Jet, Says "Act Won't Go Unpunished", Has Invoked NATO Articles 4 And 5

Tyler Durden's picture

At this point even those who have never heard of the Gulf of Tonkin know where this is headed:

  • SYRIAN ACT 'WON'T GO UNPUNISHED,' TURKEY'S ARINC SAYS
  • SYRIAN ACT 'HOSTILE,' 'COLD-BLOODED,' ARINC SAYS
  • SYRIA SHOT DOWN TURKISH JET WITHOUT WARNING, NULAND SAYS
  • TURKEY INVOKED ARTICLES 4 & 5 FOR NATO MEETING, ARINC SAYS
  • TURKEY TO PROCEED AGAINST SYRIA USING LEGAL RIGHTS, ARINC SAYS
  • TURKISH JET SHOT DOWN IN INTERNATIONAL AIRSPACE, ARINC SAYS

And yet:

  • TURKISH JET 'MISTAKENLY' ENTERED SYRIAN AIRSPACE, ARINC SAYS
  • TURKISH JET WAS IN SYRIAN AIRSPACE ONLY 5 MINUTES, ARINC SAYS

Just the tip, eh?

And finally this, which makes it all too clear what Hillary Clinton's endgame here is:

  • Turkish deputy PM says Syria has also fired on a Turkish search-and-rescue plane -AP

And from Reuters:

Turkey said on Monday that Syrian forces had fired at a second Turkish plane which was searching for an F-4 reconnaissance jet shot down by Syria last week, but the second plane was not brought down.

Deputy prime minister Bulent Arinc told a news conference that Turkey would protect itself, within the framework of international law, against what it called Syria's "hostile action" of downing its warplane last week.

He said at the end of a seven-hour cabinet meeting on the incident that Syria's downing of the reconnaissance jet would not go unpunished.

Was that jet over Syrian airspace for "only 5 minutes" too?

"TURKISH JET WAS IN SYRIAN AIRSPACE ONLY 5 MINUTES, ARINC SAYS"

5 minutes at high speed (600 MPH+) is a whole lot of territory covered. Even more so if the Turkish jet was supersonic.

Oh yeah, even the idiot media has shown the pictures of the missionaries shot down.

Let's be clear though, they were just looking for drug smugglers.  Well Syria is looking for planes/drones that might be

a) arming a foreign led insurrection

b) launching airstrikes against it

c) probing it's defenses for when TSHTF

d) launch dronestrikes against it

e) other

The fact is Syria is ACTUALLY facing foreign, Queen, and Saudi sponsored aggression to overthrow their gov't.  Syria ACTUALLY has a reason to be paranoid.  I think they saw how Libyia went down.  Losing control of it's airspace doomed it.  So no, Syria is actually a little bit smarter.  The world a whole lot dumber.

Meanwhile we have a policy to shoot private planes down that we suspect to be drug smuggling that isn't doing any of the above points.  Last we all checked the F-4 was at one time considered a warplane.

Hookup Hillary with a harness and tether to a drone and let her do some first hand reconaissance of Syrian Airspace.

Maybe send in a second drone to video Hillary on her "fact finding" mission.

Ground fire from light and medium AA guns brought it down. The video does not show the plane under fire, but the gunfire can be heard. It is both light and medium. The splash the plane makes CAN be seen on the video and people on the beach cheer.

This proves it was low and very near the shoreline. Otherwise the AA guns would never reach far enough to score a kill.

Turkey HAD to know what they were doing. They just didn't expect Syrian radar guided AA to be good enough to kill a low fast jet. Wrong!

Sign on the blimps:

Turkey: Syria's jet downing an attack on whole NATO

Turkey said Monday it would push NATO to consider Syria's downing of a Turkish jet as an attack on the whole military alliance.

This may give Russia a chance to grab a nice warm water port on the Black Sea...

"The early Russo-Turkish Wars were mostly sparked by Russia’s attempts to establish a warm-water port on the Black Sea, which lay in Turkish hands. The first war (1676–81) was fought without success in Ukraine west of the Dnieper River by Russia, which renewed the war with failed invasions of the Crimea in 1687 and 1689. In the war of 1695–96, the Russian tsar Peter I the Great’s forces succeeded in capturing the fortress of Azov. In 1710 Turkey entered the Northern War against Russia, and after Peter the Great’s attempt to liberate the Balkans from Ottoman rule ended in defeat at the Prut River (1711), he was forced to return Azov to Turkey. War again broke out in 1735, with Russia and Austria in alliance against Turkey. The Russians successfully invaded Turkish-held Moldavia, but their Austrian allies were defeated in the field, and as a result the Russians obtained almost nothing in the Treaty of Belgrade (Sept. 18, 1739)."

Greece should get some AA, maybe give Russia a call they would probably be glad to help.

In the game of chess, if you just remain passive and let your opponent take your pieces one by one, you lose and you die. You have to make moves your oppenent wasn't expecting and win by careful controlled advancing. (Does everyone agree on this?)

I recommend Russia make a lightning advance and completely re-take Kosovo for the Serbs, bitch-Slap any HATO Troops who defend it, and then see what fake ass tough guys accross the table do.

If they don't do something, they will get no respite until Russia basically is disappeared.

Yea, they already have the big boy, S-300 soon to be S-400.  And the Patriot PAC III too.  Sooooo, if they thought the evil Turks were doing anything other than what the vast majority of semi-hostile states do to each other (shadow their lines of control on occasion to include airspace violations to test reaction times and let themselves get intercepted by the other guy's interceptors to get happy snaps for the squadron bar wall), they easily could engage and destroy them.  Instead, they "light them up" with the fire control radar and issue vector commands on guard freq, just like everyone else.

Just ask some Alaska Command flunkie about Bears and Blackjacks.  Happens all the f-ing time with no flaming wrecks in territorial waters.

Why does everything have to be binary here?  Can't Turkey be up to no good and Syria still be shitheads too?

Copy all.  I just don't buy into the "the enemy of my enemy is my friend" flavor of the argument.  I can see the rationale behind the concept of collusion to produce a desired end-state (Ie. another Gulf of Tonkin sacrificial lamb to ignite a desires war).  I can see the "qui bono?" (Israeli desires to take away Iran's NE ally and open a potential air corridor).  Got it all.  Still, I don't have to embrace the Allawite mob running that place.  The hard part is translating that into policy.  The closest I can articulate is "f-ck 'em...let them (the Sunnis getting fisted) deal with it themselves...no Western forces should lift a finger or enter their territory to fight their battle."

Z'ers on the real world.... sound like a bunch of progressive educated latte drinkers who weigh in around a buck twenty five and live a very angry life in their parent's basement...

All these "libertarian" posts remind me of those ignorant, self-absorbed, idealist pacifists that went to Iraq to stand in front of the innocent to be in solidarity with them and protect them.

Look kids, everyone knows when it comes to geopolitics it's Kabuki Theater.

The ONLY question that matters is which side of the dinner table do you want to be on.

Because if you dont choose a side, and there is a right side, you're on the table or hiding under it.

If you think the West is so F'd up, well then move to those other paradises of anarchistic freedom.

But I bet you wont find any latte.

They are lucky that the Turks haven't flattened the site that launched the missiles, along with half a dozen other sites, just to prove the point.

The Syrians had better ground and center PDQ. The Turkish Army will reach down their collective throat, grab them by the appendix, and yank them inside out.

Yeah like Russia will risk war with NATO over Syria. What is likely going to happen is the West will partiton Syria. There will be an Alawite/Christian nation at the alawite core coast. This new alawite nation will be a russian protectorate. The Kurds take the northeast. The sunnis take the rest of Syria. The west and Israel will like it because it will prevent the rise of a Muslim Brotherhood-controlled Sunni Islamist Syria emerging as a new challenge to Israel and the West. Russia will like it because they can keep their base and have a nation under their protection. Saudi Arabia will like it because its breaks Iran's shia crescent. Also Iraqi sunnis will love it because they can have a sanctuary to wage a separatist war against Malaki. Iran and shia Iraq will be pissed of course.

When we talk of NATO who are we really talking about besides the US (and, well, Turkey)?

When austerity is smacking the shit out of all the Euro countries I'd hardly think that dragging them into another US war is going to go over well with their populations.  Like it's not enough to have the military+banking complex loot you, but to then force you to send your young off to fight US wars under some BS NATO banner?  Right... sure way to guarantee that the EU countries catch fire.
