Why not have emergency happy clappy press conferences everyday? Look at how the "markets" react to them, this is the new means of wealth creation. To heck with manufacturing.

Record moral bankruptcy. So, that whole Thelma and Louise schtick- driving the car over the cliff? The Dems actually saw your bet and raised.
Now we get nothing, everybody hates everyone, the can is kicked 50 yards down the road and the United States is totally ungovernable.

Correct. They've succeeded in uping the stakes big time.

It ain't just a financial crisis anymore: now it's political, global and strategic

Go, Republicans, Go.  Yippeeee. I love those Republicans.  Man-Oh-man, Boehner, Cantor, Reed, Obama, those are some classic Republicans.  Thats how you run a country.  I wish I could vote for Republicans everyday of my stinkin' life, which, of course, would then become much shorter.  Oh, I hate the fuckin' Democrats too.  Hahahahahahah.

Dear Mr. Speaker of the House,

For the act of lying to the American people about the so called "spending cuts" in the current debt ceiling bill upon the House floor, I protest.  You now preside over the largest debt limit increase in the nation's history.  You have failed your constituents and the nation.

I hereby call upon you to resign in your capacity as Speaker of the House.

Respectfully,

Cdad

Don't mind at all, sdm.  I only hope that the brotherhood is hitting the link and sending messages of protest and discontent...by the thousands.  It matters.

This bill will do nothing to remedy the economic nightmare unfolding in this country...and, in fact, will worsen things.

And the greater American Depression roles on...

All of em can be counted to sell out each and every time and I dont want to hear from the Tea Party cheerleaders, what a pile of BS that all is.

as has been sugested, this spectacle has discredited/isolated/marginalized  the tea party

and boener would sell his firstborn for that

nextup

you'll see a few of the true Tea Partiers go independent very soon

and in due course a few of them will be formally investigated by DHS for non American activities

Mon, 08/01/2011 - 16:07 | 1514209 mmlevine

I will respectfully disagree

The Tea Party forced the establishment into the light of day.  Without them, the debt limit would have been raised without a mention in the press.  At least now, we can all see how truly disgusting the process of politics is in the USA.

Hehe. They really managed to convince you, huh?

In 1995 the loud screaming over the debt ceiling forced an actual government shutdown. And stuffy ole Newt was at the GOP insitgator. Did it really make any difference? Of course not. It's entertainment for your benefit, so you don't focus on what their left hand is doing with all that fat cash

Getting easier and easier to trade these markets. Made some nice change shorting the pre market pop. (Actually left my shorts on over the weekend).

Sold out of my 2x etf's and then watched the steady market rise northward. Will wait out tomorrow as the data will be bad but not terrible. Then I will short on Thursday for the negative NFP on Friday.

And I don't even have a high frequency algo plugged into the NYSE!

Oh BTW-

I just read an article saying the job carnage on Wall Street is just beginning as there is NO trading volume. They are hoping it gets better but it won't. Days like this will ensure the little guy stays away.

Mon, 08/01/2011 - 16:26 | 1514282 Caviar Emptor
Caviar Emptor's picture

Yup. There are no investors. 90% of trading volume is not even held over night. 75% of total is "Program Trading" ie algos and HFT bots making believ and keeping up appearences by trading back and forth to one another. The rest is daytrading, which can swing anyway the wind blows for a nickel.

Wall Street has avoided downsizing because of all the QE and bailout ie you and me and our great grand kids funding them. Hedge funds are shrinking and as you know retirement assets held in 401Ks an mutual funds are shrinking. Trim Tabs had it right.

Nope, those Wall Street guys are just living on reds and vitamin c and cocaine. And borrowed time

Joe Biden accuses tea party of having “acted like terrorists” in fight over raising debt limit:

And although I have no sympathy for the tea bags, democrats have acted like deers caught in the headlight. Utter morons.

Mon, 08/01/2011 - 16:45 | 1514337 sgt_doom

Oh wow!  So Joey bin Biden, our humble VP, now likens the Tea Party to Julian Assange, whom he recently called an "international terrorist."

Hmmmm...interesting to watch the play in debt speculation going back and forth between US debt (those pesky Treasuries thingies) and Greek debt.

Naked CDSes, anyone????

(But VP Joey bin Biden was correct on Mubarrak of Egypt though, when he said HE WAS NOT A DICTATOR!

As we all well know, Mubarrak was simply a hugable Uncle Wiggly type.)

The tea party does not control the house or senate or the fake in chief.

they have started a movement that can turn on the elite.

they are doing what a few men can do..no more.
those who deride them do the work for the elite to weaken them.

"The winner is the Tea Party. They have changed the debate in the country. I think they ought to do what George Aiken advocated in the worst of days of the Vietnam War, declare victory and go home. There will be another fight, a year from now. Obama is losing it. And I think that's where the big payoff will be and that's when the country will decide what everyone wants to do about debt and also about the size of government." – Charles Krauthammer Fox News July 31, 2011

The funny thing is that the wealthy in this cuontry should be embracing the Tea Party.  Anyone in favor of smaller government (Keep your hands out of my poocket!) is really playing to the wealthy, despite having been elected by joe six pack with a conscience and an idea of what he thinks this country should stand for.

Except that if you trace the origins of wealth for the majority of the hereditary wealthy, you will find they got this way from either an original royal land grant or a government contract. Not just because of the value of the contract, but banks readily lent against the security of a U. S. Government contract. Will banks continue to do so? Will lucrative government contracts dry up?  Do the hereditary wealthy think that the transactional economy can preserve their wealth?

John 'Boner' and Dingy Harry have been hiding one thing in their deal. The FICA cuts and the Bush Tax cuts will expire. Taxes will go up.

Guess who will be re-relected or a lame duck? Obama will veto any attempt to re-instate them.
