Watch The Latest Attempt To Occupy Wall Street (On A Weekend?) Live

Tyler Durden's picture

If there is one thing America has had a lot of, it is (failed) attempts to make a political statement by "occupying" Wall Street, although how anyone makes a "statement" on a weekend, when all the trading on Wall Street is done out of Chicago and Mahwah (and not on Saturday), and all the actual capital decisions are made out of midtown (and Shanghai) is a little confusing. Today, Operation EmpireStateRebellion, for whom this is neither the first, nor the last attempt to organize an improvized rebellion, has proceeded with its latest such statement, which will come and go and achieve nothing, as unfortunately the welfare and entitlement society of the US is ingrained far too deeply fo anyone to actually willingly give up on their paper 201(k)s and Social Security benefits, no matter how much of an underfunded ponzi they may be. The only time something, anything, can happen in the US is when that monthly retirement fund, annuity report or Schwab statement shows $0.00 in the bottom line for everyone (middle class that is, the others will have long since converted their paper wealth into physical). Not a second before. That said we do wish them all the best. Those willing to watch this weekend's gathering of idealists can do so at the webcast (with commercial interruptions) below.

Crowd size looks decent. Have to start somewhere. The people out there, yes even on a weekend, are light-years ahead of all the slobs watching college football right now. God bless them.

And remember, it only takes one flaming fruit vendor to spark a real revolution.

Occupy Wall Street on a weekend? Why not protest Halloween on Easter? Its not that they don't deserve to be picketed against but how about doing it when they are not out in the Hamptons? These guys need to organize better and get in someone's face to be effective. They certainly would not have cut it in the 60's and early 70's. At least get arrested today to earn your first merit badge.....

Wall Street isn't going anywhere, nor is DC or Midtown. Perhaps some will choose to form a camp and keep it occupied. So, don't just be an internet tough guy; get off your ass, throw on your merit badge vest, and show these kids how it's done. Make Tecumseh Sherman jealous.

But Conrad seriously, wouldn't you rather meet some nice kid in his 20's who has no debt of any kind, some savings in PM's(doesn't have to be much, counts for awareness) and a decent attitude toward work and life?

There's your revolt right there...

Sat, 09/17/2011 - 17:57 | 1680618 Prometheus418
Prometheus418's picture

Right.

Sorry you're so ineffective, but keep that brush to yourself.

I've got three main fronts, and I spend almost all my time keeping them rolling.  The first is meme study and creation, which is "ticking away safely on our keyboards."  Where better than here, where the discussion is continuous and relatively focused, to mine for precious nuggets of information and emerging slogans and memes?

The second is the repackaging and direct injection of those memes into people who actually have skills, knowledge and the ability to implement effective action- that actually does risk my job and social status every day of my life, and takes a lot of stressful and delicate manouvering to achieve.  Instead of sitting on streetcorners like a homeless person and chanting trite slogans at people who don't care, I risk everything to whisper directly in the ears of powerbrokers in the military/industrial complex.

The third is neighboorhood co-ordination between "Joe Six-pack," the militia groups, the local government and the local police force.  I don't care what anyone thinks about it, I just know that my town now has a plan, and we will not be an easy target.

I don't know what background most ZH'er have, but I studied philosophy and mathematics- not communistic protesting.  I want this shit to actually change, not just hang out with a bunch of kids who want to get laid and feel good about themselves.  If and when the quiet time ends, and it comes to open warfare, I will be there- locked, loaded and ready to fire.  Until then, any movement that expects to succeed needs not only a platform of ideals and demands, but also support from those who have power, and that is what a real revolution needs to be developing now- not just flailing about to be either ignored or arrested.

If Anonymous is half of what they claim to be, they need to do what they do well- harvest information and use it to produce slick viral propiganda.  That's what will help- and their premature ejaculation with these sad and lackluster protests is just hurting their cause.  If the person or group that is creating their videos can move away from organizing, and towards education, the protests will develop on their own.

(I am only mad at them because I care- I'm glad they're involved, but they need to be better if they want to be useful.)

This is why I constantly try to get people to dive more into political and economic theory. Very painful change is coming and the vast majority of people have ZERO idea what they want other than to keep living in fantasy land. If America stands a chance at surviving this Statist coup, there will have to be intelligent leaders. The socialists have been at this for a long time. They have the infrastructure and the know-how, and now that they have fully absorbed the D party, they have half of the population, unknowingly or otherwise, backing their sick agenda(no, the R party idiots aren't much better). The Patriots have a lot of catching up to do, fast.

Sat, 09/17/2011 - 16:11 | 1680357 DoChenRollingBearing
DoChenRollingBearing's picture

Indeed.  Green

The Socialists and the Statists are getting us closer to a goal they long sought: THEIR control of the means of production and wealth generation. Agree that they now own the D party, also agree that the Rs aren't much better (14 cents better, maybe).

And I agree again that something really ugly is coming that most people in our country are not ready for.

But, even if the right Patriots step up (Ron Paul, anyone?), there is NO WAY to avoid a lot of pain brought on from the years of corruption and debt.

Exactly cpgone----for all that divides us, the one common root cause problems is the bankers, yet, ignorance and apathy live on.   Perhaps if we dealt with the root cause of the problem----WALL STREET and restored free market capitalism we would not have so much rage in this country.  We have so many different people fighting against each other and the root cause, the bankers, and their marketing department, the media, laugh all the way to the bank,   I think the following two videos sum it up quite nicely and should be required viewing for every citizen allowed to vote:

That second video is the single best video I've ever seen. I can't accurately describe how fucking awesome it is. Everyone should watch it. Required dinner chatter. Required Friday night topic. Until your friends are sick of you talking about it.

Thank you for sharing!

I will donate to those guys. Arrrr that video rocks! Puts all the feelings and knowledge to film. My wife went to shop groceries and of course something made in (not this country), walked out as I started to watch it. It was a cartoon even! It will be forced viewing from start to finish next half hour we are together and not obligated. Thank you again.

Fucking rocked!!!!! Mandatory viral spread now! This is maximum info in minimum attention span time. I'm not sure if I've been clear how I feel here, if you're not crystal clear please reread this post.

Oh and while I'm on this stupid soapbox, if you don't understand that your use of bonded instruments and the taking of the benefits offered by the .gov obligates you to the national debt, then you may want to learn about your individual sovereignty and why you're probably a corporation yourself. If you can ever get debt free and destroy all the seemingly mandatory social contracts that bind you via equity attachments, the product of your labor will no longer be subject to what everyone calls an "income tax", the most feared and misunderstood tool in their chest.

Fucking Awesome Video !!!!! THANK YOU

What you can do is try to educate our ignorant populace that we DO NOT HAVE FREE MARKETS anymore and unless they get up off their Ass and stop watching sports center, pretty soon NOBODY will have a job.   The problems we face in this country was born in 1913 at Jekyll Island, but picked up pace once computer technology gave the banksters the ability to control local markets like the mob once controlled Vegas.  Pretty soon, we will all be 10 cent an hour (or 1 Trillion Zimbabwe dollar) serfs and whores to the globalist system all controlled by the banksters.

While I disagree with most of the values today's protestors stand for, I am united in my hatred towards Wall Street.  We can disagree on free markets vs. socialism, but right now, we have fascism, and pretty soon everyone will be broke and dependent on the government.  To fix our problems, we have to start with fixing the fraud and corruption on Wall Street and in our government.  From there, we can restore free markets and let the ingenuity of America once again make us the envy of the world.

It's worthwhile to carry one coin with you for show-and-tell.  Depending on your audience, ASEs or 90% dollars might be better- try to estimate whether the people you are talking to are more nostalgic (in that case, show the dollar- the old date and tarnish on them is magick) or "new is better" types (in that case, show an Eagle- it's not a bad idea, if you have any talent for prestidigitation, to try and catch the light and flash it in their eyes as you pull it out.)

A lot of people talk, but until the reality is presented, most let it go in one ear and out the other.  I also carry a one hundred trillion dollar Zimbabwe banknote, in case the conversation takes a turn towards hyperinflation.  Neither the coins nor the note take up much space, and in a pinch, the coins might even get you out of a jam.

I've also been pricing my side-hustles in silver for the past year.  I have a little cabinet shop in my basement, as well as a forge in my garage, and do some small jobs for people from time to time.  Instead of writing the contracts in dollars, I now write them in terms of ozs, and tell any potential customer where the coins can be purchased.  Since I don't need the money from the side work, I am able to turn people away if they insist on paying with paper money.

Spot on Ugrev-----many will take advantage of America's problems just as they did during the 2008 election.  Notice how so many countries loved Obama?  Because they knew he would not deal with the problems that we face.  The rest of the world wants America to fail, but in the end, whether we fix our problems are up to us, and honestly, I am not optimistic because our nation is really ignorant about the root causes of our problems.  Those who "think" they understand the problems are focused on left vs. right, but in the end, the problems root cause is Wall Street----fix that, you fix America, plain and simple.  Prosecute fraud, eliminate the Fed, restore sound money.  It really is simple but the politicians that have the courage to stand up (Ron Paul) are dismissed by the mainstream media because the bankers control the media.

Exactly----the system our founding fathers set up is the envy of the world----FREE MARKET CAPITALISM.  What we have now is revolving door fascism, widespread corruption, accounting fraud, and insider dealings that are NEVER prosecuted.   It really sends a bad message to our youth when the CEO's of corporations can steal millions through accounting fraud and insider self-dealing and then buy off the justice department, yet, if someone steals a pack of gum, they go to jail.

The fraud, corruption, and inside dealing on Wall Street is destroying this country. IF we would just fix that, the free market would fix the rest of it.

Sir, I don't think most of the people here are cynical in a bad way.  The reality is like it or not, most people are just too apathetic and ignorant of what is going on to make a difference.  They will continue to vote for the same politicians that the media tells them to vote for ---- both left and right and the problems will just get worse.  To fix America, you have to fix Wall Street and Banking.  You have to get rid of the revolving door and actually have regulators like the SEC who prosecute insider trading, accounting fraud, etc.  Most of the sheeple HAVE NO IDEA why their 401k's keep going down----it isn't lack of growth, but rather, the parasites throughout our system who have figured out that they can "feed" off of the nation’s savings.

No, there is no cynicism, just realism!

anyone planning direct action at wall street would not want their pictures taken and recorded by the fbi at some event like this.

the fbi will waste plenty of money and human resources chasing and 'investigating' these subversives. so ....

in a very real way, these protests are good because they keep the fbi busy enough to be distracted from more important actors.

i mean, this is how i see it. it's not like just because cointel pro was mostly bullshit, that there weren't legitimate subversive elements out there.

the more noise these guys make today, the more they are contributing smoke screen to what and who is doing real things against the powers that be.

Ron Paul will get my vote, but you can be sure--HE WILL NOT WIN because the media will NEVER ALLOW that to happen.  I hate to say it, but our populace is just too ignorant for that. They vote based on ignorance, emotion, hand outs, empty promises, and sound bites.   Most people do not even realize the Federal Reserve is a private banking cartel, and most certainly have NO CLUE why we have the problems we have.   I once wondered how the mainstream media could be so dishonest until I arrived on Wall Street and learned about the corruption there.  Once I understood Wall Street, everything else came together in perfect harmony.

For those of us that say "what can we do"---we can "waste our vote" on Ron Paul.  If by some miracle he does win, perhaps that will be all that it takes, if not, at least we know we tried and can honestly say we are not part of the ignorant sheeple that brought down this country due to apathy, ignorance, and "sports center"!

The media and the federal reserve do not have the real power in America.  The people still do.

So "the people still do" means that the people of America and the Congress just voted to give Europe Trillions more dollars of our childrens future taxes?  So the people have voted to allow the Federal Reserve to deliberately debase our currency for the benefit of the banks?  You don't know what you are talking about, and that Sir---IS THE PROBLEM.

Right on Tater.

Prancing around Wall Street being cool, looking for an excuse to smash up some stuff and get on tv is what is going on there.  They should be picketing CONgress and the White House.  The banksters took what was given them and ran with it and many Americans were complicit, lying on mortgage applications so they could buy houses they couldn't afford to flip in the hot market. I am fed up with it all from the stupid, illiterate Americans who couldn't make an effort to get educated and now want more from the government (meaning us) to the banksters on wall street and the gangsters in Wash. D. C.

In case you didn't know, like I didn't, "Mahwah" is the city in New Jersey about 30 miles from Chelsea/Manhatten that the NYSE moved their electronic stock exchange to:

http://datacenterpractice.com/new-york/high-frequency-trading-and-the-ny...

By Michael Mandel,on November 19th,2010

In the spirit of David’s post,I thought I would add a little more color on high frequency trading and the NYSE.  Since it seems that any reputable reporter discloses all possible conflicts when writing about a topic (not that I’m a reporter),I should note that Grubb &Ellis manages the NYSE’s new data center in Mahwah,NJ.

Here are some facts on that facility that are not well known (but I should note that they’re not confidential):

Trading began in Mahwah in August, effectively moving the hub of the financial markets from New York City,to New Jersey.   The total facility which was built-to-suit for the NYSE is about 400,000 sf.  Of that, there is a total of about 100,000 sf of  ”white space”divided into five 20,000 sf  ”pods.”Three of these pods are built-out,and the remaining two are planned for future expansion.

As the 60 minutes report noted, high frequency trading is a large driver in the New York metro area,as financial users seek incredibly low latency to market “matching engines.” Since the NYSE provides colocation space in their facility, the latency for high frequency traders is unmatched (no pun intended).  The NYSE is charging $950-$1,000 per kw per month for colocation space, nearly four times the going rate for colocation space in New Jersey and double the most expensive colocation facility in New Jersey –Equinix in Secaucus (which also caters to high-frequency traders). Additionally, the NYSE charges users for additional services that only it can offer, such as connection to SFTI (Secure Financial Transaction Infrastructure),RMG (Risk Management Gateway) and SuperFeed,a connection to major US markets through a managed service.

Advice to the occupiers on the organizers website:

4. Don't be afraid of stating the obvious; say simply, "You're shouting at me," or "You're hurting my arm"

6. Seek to befriend your opponent's better nature; even the most brutal and brutalized among us have some spark of decency which the nonviolent defender can reach.

7. Don't shut down in response to physical violence; you have to play it by ear. The best rule is to resist as firmly as you can without escalating the anger or the violence. Try varying approaches and keep trying to alter your opponent's picture of the situation.

good luck with those!

At least from Egypt/Tunisia they have re-discovered the secret to successful protests - come for the long haul....unlike the jolly anti-war demo we had in London before iraq2 where we all vented our middle-class outrage and had sandwiches and lemonade then patted ourselves on the backs and headed off home in time to catch our favorite shows on tv.
But The population of Britain did bring the economy and nearly the govt to it's knees once in recent memory...for more directly personal/selfish reasons than war in someone else's country.....when the price of gas was pushed too high....oh yes that was just the final straw for us! They blocked the refineries and boycotted gas stations etc took total control and fucked things right up...... the govt actually apologized later on when it was all over.
don't think our kids will have the resolve or enough numbers and support to stick this out though....not to mention there will prob be acts of infiltration and sabotage in the form of violence to justify cracking heads.

welfare and entitlement society of the US is ingrained far too deeply fo anyone to actually willingly give up on their paper 201(k)s and Social Security benefits, no matter how much of an underfunded ponzi they may be. The only time something, anything, can happen in the US is when that monthly retirement fund, annuity report or Schwab statement shows $0.00 in the bottom line for everyone (middle class that is, the others will have long since converted their paper wealth into physical).

Sorry, but I absolutely disagree with this statement. What Ponzi do you find in 401{k}? People have no choice as to put money into it but these are real money frequently matched by employers... And, yes, these are paper assets. But to  presume that everything goes to zero except for PM (physical) is essentiallyto  presume the total collapse of civilization.

Sorry, but those people who are hoarding the gold and do nothing else and assuming that they are smart assess will end up on pile of trash.

What makes you to believe that by taking such a primitive view you catch the quintessential wisdom of Universe?

Let me assure you that there are many more people who are smarter than that. These people define the progress of civilization not a bunch of primitive monkeys hoarding their bananas...

Yeah. Protest Wall Street on a Saturday. Wake me up when they start tearing down the FRBNY.

The banks and investment firms aren't the problem. They normally serve a very useful purpose in a Capitailst society. The problem is the protection that they receive from a government that has a monopoly on the use of coercion.

When I see people carrying banners that say "People Before Profits", I think of Socraqtes:

Hence it is not right to reproach anybody with being a lover of profit: for he who makes this reproach is actually a lover of profit himself.

Hundreds of thousands of anti-government protesters have taken to the streets of Israeli cities demanding "social justice." The rally has already been called the largest in the history of the Jewish state. According to local media, more than 400,000 Israelis took to the streets in cities across the country on Saturday night. More than 300,000 are said to be protesting in Tel Aviv near the Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's residence, and more than 100,000 demonstrated elsewhere, particularly in Haifa and Jerusalem.

Gershon Baskin, Israeli-Palestinian conflict analyst, says the social unrest amongst Israel's middle class is a strong sign that the country is heading in the wrong direction. Instead of financing settlements in the occupied territories to the tune of billions of dollars, Israel should be spending the cash on domestic construction and social programs.

George Soros, again from the voracious Mouth of Soros: this time god describes how he has had “a lot of fun” subverting governments and “disrupting” regimes deemed by god’s Marxist mind, “repressive.” Shucks, inevitably, folks are hurt, he says. But, “unintended,” George? Reeealyy?

His work in his words is to develop a “matrix” of “national foundations” with the one hand, and with the other “certain… specialized… activities….” As Glenn Beck has more than begun to explain and Van Jones has alluded, for us Americans, this has to do with the czar network, executive orders, legislation, and UN commitments undermining American Sovereignty, to (allegedly) clean up (perceived) messes — including messes fomented by Soros’ own certain… specialized… subversive… disruptive… activities….

To bad those messes hurt so many so much — and the authoritarian solution, even more. Oh well.

Do listen to this. Over and over again, if you need to. Catch his words in his identification of, depiction of, and intentions for the United States of America.

It usually begins with peaceful protest.

It's a measure of the depth and extent of the problem. It's growing by the day as fewer and fewer opportunities exist for entry into the economy, advancement and retirement. The one edge that plain folks have is numbers and passion. I think that as we pass the 3-year mark post-Lehman, there's less and less tolerance for promises like a "V-Shaped Recovery!" and "This Is Just A Soft Patch!". And nobody who's not quite wealthy has missed the effect of biflation on consumers and business. It's rotting out the core of American society. That's bad.

Please dig deeper on this protest

from Day of Rage website:  http://www.usdayofrage.org/pub...

Why protest?

Wall Street is a huge contributor to the political machine, which in turns enables Wall Street’s corporate plunder of our nation. Both the Democratic and Republican parties set the bankster agenda because of the MONEY. When we at US Day of Rage speak of ‘taking the MONEY out of politics’, we have no choice but to focus on the sources of the MONEY.

Bought by hard and soft dollars, disloyal, incompetent, and wasteful interests have usurped our nation’s civil and military power, spawning a host of threats to liberty and national security.

As Americans we may bang our head on other matters, but on this we surely agree. In a democracy: progressives; unions; conservatives; tea party; and unaffiliated Americans can govern and work things out. In a kleptocracy, controlled by the banksters, we cannot. We must stop their influence, their motives, and their tricks, from continuing to destroy our democratic republic, and together we can do it.

US Day of Rage (usdayofrage.org) demands that money be removed from the buying of politicians who feed the Wall Street beast. We demand that the resources of our nation no longer be used to coddle and benefit banksters and their minions. We demand that the US Government diligently reign in the parasitic destruction wreaked by Wall Street. We demand that our nation no longer be held hostage to ‘too big to fail’ banks. We demand that solutions be found that stop the Federal Reserve from stealing our future.

The American Revolution is alive and well. It’s a group of non-violent citizen nobodies who believe in the radical notion that Americans have a right to freedom of speech and the right to peaceable assembly, in deed the right to engage in politics through free and fair elections unsullied by disloyal, incompetent, and wasteful special interests that are destroying our democratic republic and preying on the resources and spirits of citizens.

These are (mostly) younger people (where the uprising generally starts) trying to make, collectively, a simple point, even if they cannot quite articulate exactly what it is.

Ridiculing the "disorganization" et al of this event seems quite shortsighted.

If you are disgusted with the state of affairs -- at the very least, give these people a break, and let them voice their opinions.

Ignore these events, or support these events, but ridicule for ridicule's sake seems pretty lame.

This is new stuff for America.
(It is a general breakdown, as opposed to specific offending policy/actions, as in 60's etc)

Like just about everything, the art of protesting is learned.

And your point is a good one, too, because nobody wants violence (sans some outliers of which I am not a member) -- all the more reason to support the non-violent efforts in the early stages.

More support = growth of such efforts = a point in time where ALL media will be FORCED to cover = pressure on govt to make changes before SHTF.

hahah, the 'arab' spring was just what happens when dictators don't have enough power to quell their population.

did anything come of the persian uprising 2 years ago? and you can bet the u.s. was supplying them with plenty of info and money.

so who do you think is going to help the u.s. citizens throw off their dictatorship? no one. and thus, it's going to be a very long and difficult road towards any real change. there will be some major breaking points before internal change happens.

pick and choose,....national bankruptcy, devaluation, a gold standard, more war, a major false flag domestic attack, a postiive revolutionary scientific discovery, a presidential or fed chairman assasination, a mass environmental dissaster bigger than katrina, a nuclear 'event', intelligent aliens making first contact...i dunno but something! feel free to add to the list of possible precursors to real change.

i'm not advocating here for any of these, and personally i would like to say i believe in 'democratic' change. but look, americans are morons, most willfully ignorant. that is indeed why the founding fathers did not make this a direct democracy but took measures to makes sure a layer of representatives could choose best for the 'people' (not realizing that corporations would one day be considered people)

but 'more of the same' dismal economic conditions aint going to cut it. japan has been doing that for 20 years and it seems like that can go on for quite a while. i'm looking for something a bit bigger than a mere proverbial 'straw' that breaks the camels back.

i was there watching, pretty pathetic affair in m y opinion. The socialists with red flags, chants of OUR STREETS, a woman with a sign 'SEX Workers against capitalism', one woman bare breasted.... at least there were some Ron Paul signs.

Now I understand why ZH wasn't mentioning it.

at least the cops made double time

That freedom of speech, demonstrated -- you describe it as "pathetic."

Then you add...

"at least there were some Ron Paul signs."

With due respect, that's a bit confusing.

I'd hazard a guess that Ron Paul was all at once quite proud to see free speech in action, and a little worried that his predictions of social unrest may be finding their green shoots.

Dismiss such efforts at your own risk. You may someday be caught on the wrong side of the fence.

WB7- thanks.

I've got to admit, I've often felt that your technical skills need a bit of polishing, but you do pull out more than a few gems.  Keep it up.

In 2003 there were massive protests around the world wrt the proposed invasion of Iraq. I was living in the States at the time but drove up to Montreal to protest my own government's complicity. Probably one of the largest protests in Montreal ever (and it was f***ing cold). But nothing changed. But for me what changed is the way I look at public protest (mostly ineffectual) and my relationship with government (somewhat .... more .... distant). Wish I had some answers but I don't.

This is a great start. Organized and peaceful. We need people in that neck of the woods to join the crowd. I understand that this protest is continuous, so just go if you have some free time.

TPTB can't say they were not warned in a peaceful manner. Unfortunately I believe nothing will change until there is violence. The protest will morph as the need arises. Keep up the pressure!

Civil unrest in America is a joke. Its organized, broadcast using social media and livestreaming which has commercials. Considering the millions of suffering people in USA, only a few hundred showed up and they all look like healthy rich kids who are looking for new people to smoke weed with.  Its also amazing, that they are only doing this on a weekend. I am sure this, like everything else in America, is about selling t-shirts and baseball caps. Most of the people there probably don't get whats really going on.
