Welcome To The Deja Vu Circle Of Hell: Greek Referendum Has Been Scrapped (This Time Maybe For Real)

Tyler Durden's picture

This time from AP:

  • GREECE BAILOUT REFERENDUM HAS BEEN SCRAPPED
  • PAPANDREOU SAYS WOULD NEVER PUT EURO AS REFERENDUM QUESTION
  • Officials close to Greek prime minister tell Associated Press bailout referendum has been scrapped

How close? And are they closer to their Forex frontrunning trading platform?

Seriously - No more... Please... We give up.

From AP:

Athens, Greece (AP) -- Two officials close to the Greek prime minister say he has scrapped his plan to hold a referendum on the latest European debt deal for Greece after the main opposition leader said would back it.

The two officials said George Papandreou made the comments during an emergency Cabinet meeting Thursday. One also said the premier would not resign despite mounting pressure, and would await the outcome of Friday's confidence vote in his government.

They spoke on condition of anonymity to disclose talks in the Cabinet meeting, being held in Parliament.

This should hardly be inspiring confidence in the markets and yet inexplicably the dow is up...everything is good news when reality is that at BEST the US is stable (and fairly poor) and EUROPE simply hasn't imploded YET (but is fast declining) and China/Hong Kong sit in the balance...this is the thing of higher markets...who is buying because all the big hedgies seem to be either sitting out short so is it just day traders and quants creating this upward momo?

I will be waiting until I see the results of the "vote" that will soon take place in Syntagma Square before I decide on the future of the referendum.

Greek readers, we would love to be enlightened. Please update us.

They are trying very hard to force the cancellation by keeping up the rumour pressure in the hope that it does the trick and not allow people to have a say in stopping bankster bailouts

Very sad, that the people of Greece are under the control of the EU and have no influence on their future.  Can anyone say Mafia?  NWO?  This should be a wake up call for those who believe in democrazy.

Sarkozy and Merkel are running out of lies. Like Iceland, Greece and Italy need to show the bankers the door.  Iceland defaulted and is now recovering. The bankers that took on the risky debt need to eat the losses.  It would be wrong for Geek, Irish, Spanish and Italian leaders to make the people IMF debt slaves.

Phhheww, that was close, almost let the people vote on their fate.  Thankfully, the bankers gotta hold of Pop, and of course know what is best for the Greek people.  There is absolutely no conflict of interest, none, zero.  Long live the oligarchs.  Long live crony capitalism.  Long live fascism.  It's amazing how the talking heads on CNBC unanimously hate the fact that Greece should be allowed to vote.

What incentive is there really to solve all this? There's more bang for the buck manipulating the news. Real solutions risk real pain and lowered markets.

Everything up in the air, with news that X will happen then news that X will not happen creates an endless parade of relief rallies. Not sure why there would be incentive to do anything else.

someone posted yesterday and I guess history does rhyme

The SS indulged their bloodlust on men, women and children alike. While homes and shops blazed around them like some hellish inferno, women were violated and those who were pregnant were stabbed in the guts. Small babies were bayoneted in their cribs. The village priest was beheaded.

By the time Hitler’s men had left the Greek village..

Is the Greek economy still functioning?  All I hear are the political headlines, but last I heard the state was shut down due to a nationwide strike.  Did that lift?  Is everyone back to work (those who still have jobs)?  If the man in the streets doesn't support the austerity and bailout and is willing to strike over it, then there's no point.  The politicians can argue all they want, but in a modern country if people aren't bought into the system, it can't run.  The referendum isn't for giving the people a voice.  The referendum is to get them to shut up.

Why should the Eurozone crisis be any different than any other bank panic in history? If it feels like deja vu,. it is more than just a strange feeling. Central banks are more like grave robbers than  guardians of public trust.
