this reporter is actually correct in saying that Gold is not really backed by anything - (except investor sentiment and consumer sentiment.) As the USD increases (percieved as save haven-safer than the Euro), shares in the market will also move higher as "investors" switch out of 'perceived' save havens and currency-hedges like bonds and Gold and Silver, back into more high-yielding riskier assets backed by the USD. next time the USD is being sold off again, 'Investors' will switch back into Gold and Bonds again and so on....
the trent is your friend and it is not wise to catch Gold-fever.

Late April 2011, the dollar starts rising from a cyclical low and simultanously stocks and commodites start retreating from a cyclical high. Very logical, very technical markets.
There is one big anomaly though and this is gold which had the audacity to rally about 20% against this new trend. This is very reckless behavior by this commodity and it has been punished for it but rather leniently as of now. I think it should accept the inevitable and hurry down to y-t-d low (around 1400) to join other commodities and then follow the rest of the herd down to lower levels.
