Mitt Romney – a man whose own father built cars and nurtured communities, and was one of the old-school industrial anachronisms pushed aside by the new generation's wealth grab – has emerged now to sell this make-nothing, take-everything, screw-everyone ethos to the world. He's Gordon Gekko, but a new and improved version, with better PR – and a bigger goal. A takeover artist all his life, Romney is now trying to take over America itself. And if his own history is any guide, we'll all end up paying for the acquisition.

We don't need to cut spending. The government can reduce the deficit by improving efficiency. People also forget that the debt is multigenerational. We don't need to pay down the debt now, as richer future generations will pay it down for us. To quote Professor Benedict S. Bernanke (current Federal Reserve chairman):
“If current trends continue, the typical U.S. worker will be considerably more productive several decades from now. Thus, one might argue that letting future generations bear the burden of population aging is appropriate, as they will likely be richer than we are even taking that burden into account.”
Benedict Bernanke. I like that name. It reminds me of Benedict Arnold - one of America's biggest traitors.
romney and obama they still wake up everyday and go to work. lie and cheat, but still work.
what did Ann Romney ever do in her life except to suck Romney off to live like a queen?????

more on Romney Gecko...
"In a typical private-equity fragging, Bain put up a mere $18 million to acquire KB Toys and got big banks to finance the remaining $302 million it needed. Less than a year and a half after the purchase, Bain decided to give itself a gift known as a "dividend recapitalization." The firm induced KB Toys to redeem $121 million in stock and take out more than $66 million in bank loans – $83 million of which went directly into the pockets of Bain's owners and investors, including Romney. "The dividend recap is like borrowing someone else's credit card to take out a cash advance, and then leaving them to pay it off," says Heather Slavkin Corzo, who monitors private equity takeovers as the senior legal policy adviser for the AFL-CIO.
Bain ended up earning a return of at least 370 percent on the deal, while KB Toys fell into bankruptcy, saddled with millions in debt. KB's former parent company, Big Lots, alleged in bankruptcy court that Bain's "unjustified" return on the dividend recap was actually "900 percent in a mere 16 months." Patnode, by contrast, was fired in December 2008, after almost four decades on the job. Like other employees, he didn't get a single day's severance.
I ask Slavkin Corzo what Bain's justification was for the giant dividend recapitalization in the KB Toys acquisition. The question throws her, as though she's surprised anyone would ask for a reason a company like Bain would loot a firm like KB Toys. "It wasn't like, 'Yay, we did a good job, we get a dividend,'" she says with a laugh. "It was like, 'We can do this, so we will.' "

Who Is The Smallest Government Spender Since Eisenhower? Would You Believe It's Barack Obama?
From Forbes, that bastion of far left Obama loving media <sarc/>
http://www.forbes.com/sites/rickungar/2012/05/24/who-is-the-smallest-government-spender-since-eisenhower-would-you-believe-its-barack-obama/
For those who will not face the truth by looking at the article it goes like this...
RAYGUN increased spending by 8.7% in his first term, the largest 4 year increase since WWII
Then BushCo Jr. 2nd term up 8.1%
Then BushCo Jr again first term, 7.3%
Then BushCo Sr up by 5.4%
After that we have RAYGUN second term at 4.9% increase
Then comes Clinton second and first terms at 3.9 and 3.2% respectively
Last is Obama at 1.4 which includes spending as formulated by the BushCo regime which spilled over into Obama's first term.
Don't know where you're pulling out 1.4%, but if you look at the WH's own numbers, Obama's cruising into a nominal 7.9% increase in spending between 2009 actuals and 2012 projections. Of course this is in a massive recessionary/depressionary environment - which is why we're seeing the massive deficits under Obama and the Senate which hasn't passed a budget for 3 years. Here's a good rundown of the nominal increases in federal government from the WH OMB files.

Folks the inmates are running the asylum up there on the Hill, and we'd best take the pitchforks and torches and head up there. And that includes Obama.
just saying.....you should look deeper into princess Ann Romney...
she is one of those American Francophiles types who worship "let them eat cake " princess Marie Antoinette.
the thing is she looks like another bitch who wanted to get into the whitehouse...hillary.

Dude, the girl gave a 'Why I love my hubby' speech that all Presidential wives give if they can.
Why run her into the dirt? that is such a loathseome thing, to target members of a Presidents family.
Magic Underwear Guy isn't President yet.
Oh, and get your possessives right next time.
Yes, I've never heard anyone insult Michelle Obama before. /sarcasm. The fact of the matter is some partisan fools can't take it when their candidate gets ripped into. Learn to hate both candidates equally.
But is it ok to hate both candidates and their Veep choices, plus their four wives? I'm pretty much there.
I haven't decided whether I'm voting for Johnson or writing in Ron Paul, probably the latter.
I'll have 2 orders of Freedom Fries, please.
No wonder Mitt can't remember the name of the horse... I can see the confusion.
""let them eat cake " princess Marie Antoinette."
Real historical evidence, not your public school indoctrination, shows M.A. never said that.
AldousHuxley vient de prouver à tout le monde qu'il est un parfait imbécile.
Like to see the same stats on BHO ... Did he apply to Pepperdine, Columbia, Harvard as a foreigner (Ill State Senate, he called himself a Kenyan)? How did he get to Pakistan in 1979? How come he has a Connecticut Social Security number from Hawaii?
Ann Romney cost to the American public = 0 ... Michelle Obama = 220,000,000 for one fuking trip to Spain with 300 close friends.
I would be very interested in a real side-by-side unbiased comparison of the history of these two men, day by day, year by year.
I know in 1978:
BHO - smokin dope, Choom wagon, cocaine
RWR - working his tail off
or how about 2011:
BHO - 100 golf games, 50 basket ball games, 4 major vacations, 97 illegal executive orders
RWR - working his tail off
Hey, fucktard. Mitt sure had it tough, growing up a Mex citizen and all. I bet he was at the border crossing selling chiclets to pay for his Ivy League education where he learned how to fuck companies to extract value. Don't you realize he doesnt care about anything but getting those pesky Native Americans who killed Jesus. You are the biggest muppet of all.
And in other news, tomorrow SmokeThatHog will rip Obama a new one, proving that he's 'fair and balanced!'
Wow, easy Hoggie, looks like Bear got your goat or something.
Food for thought "the U.S. population is a little over 312 million". Of this population, almost half is on a handout of some sort "around 48.5%".
So roughly they are getting about $3000 per person getting the handout "per year".
Now I am sure there has to be almost half of this money sucked up by administration workers.
I think they need to bring back CCC camps, make some of these people work for what they get. They surely can all be disabled. If this is the case "disabled" then the U.S.A. has a bigger problem of health "then just being obese"
don't worry, governments are arming themselves to kill some off.
SOFEX...trade show for world military to buy shit to kill each other....but mostly their own citizens.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QL_3Qg-SADY
interesting to note:
Big statist "solutions" tend to do more harm than good.
You'd think there'd be savings in putting 156 million people to work on the collective farms, but in fact, it costs a fortune to set the whole thing up.
If you're suggesting such an investment for the "long term" returns, fine, but you'll be living in a totalitarian shithole.
(Mao did this stuff about as well as anyone ever could. How did you like his plan?)
I'm not suggesting, merely pointing out something that was done in the past. It worked "somewhat" during the depression, governments "federal, state, county or other" always need projects done.
We are paying these people to lay around and drink beer "on our dime I might add", give them an opportunity to do something useful. Sometimes these programs actually spin off other jobs or have a trickle down effect in some cases.
Not talking chain gangs "That my friend is for the prison people", and that is a whole nother can O' beans...
Other wise, lets quit paying them altogether, save the money. Will the big government just shoot them when they decide to riot ?
Good day...
Speaking of Obama - he's currently doing an AMA (ask my anything) on reddit:
http://www.reddit.com/r/IAmA/comments/z1c9z/i_am_barack_obama_president_of_the_united_states/
Figures he would do it during the 9-5 working hours.
Hux, looks like you and Ann have quite a bit in common then..you both like to suck boys off.
Hux is your mother's name?
This shows how "efficient" the reserve currency can be. LOL.
When you own the printing press, and own the largest military, spending knows no limits.
When you ESTABLISH yourself with a WORLD RESERVE CURRENCY and ENFORCE your currency with the largest military, WEALTH (to some) and DEBT (to many) knows no limits.
The Status Quo is a crap shoot for most because of the above.
Bwahahahahaha!!!!
+1,000 MDB, you are always good for a genuine belly laugh when I really need one!
Thanks for the entertainment.
capitalism can't exist without competition.
reserve currency in its concept is a monopoly.
NOW ADJUST THE ABOVE TO OUNCES OF GOLD AND GET THE REAL PRICES OF BOTH GOLD AND FIAT.
... well ... if Bernank Benedictus, he can make the biggest american hero out of Jonathan Pollard . Work in progress.
VP Cheney couldn't have said it better MDB...oh, wait...

Ron Paul and Family Accosted by TSA While Leaving Florida
Hey, those are Bush's TSA goons, not Romney's. I mean Obama's TSA goons. (the transition from Bush to obama was so seamless I sometimes get confused)
They suck whatever dick is held in front of them.
What godamned good has any of the TSA funding, feel offs and radiation doses actuall accomplished?
Have they caught one godamed terrorist yet with that shit?
It is all bullshit to make the public feel like the 'gubmints doin sumpin' while extending government power as some of the top dudes make money hand over fist selling the machinery to the government.
The TSA is one of the most fucked up bullshit con games ever foisted on the American public.
Just wait until the start fisting!
Then they'll really start to feel the power of the TSA.
... what transition ... ? Obama Bush the 3rd. completed the long way to Absolutistic Monarchy Of Goldman Sux ..... NDAA was the crown ....

We have a word for efficient government...Dictator.
correct...that's why one party China was so quick to catch up.
efficient doesn't mean quality.
Hey I like your theory. Using your "logic" I should rack up all kinds of debt and leave it for my kids to pay it off. I mean they are going to be part of that more productive generation therefore they will be much richer than I and more able to pay for my good times than I am. /sarc BTW MDB how's dollar cost averaging of Facebook working out for you? 19.10 today, I bet you're making a killing!
"Govt efficiency" ... Bwahahahahaha!
too bad productivity is being stolen so a productive workers keeps none of the gains as real wages go down.
Add to this conundrum that efficiency for workers doesn't even happen in government and clearly cutting spending is the only way US government can reduce its deficit.
Add to both conundrums that the debt for US govt exceeds all the money ever printed & the clear conclusion is that the debt can't ever be paid therefore paying the deficit isn't really a worthwhile endeavor either.
Finally, all that fuckwittery put together with Bernanke means he'll print his way out of it, thereby collapsing the dollar.
Or, more succinctly,
GOLD, BITCHEZ
If Mitt is going to "take over" the US he is going to have to wrest it away from Choomboy and his gang from Chi-town first.

It's congress that allocates and spends the taxpayer money.
correct.
white house is operational.
So it wasn't all Bush's fault?
Oh I like that catch....

Michael you can do better, you're slipping.
I just loved the Gordon Gecko reference. Finally someone big came out and said it.
No facts presented here upon which to indict Mittens. So I will vote for him for the sake of his Father's legacy. I would rather be smoothly swindled by an investment banker, than a moron like Obammy. At least Mitt will not crotch salute the flag, an can show a legal birth certificate, SS Card and draft card. Obammy has his "originals" all sealed up. Ron Paul, Pon Paul!
I used to think Taibbi was clever and could potentially be a great investigative reporter - his stuff is so nauseatingly editorialized now that I can barely read it. He "became good at glad-handing clients"? Uh...he was really good at client service, which is what service providers are supposed to do?
Whatever...I'm sure he earned it unlike Romney...oh wait, isn't Taibbi's dad a reporter at NBC?
I heard Matt Taibbi got his original Goldman Sach expose from Tyler Durden and that he gets more info off Zero Hedge but he does not even really understand the info that he repeats. How funny is that? But he is the expert we are supposed to look at? He can't even lick my boots and I only know half the story myself. LOL!
Obamney 2012! He'll stop them and save us all!
Great read, thanks for posting the link Michael. Shines a real light on Romney the man! He'd make a great president in the same way Gordon Gecko would.
Yeah, keep voting for hope and change you moron. You are the problem.
I'll take his kind of job destrucion over Barry's anytime
Moronic blather and non fact. a non-shocker to be sure. It is exactly what most of us on this blog try to sort through. desparate left wingers with no substance but lies and purposed demogogery.
Of course, let us please quote the always accurate and neutrally opined and surely informed Rolling Stone. Music anyone?
Michael, Crawl out of your cave bud. More of the same from you libs standing on the cliff of no return (PLEASE!!) Bring something original, no more fear!. We have had enough of big inefficient centralized top down govt over the last 40 years. Maybe you are only 20. Sounds like it.
Bring some actual points of discussion or write a post worth consideration. Accusations with a false and misinformed narrative with such bravado is a TIRED card to play. Somthing new please? Somthing with facts?

Michael, are you familiar with Michael Berry out of Houston? His radio show is getting syndicated bit by bit. Anyway, this is the free podcast from the last half hour or so of his show Tuesday. He ripped the RNC and Romney for how they have treated Ron Paul and his supporters. I enjoyed hearing someone saying it on syndicated radio.

They will need a real big boot to kick that down the road.
Shrug...Hey I know lets make a graphic that piles money next to arbitrary objects instead of the stuff/services that money is used to pay for. Then we can whine about how it all goes to nothing, instead of making a good argument for what policies should be passed to reduce government waste.
Its going to be a cold winter.
not when we have all that worthless paper to burn.
"Congressional dummies" is redundant.
Budget???? There's no stinking Budget. There's only Mad Hatter spending.
Not listed: The Treasury's expenditures. Also the fed if you count that as a government entity.

Question: How much is the federal revenue for 2012 and how much of that 3.8B US$ is mandatory spending?
Answer: Not enough, and the definition of "mandatory" depends on which faction of US citizens you feel would be hardest to suppress in an all-out revolt. You want a really big revolt? Make three of the four tallest skyscrapers of money in the infographic not mandatory. I'll leave you to figure out which three. ;)
I thought there were two sorts of federal spending - mandatory and discretionary. And if I remember correctly, mandatory spending consumes almost 100 percent of federal revenue turning the financial situation of the greatest country in the world from big doodoo into even bigger doodoo. That's why I'm asking.
I was wondering the same thing. What is the projected revenue and deficit for 2012?
How much to be borrowed?
From memory: 10%-12% budget deficit.
Mandatory? Someone voted it in, someone can vote it out. They just lack the courage to do so.
You are correct.
Social Security/Medicare/Medicaid: this money is spent because of thousands of pages of LAWS defining how that money is distributed to the entitlees. That's near half the total of Federal spending.
If you figure the total Federal expenditures are around $3.7T, and $1.8T are going to those programs, and revenues are around $2.3T, you see that unless/until those entitlement programs are changed somehow, there's ZERO room to reduce the deficit.
The thing is, the President doesn't have the power to change the programs. They were passed by Congress, and Congress would have to adjust them.
All the pissing and moaning specifically about Obama's spending is misplaced. He's right in line with the last guy. A few wars, a stimulus, and a few bailouts, same as Dubya.
Congress intentionally skyrocketed spending in the early 'aughts. Who knows why.
Mandatory spending ? You mean by law? When was the last time the rule of law mattered. What I want to know is why we necessarily believe that the money is going where they say it is? How much cash was mis-classified and then handed to the banks in those loan Guarantees we passed around in 2008-2009 by the trillions when politics made direct accountable infusions of cash impossible. That was around the time we found out TARP was a a real Tarp to cover up how much money the banks really got.
Why do people bitch about the cost of Medicare when the Congress they elected, passed Medicare part D which infused the drug companies with hundreds of billions of dollars with no price negotiations allowed. The year Medicare Part D was passed drug companies raised drugs by an average of 17%. From there , prices go up every year. What about this "manufactured" drug shortage we have/had where drugs with expired patents suddenly became available only through gray marketers up to 1500% of the price they were normally sold. Does anyone believe that just happened? The free market working? Bullshit. Medicare Part D makes up a good bit of the annual bill on Medicare & Medicaid if it follows the normal spending on Health Care.
ZH spends much of its space on central banks and the crooks on Wall Street. That's great, but lets not forget the other half of the thievery going on in this country. Especially the pharmaceutical, devices, and diagnostics industries. They all compose well over 2/3rds of the market cap of all publicly traded Helath Care related companies together , which comes in at well over 2.5 trillion dollars.
Let's find out how much of that 3.6 trillion is being purposely misplaced and sent to the banks too. How about a widget on the side of the site showing how much money has been slipped to the banks just on loan guarantees.
Old folks vote, but they don't necessarily mind living in a fascist state.
Pharmacy fraudster handed more money to the SECs that military contractors. WTO takes care that none of fuckin' pills without a patent ever touch american soil . That's a free market - pay for a 50 yrs . old permutated shit with a patent or be free to die.
Policy of Pfizer, Lilly , Bayer, GSK & Co. : crash or loot everything new, suppres any question about the efficiency of the drugs, lurk and deplete american University, ( Romney in MA ), fork their medical research to some useless shit for the old farts and cosmetics, and be sure to have all the professors in the line of command . Hit & run, maximize the profiits, rince & repeat . The best way to export R&D to Bejing .
Of course those physical piles really do not exist.
Not in this age of digital imaging.
Currency has become digitized. Just shuffling around digits within computers.
Actual in your pocket physical paper currency, is becoming rare, as more and more digits are created out of thin air.
$153 billion allocated for education budget?
One would never have guessed, judging by the aggregate output.
The small amount of $153 billion of miseducation and propaganda has yielded the sharks and vampires a hefty 60 trillion paycheque. Leveraged and all that of course.
A most lucrative ROI for a sheep farm.
There's plenty more where that came from
And there you have it - why the budget deficit can not be tamed. SLASH defense then start to look elsewhere.
By the way the infographic is very distorted as it fails to note that the amount spent on Social Security is pretty close to the amount taken in in SS taxes. Reall only the net should be shown ... in which case DEFENSE agains becomes the biggest fucking elephant in the room, bar none.
Without showing defense, etc. the "infographic" has about as much credibility as those pretty colored charts in USAToday.
Bill actually Entitlement's shot past defense in 1976 and that infographic is also distorted because it doesn't take into account the $6.3 Trillion in GSE's that obama left off his budget.
Obama will stress national security in DNC speech
Yeah, but that is the best bang for a buck. Look at that F-35, a pride of LOCK*MART technology . Every pilot in some of Su-27 derivated and upgraded airplane pisses his pants just thinking of that Mighty Provider Of Total Air Dominance. With some 100-200 Bn. $$$ more, it will even fly without loosing the wings ....
Just wondering...
Is "bitchez" the official word or zero hedge?
...mebbe...
or are you here looking for absolutes?
in which case you wouldn't be happy elsewhere
welcome to zH you fuking moronic asswipe
"The first rule of fight club - no one talks about fight club."

I think they meant 3.7 TRILLION.
Its not an issue. With all the MSM newspaper companies failing, there is excess priniting capacity at all the major city centers. Crank em up.
most powerful entity in the world??....powerful how???...as in...... "the sudden collapse of the volcanic island led to the most powerful tsunami on record.........wiping out nearly the entire western population"...."despite warnings for years, the government said nothing could have been done to prevent such an unexpected powerful force"..........is the united states is that kind of powerful?.......
or maybe, "the sudden collapse of a mountaintop glacier caused the most powerful avalanche ever recorded....wiping out the entire population, who were totally unprepared for such an event, although they had been warned for years by formerly fringe forecasters"...................
is the u.s. that kind of powerful?........
well, kinda, kito, i would think...
just as the forces you describe act (in time) to reveal themselves with power (we notice them then as you so accurately note), the "populations" also reveal the power written of here
how?
well, this power, like the ones you develop with yer usual aplomb, is able to make others do as it wishes...
if it can't do that, it isn't really "power"
political power = telling others what to do, how to do it, and when
and... it works too!
here is a "classical gas" treatment of the topic by the shithead who also wrote: thusSpakeZarathustra

- and he figured all this shit out before he killed himself, too
- as "we" say in typology101: different strokes for different folks

Money = Power
Surely this isn't NEWS?
Not like it's real money anyway.
How so? The money is real enough that it can be exchanged for goods and services. It is certainly real in the sense that it can be used to motivate people to do things such as work hard or part with some of their property. It is also real in the sense that people must work to obtain it in order to pay their taxes.
Yes of course. It is real enough to cause real harm and real problems. Real enough to afford a few the lavish lifestyles as Kings and Queens of New without the crazy royalist aristocratic nonsense.
We're all being had by their game of fake money. Our best chance to escape the game is by not accepting their fake money for our goods and services anylonger. But it's unrealistic. The temptation of their carrots is too much to deny. They know it.
Chicago politics
We take in 2.2 trillion and spend 3.8 trillion. Budget.. well that is why there is no "BUDGET"
Now, do it for the 16 trillion dollar debt, or even better, do it for just the interest on the national debt.
We're going to need more Kenworths to haul all this money around. That explains why we spend so much on ground transportation.
All I need is one of those stacks. I'll even provide my own pallet. They'll never miss it.
Where are the tanks and guns, baby? I wantz me some of that action.
135,000 new DHS and defense privateers? Woohooo, that's where you get yer bread buttered.
Welfare? pfffft! Pocket change.
There is a difference between money that the government collects and can use freely,
and money that the government collects basically only to hold and to be essentially returned.
Same as though an elderly neighbor gave you money to purchase her food, and also paid extra for your trouble.
The food money was supposed to be spent on food. You were not supposed to be free to embezzle it to gamble and buy guns.
That's one reason why it is so deceitful to pretend that the biggest part of the federal budget is "spent" for Social Security. The government was supposed to act as an honest non-profit investment /insurance agent.
The pretense that monies collected for retirement are the same as monies taxed to be then appropriated by Congress,
is one of the biggest scams going.
"The government was supposed to act as an honest non-profit investment /insurance agent". But it never did. Social security payments were never invested in productive assets. They were always simply a transfer payment from one group to another.
So when you say "supposed to" you are stating what you think should have happened, not what ever did. In addition you are assuming those taxes, had they been invested instead of used to pay for current government consumption and redistribution as occurred, would have produced a large enough return to pay what was promised, which is unlikely.
A tax is a tax, whatever one generation of politicians claims they and others will do with the money.
I do not dispute that Social Security revenues have been fraudulently misused. Superficially, it appears to be regressive taxation to fund wars and corporate handouts. But it is not exactly that. It is worse. It is theft, embezzlement, fraud, to fund wars, handouts, and other political gravy.
Monies collected for a retirement fund are not supposed to be diverted for other puposes, no matter whether collected by a union, a corporation, a private investment account, or a government agency.
For purposes of political dogma, one may choose to call all monies collected by government a "tax", implying all revenues are equivalent, and obscure the actual accounting gimmickry, misappropriation, and theft.
Were a union to call all retirement contributions as "dues", or an investment firm call all retirement contributions as "fees", to mix with their general receipts, you doubtless would rail against it.
In addition to facilitating fraud, the accounting nomenclature sleight-of-hand fosters an illusion that the government is "taxing" and "spending" a greater percentage of the GDP, while yet at the same time spending a smaller percentage of its "receipts" on wars and bailouts.
Ain't America great!
