Obama Popularity Plunges To New Low: "No Longer Likeable Enough"

Tyler Durden's picture

A stunning 64% of Americans say the country is on the wrong track as President Obama's recent actions (too numerous to list) have sent his approval rating plunging to a mere 44% - the lowest (according to a Bloomberg poll) since his Presidency began. Under the surface the picture is even more worrisome as "in the past, Obama’s likeability has stayed ahead of perceptions of job performance," as his 'charm' saved him from his apparent ineptitude, but now, "it appears he is no longer likeable enough."

As Bloomberg reports, here are the highlights (or lowlights) of the survey...

President Barack Obama’s favorability ratings hit the lowest point of his presidency in a Bloomberg National Poll, with just 44 percent of Americans saying they have positive feelings about him.

Fifty-seven percent disapprove of his management of the economy, with just 38 percent approving.

58 percent say the U.S. is in decline as a world leader,

The No. 1 concern for Americans continues to be unemployment and jobs.

Americans feel similarly negative about Obama’s handling of the alleged mismanagement of the Department of Veterans Affairs, which provides medical care to more than 8.3 million veterans. Fifty-one percent disapproved of Obama’s management of the matter. Sixteen percent said they aren’t sure how they feel.

Only 31 percent approved of how Obama handled the prisoner swap and 51 percent didn’t, 18 percent said they aren’t sure how they feel.

And ironcially, as Russian President Vladimitr Putin's approval rating his record highs...

Americans seem less certain about Obama’s handling of the crisis in Ukraine after Russia’s annexation of Crimea. While 31 percent approve and 46 percent disapprove, 23 percent aren’t sure how they feel.

Diebold will tell us who gets the vote!  Point of accuracy, Obama was NEVER actually likeable.  It is the seemliness of likeability that these spin doctors must address in order to convey the illusion of plausibility in the election result.

HRH is still recovering from: a) her illness b) being broke when she left the white house c)face lifts.

Can the democrats have the wherewithal to nominate the populist Elizabeth Warren?  But it is really not relevant who is nominated because whoever gets in has so much shit to deal with you'd have to be nuts to want the job.

Impeachment is a process that occurs within the "elected" bodies.  Given that it has now been shown, even in the academic white towers

that the US is oligarchic in nature and that our "elected" bodies no longer represent the population of the country, these two sentences do not go together very well.

Americans are apathetic, I agree.  But when the time comes for the population to replace the current power structure (of whom the president is only the most visible symbol, without as much influence as your comment might suggest), that change is not going to come through the political process that we have known for the past 149 years.  Calculate the year that I am referring to with that number, and you will see that I am not optimistic that a "political" solution that maintains the current government structure will be possible any longer.

It's gotten so bad in America at this point that we would need to revolt to ever achieve this result.  Since many are like me and would prefer to not leave my two little kids fatherless, it's not likely to happen without some outside catalyst.  That said, if they fail to keep the plates spinning, or simply knock the plates off, it could happen.

I've been saying for years I believe the plan is to crash things and use Obama as the fall guy.  It's just too easy to do at this point.

Obama was NEVER actually likeable

True.  The average drone out there assesses likeability on the basis of what the MSM show him.  Remember GW Bush was supposed to be likeable as well.  Obama is the ultimate supreme narcissist whose only criterion for anything is how it affects him personally.

My children, both millennials, do not vote after explaining why it is pointless today. I had wished someone would have done so for me 35 years ago. The system is not fixable now and the only solution is scrapping it though I shudder at the process. The millennials main problem is being born at an unfortunate time.

Beyond being simply pointless (which is true), it is immoral to participate in making a decision which can only produce a repulsive result.

And yes, tragically corrupt and powerful institutions eventually must be replaced because they simply cannot be reformed. There is a tipping point beyond which quality of leadership simply no longer matters. (Marcus Aurelius was arguably the finest and least corrupt of all Roman emperors but the die was cast long, long before he came to power.)

We need more debate and actual party definition.  I dream one day that parties like the Pirate Party, the Socialist Party, and the Libertarian Party all splinter from their 2-horned masters and start to make waves in these primaries.

We need more parties like Europe.  This will bring out more truth and less political correctness.  It will be messy.  There will be arguing.  But at least there will also be progress, unlike now, where we essentially live under a 2 party corportocracy that stands pat on every issue because ITS GOOD FOR TEH STAWKS!!!!!1111

A) The "most corrupt president in history" precident will continue for each and every next POTUS until the shit comes crashing down.  Clinton was bad, Bush was worse, Obama even worser, etc etc etc

B) I still find it stunning that 44% still approve despite all the scandals - remember, a ton of "progressives" and even "conservatives", both folks mostly older (but some in my age bracket, 18-35, think your tech CEO type like the asshole from Tumblr), have greatly benefitted from this presidency:

- stocks at all time highs

- real estate near all time highs

- gay marriage and marijuana legalized

- jobs for educated white people

- defense contractors (think: NSA) getting renewed contracts (why you think GDP did so "well" last month?  The Navy ordered submarines!)

- And of course, the TBTF bankers have made more money than ever off of all of this, despite being trillions in ad hoc and insolvent

Now, the majority of us have gotten screwed....but Congress really only works for the 20% - your managers, your bosses, owners of capital and land, bankers, defense lackeys, corporate debtors, and random billionaires.

But if you are a worker?  Small business owner?  Progressive or Libertarian advocate?  "Yeah, you can go fuck yourself."  And the 20% is just FINE with that.

They'll opine about "equality" when it comes to gay marriage, abortion, race (think Donald Sterling)....use it as a corporate slogan...but want to be protected from your employer accessing your Facebook?  Want equal pay for equal work?  Want cheaper health care? Better schooling? Less debt (college)? More PTO?  "Yeah, you can go fuck yourself."

That is, until, it one day slips away like sand in an hour glass.
