UN investigator Carla Del Ponte said that there is strong evidence that the rebels used chemical weapons, but that there is not evidence that the government used such weapons:
This is not surprising. Haaretz reported on March 24th, “Jihadists, not Assad, apparently behind reported chemical attack in Syria [4]“.
The “rebels” in Syria [5] that the U.S. has been arming [6] and otherwise supporting [7] are Al Qaeda and Muslim Brotherhood [8].
Unfortunately, history is repeating.
Specifically, the American government gave chemical weapons to Saddam Hussein [9] … which he then used on Iran [10] and on his own Kurdish population [11].
The American government attempted to blame Iran [12] for the chemical weapons attack on Iraq’s Kurds.
