Unfortunately for the machines... the VIX-slammer algo failed today... 3rd time was not the charm...
With stocks falling into the close, the old-faithful VIX-compressor algo was put to use... why not, it worked before very well... but, somehow, it was different this time and the machines running the show were overwhelmed by selling volumes in cash and index rebalancing...
