Biography

Engineer living in NC. I only had a couple undergrad courses in economics, and none in finance per se, but I've read a fair bit on the topics in the past year or so. Eager to learn more, now that I have a little bit of money I'd like to not lose.

Politically, I'm some sort of hybrid, liking a lot of libertarian thinking, thinking some "statist" programs in some form do make practical sense, but disliking extremists and ideologues who mistake their worldview as the only, or best answer in all circumstances.

I think gold it money, but that a gold standard/backing is probably not the best system, and that the biggest problem with the currency system is that the issuing power is in the hands of private banks who loan the public currency into existence, at interest. Combined with fractional reserve money creation [plus interest] the primary economic problem is an ethical one - banks create money from nothing and taxpayers and debtors need to actually work, engage in productive labor, in order to pay that loan back.

Everything reduces to this.
