side note: paul tudor had a nice quote where he states he comes up with a thesis and tests it in small amounts with little risk until it is proven right or he changes his mind about the thesis.
it is one thing to feel strongly about short-term overvaluation, it is quite another to put a large percentage of capital in that basket as markets can stay irrational longer than blah blah blah. although i think the possibility remains that there may not be a crash for months if not years, i am staying short until i change my mind but i am doing it in a way that i could do this for months to years and still survive
Actually Paul TJ is smart enough to enjoy his original thought being a loser. Since he knows losers average losers, the rest is easy.

In Denver the name of the game is medical marijuana. Hundreds of new green jobs that Obama can take credit for but probably did not intend when he told the Feds tro back off the scene.
As as as buying stock, I stopped trading/investing on principal. Although I would have to get burned one last time in trhe oil market last year.
I think people should sell their stock and buy vacant homes in their communities. That is what you call "social investing." Buying stock is just adding to the problem.

If just 25% individual investors are buying stocks, why is the market rising? Can you say hedge funds? ZH's thesis about the U.S. buying s&p futures after hours also has merit.

I was selling stock that I bought in the fall of '08. Looks like I was about 15% too early, so far.
Took a small position in SDS and will be patient, although admittedly am looking forward to it going galactic at some point. Rest in cash, and amazingly, we have commercial property that is still producing income.
when will people learn that the bank doesn't care how manipulated you think the market is?
My buddy has this Camero RS that I have been trying to get him to sell to me for the past 25 years. I have offered him gold, silver, palladium- no deal. In November I saw his portfolio and wrote down the stocks he is invested in. Since every stock I buy drops in value by 10% within hours of my purchase, I began purchasing the same shares of stock he has in his portfolio. I figure in about two weeks he will be busted and will sell me the car. Let this be a warning to all. If you have something I want, I will purchase the same stocks you are holding until I get what you have.

Inflationary only in the sense of money production. From an economic perspective I'd say it's more deflationary.
Stagflation maybe? It's NOT a conventional inflationary setting that's for sure.

Bought more into my long term iberian utility (electric & gas carrier) investment on my margin account. Got a 75bp spread on the euribor6m; which is handsomely paid with little or no risk by the high dividends.
On a mere "speculative" side, will place a small long investment on a SPX CFD betting on higher employment numbers.
Typical, you go long expecting jobs number propaganda and you get hosed. :-)
Must add that tried to short (using the SPX CFD) 3 times before and got burnt. After the 60% rally I sold 66% of my US holdings, probably jumped the gun there, but rather be safe than sorry.
So this is where the pessimists come to roost! All this know-it-all blabber I read in these comments, and most of ya'll aren't even participants in the market. How about that!
I appreciate ZeroHedge and read it every day because they say what the WSJ won't say. But you guys need to read the WSJ because it says what ZeroHedge doesn't need to say. Get it? If you read only one, your worldview becomes skewed and you end up as an investing washout, a spectator grousing about everything.

Marla, is the point of the question to see how many people are long the market? If so, perhaps "invested" in stocks is a better way to qualify this? To point - I have "traded" in and out of many stocks in the past month, so in answer to your question as stated, yes, I have purchased stocks, but I'm certainly not long equities for anything more than a swing, so I don't know that my "yes" vote represents the sort of stats you're looking to capture.
I am putting myself to the fullest possible use, which is all I think that any conscious entity can ever hope to do.
I think you know what the problem is just as well as I do.
This mission is too important for me to allow you to jeopardize it.
