Fried green shoots - US electricity production down, even as fuel costs decline
Some anonymous poster (y'all really should just meld with the hive and create a profile) brought up the point that electricity production is a better indicator of US economic health than other statistics (possibly because they're harder to massage, or they just haven't caught on they should massage that as well).
This is interesting to me as I've read reports China's electricity output is down significantly, giving doubt to their rosy economic figures.
Anyway, here's the straight dope http://www.eia.doe.gov/cneaf/electricity/epm/epm_sum.html
I was surprised to notice that net electricy production is down only slightly year over year (although I'd love to see 10 years of data).
What surprised me is the COST Of producing said electricity is down dramatically. Normally you would expect consumption to rise (electricity is cheap), but it has NOT.
Seems to me like those inclined should use electricity to fry up those green shoots, it's a bargain!
