Market Makers/ "Specialist" info wanted
Hey guys and gals!
I've got a question that I hope some of the investment industry professionals who frequent zero hedge can help me with. I am looking for as much information as possible about NYSE,AMEX,NASDAQ & CBOE Designated Market Makers ("Specialists", "Market Makers") as I possibly can.
I've been scouring the www and have sent inquiries to the S.E.C (who fobbed me off to the exchanges...so, then I asked several different people at the NYSE, AMEX and the CBOE, all of whom were, ahem, less than useless, but maybe some of you can help me.
It seems to me (and please, industry folk, correct me if I am wrong here) that one of the safest ways to trade equities is to know what the Market Makers in your stock are doing/have done. They obviously have very powerful in-built advantages as far as short selling and limitless supplies of capital from their parent-affiliates (I know JPM and Goldman, et al have their Market Maker subsidiaries on the floor of every exchange) that are not available to small speculators such as myself.
Ideally, what I would like is a complete master list of ALL D.M.M.s that operate on the NYSE, NASDAQ and CBOE plus a list of all the stocks/options they make a market in. I suppose I could seek out the D.M.M.s one at a time as I trade in a stock or option - and I may end up having to, since a complete list seems pretty damn hard to find.
Any info, thoughts, insights in the Market Makers would be much obliged. Thanks!
