    What is the cost of a broken life? 

Is the United States of America a failed state? And, by what yardstick would we measure such a failure?





 In talking about failed "states", we sometimes hear of examples like Mexico, Russia, Venezuela, Iceland, Zimbabwe, etc.  In each case, the main reason for the category of failed state is perhaps different.  Could there be a common thread among these so-called "failed state" countries?  And, can we find such a common thread happening now in the USA?  Could one of these threads be the profound disconnect between the government and the governed?
