Greek Events: October 19 & 20

GREECE: Syntagma Square via: http://www.livestream.com/stopcarteltvgr

"There were at least 500,000 protesters on the streets both on 19th and 20th of October, 2011. Many people say it was close to a million!

On the 19th, people were mostly peaceful but decisive and angry. There were many that were trying to break the gates to storm the Parliament and ordinary people were clapping and cheering them.

Police attacked the People and the Syntagma Square with their usual weapons. batons and excessive use of chemicals. They evacuated Syntagma Square of all people and prevented them from returning. Eventually many people managed to return but police kept attacking them.

There were many clashes between police and a group of at least 2,000 more militant protesters and there were clashes in many side streets until late night.

Despite the violence that took place on the 19th, people again turned up massively on the streets again on the 20th of October. Many said it was the biggest demonstration since the Fall of the Junta in Greece. [The Greek People call it Junta because the government is kept in power only with the help of the riot police that act like [an] army. And, they have, on numerous occasions violated the country's Constitution.]

But PAME [described as a 'communist worker union'; http://www.pamehellas.gr/content_fullstory.php?pg=1&lang=2 ] members, controlled by KKE (Communist Party of Greece: http://inter.kke.gr), took over the front line and prevented protesters from approaching the Parliament.

Many PAME members were wearing helmets and holding sticks. They prevented anyone from approaching the Parliament to protest. They were asking for party membership or journalist IDs to allow individuals to go through.

There were conflicts between PAME members and Protesters, until at some point people started throwing rocks at them. The so called people dressed in black, or 'the hooded ones', started clashing with them. PAME members had the assistance of the police throughout.

A 53-year-old member of PAME died of heart attack. Doctors attributed the heart attack to excessive gas inhale, but no official statement as to the causes has yet been released

When PAME members left the area accompanied by a police squad, riot police squads took their place in guarding the Parliament. They kept attacking the Square numerous times, and chased thousands of People into the side streets.

As far as I know, there were 75 injured and as many as 70 were detained, but there were really only 12 that are going to court with charges.

There were also clashes yesterday between people and the cops in various areas of Athens, Plaka, Monastirakim Thiseio and Gazi. Police also attacked Eksarchia Square and cordoned off the area for a few hour.

FuRious, a Moderator at the Chat for StopCartelGRTV at LiveStream.Com, personally replied to another Chat participant, 'I cannot say what will happen now or how people will react to all this. One thing I know is that the vast majority are really angry now and at some stage soon, no one will manage to stop them'."

I encourage everyone to pass the links of StopCartelGRTV on to others. The MSM is not covering the events of Greece and the People of the Globe have a lot to learn from The People of Greece. OccupyWallStreet has modeled their Occupation and LiveStream upon the example and success of StopCartelGRTV.
