Where the evidence shows a community is likely to be wiped out in as few as 10 years, that poses an “intolerable level of risk” to the community’s safety or its continued viability. “The only rational response, in the absence of a feasible, cost-effective alternative, will be to relocate the community to a safer place.”
And you thought you owned your home and as such had a right to its use. No, you peasant.
Then they have this…
Although most instances of community relocation to date have occurred after a natural disaster, the working group report says, in the future pre-emptive relocation will become increasingly necessary. “Such action can permanently mitigate the risk faced by threatened communities and allow local and central government to exit an increasingly expensive cycle of responding to, and recovering from, destructive storms and similar harmful events.
So you see they’ll take your homes away from you. They will make it illegal for you to have them in one way or another.
Hopefully, they have some nice safe smart cities for us to all go live in. You know, the ones with all the conveniences nearby. No more than 15 minutes away. So we don’t even need to own a car. Matter of fact, why own anything? We can rent it all.
They don’t mince their words or even hide their intentions:
In the first instance, that should be done by persuading people they want to go. But in the final reckoning, it recommends communities be relocated using new legislated emergency powers, with no right of court appeal.
Do you see? Some do.
Though to be fair, a lot of those leaving are doing so simply because of things such as the cost of living, which is truly nuts now.
It’s funny, because I was just in Dubai, which isn’t the cheapest place in the world, and certainly, where I live there it’s not exactly the poor end of town.
Nevertheless, even in the truly ridiculous building where I stay, both food and drinks are actually cheaper than what are absolutely very average restaurants and cafes in Auckland.
If I was to explain the difference, it is like this. Imagine New Zealand as a 3-star motel but where your room bill is the same as a very high-end 5-star hotel (Dubai).
Turkey, where I spent some time recently, is amazing even in the billionaire hotspot of Bodrum. Anyway, no sense is bitching about it. Just make your plans accordingly.
