McCain Office Involved In IRS Targeting Scandal; Pushed "Financially Ruinous" Audits Of 501(c) Orgs

Internal IRS documents obtained by Judicial Watch through the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) reveal that in 2013, John McCain's former staff director, Henry Kerner, pushed the Obama IRS to engage in "financially ruinous" audits of 501(c) organizations - 10 days before Obama's IRS publicly admitted to "inappropriate" targeting of groups with "tea party" or "patriot" in their names.

Sen. John McCain’s former staff director and chief counsel on the Senate Homeland Security Permanent Subcommittee, Henry Kerner, urged top IRS officials, including then-director of exempt organizations Lois Lerner, to “audit so many that it becomes financially ruinous.”  Kerner was appointed by President Trump as Special Counsel for the United States Office of Special Counsel.

The explosive exchange was contained in notes taken by IRS employees at an April 30, 2013, meeting between Kerner, Lerner, and other high-ranking IRS officials. Just ten days following the meeting, former IRS director of exempt organizations Lois Lerner admitted that the IRS had a policy of improperly and deliberately delaying applications for tax-exempt status from conservative non-profit groups. -Judicial Watch

The meeting was first summarized by Judicial Watch in April of 2015, before they obtained the FOIA documents:

[Lerner] met with select top staffers from the Senate Governmental Affairs Committee in a “marathon” meeting to discuss concerns raised by both Sen. Carl Levin (D-MI) and Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) that the IRS was not reining in political advocacy groups in response to the Supreme Court’s Citizens United decision.  Senator McCain had been the chief sponsor of the McCain-Feingold Act and called the Citizens United decision, which overturned portions of the Act, one of the “worst decisions I have ever seen.” Among those attending the meeting were key aides to the committee minority ranking member, John McCain.

McCain issued a statement following the original Judicial Watch report on the 2013 meeting, decrying "false reports claiming that his office was somehow involved in IRS targeting of conservative groups."

Judicial Watch separately uncovered that Lerner was under significant pressure from both Democrats in Congress and the Obama DOJ and FBI to prosecute and jail the groups the IRS was already improperly targeting. In discussing pressure from Senator Sheldon Whitehouse (Democrat-Rhode Island) to prosecute these “political groups,” Lerner admitted, “it is ALL about 501(c)(4) orgs and political activity.”

The April 30, 2013 meeting came just under two weeks prior to Lerner’s admission during an ABA meeting that the IRS had “inappropriately” targeted conservative groups.  In her May 2013 answer to a planted question, in which she admitted to the “absolutely incorrect, insensitive, and inappropriate” targeting of Tea Party and conservative groups, Lerner suggested the IRS targeting occurred due to an “uptick” in 501 (c)(4) applications to the IRS but in actuality, there had been a decrease in such applications in 2010. -Judicial Watch

“The Obama IRS scandal is bipartisan – McCain and Democrats who wanted to regulate political speech lost at the Supreme Court, so they sought to use the IRS to harass innocent Americans,” said Judicial Watch President Tom Fitton. “The Obama IRS scandal is not over – as Judicial Watch continues to uncover smoking gun documents that raise questions about how the Obama administration weaponized the IRS, the FEC, FBI, and DOJ to target the First Amendment rights of Americans," Judicial Watch said in a statement.

(((Lois Lerner sister of Barbara Lerner Spectre)))

McCain is from the East Coast, he met Cindy McCain from Arizona who was rich. He married her and moved there, only he had to pretend to be a Republican in order to get elected with all those old Republicans down there and with her fathers money.

His roommate is Chuck Schumer.

I have been patiently waiting for the tax crimes of ODumbo and friends to resurface.  This, in my opinion, was one of the worst crimes committed by oDumbo and his evil government.  To target innocent non profits doing what retarded leftist non profits were doing without impunity is pure evil.  Some of the stories about ruined families, ruined businesses as a result of oDumbo's evil destruction with the help of the IRS is possibly in the top 3 of his many, many evil crimes against humanity.

Think about it... oDumbo used abusive taxation to destroy his political opponents.  But not the experiened folks in DC, but small town families in rural Texas, for example.  oDumbo, his dumb as shit ape wife, Harry Reid (fake Mormon) and others should die a thousand fiery deaths in hell for eternity for their purposeful destruction of families in America.  UN agents at polling stations in Texas?  God must punish oDumbo and his evil band of demons in a very big way and I hope it happens soon.  What was that cunt's name at the IRS?  Oh yes, Lois Lerner.  She should be in the deepest darkest prison ever constructed to spend the rest of her evil life thinking about the lives she destroyed.

I hope this story gets investigated thoroughly over the next few years, it needs to be completely illuminated for dumb fuck angry low IQ dumocrats to fully understand the leaders they follow into the depths of hell.

Hey, y'all, please remember that if we know all this bad stuff about McCain, then Trump knows it too. Funny how old Wet Start hasn't been arrested yet for all his Syrian adventures with ISIS.

Let's just say that even if Trump is unaware (unlikely, but just for the sake of argument), you can bet that Sessions, Mr. Drowsy himself, knows. And so does the CIA and FBI. They're all corrupt. Trump ain't gonna make no place great again. Not even mediocre.

I actually read the whole transcript of the meeting (above).  It's a bunch of bureaucrats who don't have comprehensive law to refer to, trying to figure out which organizations qualify to be tax-exempt and which do not.

When this whole issue blew up, I looked at the websites of a couple of the Tea Party organizations who were asked to provide more information, and were the source of the complaints that led to this controversy.

The websites I looked at openly claimed to be doing direct lobbying for Tea Party interests.  If you do that, you're not allowed to be tax-exempt.  That's been the case, for everybody, since these organizations started.

All the Tea Party groups who gave the IRS the information got their tax-exempt status.  They had to stop direct lobbying activities.  Like every other such organization.  They could certainly continue direct lobbying activities, but then they couldn't be tax-exempt.  Their top priority was being tax-exempt, and they got their wish.  But they did have to comply with the law in order to do so.

By contrast, the IRS at that time was also dealing with a bunch of anti-war lefty groups who were also applying for tax-exempt status, and also did direct lobbying.  Every single one of those groups was denied tax-exempt status.

The Tea Party groups did get special treatment from the IRS, alright.  Their complaints worked, and the IRS bent over forwards (not backwards) for the Tea Partiers.

None of this would have been an issue at all if the Tea Party groups had considered themselves subject to the law in the first place.

The laws are insanely complex and ridiculous, but they apply to everybody.  It's amazing how the right-wing groups who got special favorable treatment and were given everything they wanted, within the law, are still complaining about this.  They seem to think they should be allowed to do direct lobbying and still be tax-exempt, but that left-wing groups should be held to existing law.

You are making excuses for very bad behavior.  No mention of the Christian churches who chose to be Christians and worship Jesus.  The same churches whose pastors had no problem putting the finger on the synagogue of satan.   What happened to the tax status of those churches under Lerner?

Targeted audits meant to to cause harm to those they did not like.  When was anyone in the Obama admin ever concerned about following the law rather than not getting caught?

'completely clueless'

You could say the same about others in Congress - Maxine and Nancy leap to mind, but it's a long, bi-partisan list.

The simplest solution I can see is there exist organizations who, for a price, 'assist' in the re-elections of their clients. That's the only thing that makes sense. Voters aren't *that* stupid, or at least I hope they aren't.

...his tenure was corruption and scandal free?...

Yes, I didn't pay a nickel for it at the time, in fact the scandal was a bonus while his free corruption was publicly advertised beforehand. (Marion Barry was not a fluke, even Pavlov's dog got a rise from the prospect of somethin for nuthin)

Watching it implode now at the cost of the integrity of our entire system of governance may finally make it enjoyable for my grandson's posterity to point to their little ones on how Not to pervert an otherwise sound foundation of government.

Individual accountability must be restored, even to, and perhaps especially to, the role of "dog-catcher".

Public employment is public Trust, it's not for those that wish to hide from scrutiny, it's just the opposite.

This is perfect example of how red team/ blue team is all theater, as they march us all in the same direction.  People watched what McStain said rather than what he did because they are idiots leashed by rhetoric.  There are probably 80 million in this country who lean into every word of these politicians and just buy it when they "lose" battles.  Its always a thrown fight.  Both sides have screwed us every step of the way going way back.  So do you bote for McStain or do you vote for Obama?  They still can't figure it out.

A Democrat party united, combined with a corrupt Republican party leadership at the national level, accomplished much together for fifty years. How could the Democrats reliably control the Republican party leadership for so long? HINT: they're pedophiles.

Rumor is McCain and Graham share a Vietnamese boy.

My hit always was that horrible shower video is not Wiener, it's his old boss Chuck Schumer's voice. I think when you go into dark stuff the old NY accent comes out.

And that was what was in the "Insurance File"
