After a pause to focus on geopolitics and geoeconomics at the start of the year, investor attention snapped right back to AI in the past fortnight, and the result has been a trail of blood and tears as attention shifted. That's because markets have suddenly turned into a sniper’s alley as the spotlight turns on sectors that could be disrupted by AI automation, disintermediation and obsolescence.
The Nasdaq slumped 5.3% since January 28, while the Magnificent Seven leading tech stocks are down 8.1%, with Microsoft down 17% and Amazon down 18%. Some of the biggest fallers have been wealth managers, commercial real-estate and logistics last week and software the week before.
