Taking a step back from the day to day, Goldman Sachs Partner, Mark Wilson, saw these four themes as best characterizing the first half of the year:

  1. An acceleration in size, scale & reach of the biggest theme of the last 4 years: the AI build out;

  2. An unequivocally impressive period of corporate earnings growth, across nearly all geographies & sectors;

  3. A sharp acceleration in capital formation & consumption as corporates (& countries) have embraced the possibilities of a new tech innovation cycle, investment opportunities and strategic M&A;

  4. The market’s resilience to geo-political & macro headwinds, specifically the Iran conflict & higher interest rates (and that resilience endured because of the scale of the micro imperatives, ie the prior 3 points, which comfortably outweighed macro concerns).
