Firearm Background Checks Soar To New High In May Despite NRA-Endorsed President

For the past decade, gun sales have spiked massively ahead each of the past three presidential elections as people have feared that increasingly 'progressive' liberal candidates, from Obama in 2008/2012 to Hillary and Bernie in 2016, would enact stiffer gun reforms that would make it nearly impossible to purchase firearms.  That fear of future regulation turned out to be one of the biggest boons for gun manufacturers in history as everyone (and their mothers) suddenly realized they had a pressing need for multiple AR-15s.

Obama even won 'Gun Salesman of the Year" for pretty much 8 consecutive years.

Obama

Of course, when Trump shocked the world with his win last November, the election of the first NRA-endorsed President in nearly a decade was supposed to mark the end of perpetually soaring gun sales.  In fact, Sturm Ruger's share price crashed over 25% in just a matter of days as investors feared that the 'pulling forward' of gun sales was about to reverse 'big league'.  That said, those gun sales declines never materialized and RGR's shares are right back to pre-Trump levels...

...and, as the Washington Examiner points out today, FBI firearm background checks in May 2017 soared to yet another new high.

So what's going on here?  Well, at least according to one of the largest gun dealers in the United States there has been no slowdown in purchases of guns from new buyers at all, a phenomenon they attribute to the growing number of terrorist strikes around the world in recent months.

At the one of the nation's largest gun stores, Hyatt Guns in Charlotte, N.C., sales are up in reaction to safety concerns.

"We are continuing to see brisk sales of self-defense and concealed carry firearms. We're also continuing to see new gun buyers," said Hyatt Marketing Director Justin Anderson.

"People are nervous about their safety, and rightly so. It's a dangerous world we live in and American citizens know that we're not immune to terrorist attacks. They're taking the necessary steps to defend themselves. Frankly, the most recent terrorist attack in London underscores the importance of an armed populace. Remember that when seconds count the police are only minutes away," he added.

Of course, the ultimate cause for the continued strength in gun purchases can be attributed to any number of factors, not the least of which is continued gridlock and complete uncertainty in Washington DC, despite a Republican controlled government.

So what say you, continuation of a long-term bull trend in gun sales or continued pull forward of sales related to increasing terrorist threats and international political uncertainty.

Checks take as long as heck these days. I went with my neighbor who purchased a simple revolver and it took a week for it to be approved. He is as clean as they come, not even a misdemeanor in his lifetime. Maybe one speeding ticket years ago. Pain in the neck for honest folks. And yet every thug is armed to the teeth!

My neighbor saw me coming home from the range with gun paraphernalia in hand and came up to me and asked what would be a good gun purchase. I had at the time my Kel-Tec Sub2K which i showed him :-). Also I have noticed the range packed with lots of newbs and CCW trains. So yeah I think fence sitters are getting nervous seeing the world all around them circling the drain.

We buy guns to protect ourselves from people like you. Workplace shootings are something that have been around for a very long time.“After a shooting spree, they always want to take the guns away from the people who didn’t do it. I sure as hell wouldn’t want to live in a society where the only people allowed guns are the police and the military.”William S. Burroughs

Divisions are strong and battle lines have been drawn.  Also, demographics are a bitch...every day many boomers and older die and many gen z'ers come of voting age.  We have but a momentary reprieve to get shit done and prepare.

there's a civil war coming. even the dumbshits can feel it. even the dumbshits realize it's much easier to arm up before TSHTF. Now if they'd just figure out it's the same principle for gold & silver. But noooooo, they're all like "We'll just use bitcoin!" - in the middle of a fucking civil war; I really think they think they'll be able to get their shit delivered (!!!) - and of course the 'member for 3 months' ZH commenters are egging them on. "It's foolproof, dude!"they will suffer horribly, if they live. Pity. His name was Seth Rich#PizzaGate#WhatsontheLaptop#TheyAllHaveToGoBack

What's your fucking problem?  I have prepared...since BHO was elected...including real money...not bitshit, and other required resources...I encourage others to do likewise.  Time on ZH means nothing dipshit.  My comment was relevant to the ZH posting, and accurate regarding the demographic wave approaching us.  Sure there are elite power influences in play that you can say override all other reason.  But I will not fault folks, particularly in the "fly over' states, for investing in something that may be unobtainable at some point.

my fucking problem? *Sigh* another dumbass tough guy personalizing what was a comment obviously just inserted at a convenient point. (as per standard ZH procedure) My OTHER problem is I just don't like people from Ohio. They're all kinda trashy; they've all got giant-sized chips on their shoulders, ready to fight wholly imaginary enemies at an instants notice; (well-earned inferiority complexes? who can say?); and not one of them can hold their liquor. what's YOUR fucking problem?

People can feel something brewing and are nervous. Just look at the daily conflicts of road rage and plain lack of manners, civility is breaking down and all its going to take is that one event to happen to bust it wide open. The more people who live around you the better the chance of having that one asshole who rampages and its getting more frequent, when people get scared they get protection.

Absolutely right.  The Left has made their intended tactics clear.  After the Gifford's photo, even the densest conservative gets it.  Violence is the left's plan.  Thank God I live where I do.  If they bring their violence to my yard, if they make it this far (which I doubt given some of my neighbors and Sheriff) my biggest concern is sanitation due to their rotting corpses.

Geee, I wonder why all the cops & soldiers being deployed into the streets of England are being armed? Don't they know they can't stop a suicide bomber with a gun? You anti-gun leftwing idiots will be begging for a cop or soldier WITH A GUN to sleep between you and your ole lady before this is over.Cuck.
