Bernie Sanders & Wife Under FBI Investigation For Bank Fraud

Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders and his wife Jane have lawyer'd up amid an FBI investigation into a loan obtained to expand Burlington College while she was its president.

As we noted just over a year ago, Burlington College, a small Vermont private school once led by the wife of Democratic presidential candidate Bernie Sanders, said Monday it will close later this month, citing "the crushing weight" of debt incurred during the presidency of Jane Sanders who was in charge of the college until 2011.

According to WaPo, the college which enrolled 224 students as of fall 2014, said it faced financial troubles connected to its 2010 purchase of 32 acres of lakefront property from the Archdiocese of Burlington, according to the Burlington Free Press. The college said it had sold property to reduce its debt to a manageable level, but it was placed on probation in 2014 by its accrediting agency and it faced cash flow problems due to the imminent loss of a line of credit.

The reason for the small liberal school's terminal financial trouble is that to fund the property purchase from the Catholic diocese, Sanders took out $10 million in loans.  As HeatStreet reported last year, the college almost immediately fell short on its financial obligations as fundraising pledges and commitments Ms. Sanders cited in the loan agreements never materialized. Less than a year after leading Burlington College into massive debt, Ms. Sanders resigned, taking with her a $200,000 severance package. By 2014, because of its shaky finances and running deficits, Burlington College found itself placed on probation for two years by the regional accreditation agency.

Jane Sanders was president of the college from 2004 to 2011. Her husband, Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.), a former mayor of Burlington, served in the U.S. House of Representatives from 1991 to 2007 and since then has represented Vermont in the U.S. Senate.

Jane Sanders stepped down in 2011 amid a dispute with the college’s board. After her husband launched his presidential campaign, news stories emerged that scrutinized her role in a loan application for the lakefront real-estate purchase. Jane Sanders has dismissed those stories as politically motivated and said the issue was not a factor in her departure from the college.

A Burlington College news release issued this morning called these financial hurdles insurmountable at this time.

And now, as Politico Magazine first reported the Sanders have hired lawyers to defend them in the probe.

Sanders' top adviser Jeff Weaver told CBS News the couple has sought legal protection over federal agents' allegations from a January 2016 complaint accusing then-President of Burlington College, Ms. Sanders, of distorting donor levels in a 2010 loan application for $10 million from People's United Bank to purchase 33 acres of land for the institution

According to Politico, prosecutors might also be looking into allegations that Sen. Sanders' office inappropriately urged the bank to approve the loan.

Brady Toensing of Burlington, the man responsible for the claims filed to the U.S. attorney for Vermont, was a chairman for the Trump campaign in his state

"I filed a request for an investigation in January 2016 and an investigation appears to have been started right away," he said in an email to CBS News. "It was started under President Obama, his Attorney General, and his U.S. Attorney, all of whom are Democrats."

"My only hope is for a fair, impartial, and thorough investigation," Toensing added.

Weaver told CBS News that Toensing's claim that Sen. Sanders used his influence to lobby for the loan is a "political charge" that is "baseless" and "false."

Interesting that a growing number of people around Hillary Clinton are suddenly under FBI scrutiny?

To all of the Bernsters who voted for these socialist creeps, Feel the BURN yet?

Sanders supporters are true numb skulls brain washed in the classical sense where they cannot comprehend the reality or truth of what happened to them even when presented with evidence they agree with.  I have spoken with a couple. They know the election was rigged. They know Bernie was on Clinton’s payroll. They know they were lied to. Yet they cannot comprehend it. It really doesn’t sink in. They have been trained, like circus animals, to hate everything Republican and all things Trump. We now know, thanks to James T. Hodgkinson, that Sanders supporters are not rational and are very dangerous. This FBI investigation might trigger them into a frenzy.

Not unbelievable.  The democrats need to clear their field of candidates so that the next corrupt, greedy, warmongering, Wall Street Stooge can win the DNC's totally corrupt nomination process.  Senator Sanders is simply too popular with that part of the democratic base that is tired of fighting israel's wars in the middle east and bailing out wall street.  This is just a means to take him out.His wife's crime is she lied on a loan application???  That's a crime???  That's what caused the housing bubble.  Jane Sander is the first and only person to be investigated and prosecuted by the Obama administration for lying on a loan application.  She should have got a Low Doc or ninja application.

Bernie knowlingly misled a large number of decent, truly liberal people. At a minimum, this is evidenced by his backdoor deal with The Witch. All the while, basking in the glow of undeserved sainthood. I will be pleased if he is destroyed. I am pleased his energy is now being drained. So be it.

His energy was already drained, was drained. Now for a bit of blood letting ...I will be interested to know, get to know all the various heretofore unknown players, and the various back stories which must certainly be abundant, as they reveal themselves over time ..May be a few hidden surprises here, other stones getting turned over ..There were a few "helpers" in on this caper ...

Really? I once lied on a job application, which resulted in some other poor bastard NOT getting a job. That job led to other jobs and more money. Now I have a career behind me, that indirectly is a result of the initial lie.Would you have me destroyed?Let's face anti-Berns, if this is all you got, Sanders would have made the 'cleanest' President since, ooh I don't know ... EVER! Forget his platform for one second and look at the man. Sure he suffers from years of 'Socialist' overload and a 'hopium' addiction but at least he was negotiable. How do you negotiate with the deep state? Or the Donald ... or Hillary.

Bernie and his wife are true pseudo-socilaists who live high on thehog while they force misery and communism on the working suckers. Same in all these socialist countries, past or present, where the socialist dictators live on steak and fine wine (Meeow, Stalin, Pol Pot, Kim, Marudo, etc), while the "everyday working stiff" starves to death on the street (or on the farm).I hope they nail his butt.

Or put another way, just giving them enough rope to hang themselves with but it does take time. In my experience it is the nature of the prog mind, this propensity they have for frenetic hyperactivity best illustrated by the cliche'..."GOOD GAWD, SOMEBODY NEEDS TO DO SOMETHING!"But here we are and lets go with your chess, the dimz put up a horribly corrupt candidate, she lost and lost badly. Instead of accepting the queens loss with grace and trying to salvage some dignity they felt the need to explain that loss to the equally corrupt crony-donor class and the millions of useful idiots who bought into the dim machines histrionics of the "first woman president" so...they pressed the attack. And RussiaGate was born, not backed by any facts but by a goal-seeked report the DNC paid CrowdStrike to compile for them. Not thinking through to "the next move" and what pieces on the board were now in peril (having already lost the queen), it was revealed that Flynn had a conversation with the Russian ambassador, which in & of itself is no big deal, that was a part of his job just like Sessions.  But the revelation cost them dearly, as there is ONLY one way such a revelation can happen...FISA warrants...meaning, the Deep State was spying on (doing the bidding of) one political party. Their expectation was, that this feint by a rook (the Alinsky media's NYT's in this case) would expose the king in one quick move to checkmate but in reality it cost them both knights & a bishop. Now down to one bishop, two rooks and a few pawns, instead of going into a defensive/ambush posture to regain some "equality" on the board, the rooks (WaPo, CNN, NYT's etal) were sent into a full frontal attack against a superior position with reckless gestures of peeing Russian prostitutes, Russians hacking the Vermont power grid and purloined memos...and the remaining bishop (Comey) was scooped off the board. So there the king sits, never having moved, eyeballing the board while contemplating whether to checkmate now or continue the slow, excruciatingly delicious torture to be made of the rooks before claiming final victory. At this point, I'm for the slow schadenfreude torture of the rooks but thats jus me ;-)

funny, I grew up in Socialism and I never saw a single person starving on the street, anywhere. We ALL had food to eat. Even UN admited not a single child goes to bed hungry in Cuba, while there is millions of hungry children in USA. I had to come to "rich" and "prosperous America" to see bums and homeless. But dont let facts break your reality.

Workin every day here, so I take your point  .. the ole sweat off the brow eh , ..It is worth noting however, eventually everybody fucks off and dies ...Sure, some sooner then other's, maybe other need killin  .. good thing I'm not in the killin business ..Freedom, real  freedom I'd say, is a great deal the space between the ears, and in the gut, and yes, most importantly, within the very soul (the core) of a man. It may well be, the camel through the eye of a needle thing, for those so inclined ..Or for other's , just a matter of right living, Do unto other's , is good practical advise ..I have read a few tales, and have lived a few, and there are many examples, illustrations, throughout history, of those who had most everything taken from them, but were somehow made more free than some of the wealthiest of men, that is to say, more free than men wealthy in material possession .. Some get it by their own effort, other's by birth, still other's by fraud and deception .Some never "get it" at all ..Many, so many, just live simple, quiet lives, of simple means, and thus, with simple needs .. I've known men with big hearts, who like old draft horses, go and go, until one day they keel over and die in the hot sweaty dust .. work has set them free !Historical records are chock full of governmental theft examples ,, theft of ALL kinds .. before 1913 even .. wherein certainly, there did appear an escalation in what has materialized into the present day"markets" , a theft of biblical proportions, an enslavement in it's own right for a good many. These of course are the many ways of men, both good and evil, all ..It is a worthy pursuit to sit in solitude, among all of natures creation, to sometimes ponder the fate of men, free, and enslaved ...
