"We Can Barely Keep Up" - Prepper Panic-Buying Begins As WWIII Fears Grip America

Authored by Mac Slavo via SHTFplan.com,

As is often the case, most people wait until the last minute to prepare for the worst.

As reported by CBS Detroit, one Army Surplus store owner reports that preparedness equipment is flying off the shelves:

“We’ve been very busy. Unusually busy, I’d say,” Orr told WWJ’s Sandra McNeill. “It’s definitely an increase, just in selling all the normal prepper stuff, end of the world stuff. A lot of water prep stuff, food, MREs — the military meals.”

And there’s been a substantial increase in the sale of a particular item they don’t sell much of — a so-called radiation antidote called potassium iodide.

“It actually stops your thyroid from absorbing any radiation. So, it fills your thyroid with iodine, which it normally does anyways,” said Orr.

Another popular request: gas masks. But most people looking for those will be out of luck.

“Gas masks are a big thing too, but we only sell them as novelty,” said Orr.

Ed Thomas, a spokesperson for TopTierGearUSA.com, which distributes high-end protective equipment for Nuclear, Biological and Chemical emergencies, says that their web site has seen a 1200% spike in orders in the last week.

We’re barely keeping up with the inflow of orders and our staff is working double shifts just to get everything shipped. People are concerned with North Korea, World War III and what President Trump might do.

I’ve never seen it at these levels.

Everything… Anti radiation pills, gas masks, body suits and respiratory filters… people are trying to get their hands on these critical supplies in case this really happens.

Our biggest concern is that our manufacturers won’t be able to keep up with demand.

And it’s not just preparedness supplies. As Zero Hedge reports, bunker sales in California have skyrocket:

While a global nuclear confrontation is generally viewed as a bad thing, for Ron Hubbard, President of Atlas Survival Shelters in Los Angeles, it has resulted in an economic windfall.  Here’s more from The Sacramento Bee:

“It’s crazy, I’ve never seen anything like it,” Ron Hubbard, president of Atlas Survival Shelters, told Fox11.

“It’s all over the country. I sold shelters today in North Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Oklahoma, Louisiana, Oregon, Washington, Arizona, California.”

As we’ve reported previously, the situation has gotten so serious that the island nation of Guam, recently threatened for annihilation by North Korea, has issued a nuclear emergency guide warning residents to not look at the flash or fireball following a nuclear detonation.

President Trump announced Friday that the U.S. military is “locked and loaded,” ready to respond to North Korean aggression.

With panic buying taking hold, it’s only a matter of time before prices for items like gas masks anti-radiation pills go through the roof. Following the Fukushima nuclear disaster in Japan, panicked U.S. West coast residents pushed prices for a single package to $200 on auction sites. Under normal circumstances, a package of the FDA approved pills sells for about $15.

I don't think people really understand what a FULL Reset involves. It is NOT some movie with a happy ending. Most exercises I have participated in indicate the vast majority are dead within 6 months. Luck is pretty much the resolving factor... Fuck that, someone else can play the Mad Max game... I won't even bother. Does that mean I do not have preps? Sure, within reason. Civil discontent, temp shortages in commerce, etc.... but nuke exchange? Don't even bother, much less the shear, total chaos that would ensue. Realistically in a full on shit storm you will be killing people for what they have, food, fuel, clothing, shelter, etc. I don't think most understand that. Instead of buying worthless crap they should be on the phone with DC bitching about how events are unfolding. In addition to that, do these fuckers even know or understand the use of KI pills?!??!?!?! If you are exposed based on your proximity to the initial blast, and you absorb enough gamma/beta/alpha particles you're fucked regardless... soil contamination, water contamination, air pollutants... the list goes on, and on...P.S. - If you happen to be one of the lucky ones... you could (99.999%) still be fucked as a second wave of instant sunshine in a can drops out of the sky on some warm breezy day, weeks, or months, or years in the future from the initial exchange - based on the Omega "philosophy"...PPS - Articles like this make me laugh. It almost sounds like the same bullshit during the apex of the Cold War - duck and cover, hide under a desk, or closet, while a 10-20 Mt city killer drops over your head... yea, right. Articles like this should not even entertain the idea that you can survive a city killer unless you are lucky as most major US cities and bases will be redundantly hit, some as much as 10 fold. One city in particular in a full exchange will be hit 26 redundant times - and that is about the average. The people at SHTFplan.com or whatever the fuck it is called, are complete tool boxes if they even advise their readers that a full exchange is survivable - sure, but for a small percentage.

In my neck of the woods most cities have gravity sewers and force mains.
Some of the lift stations have standby generators.
Pretty nasty when raw sewage flows through the streets.
If wastewater treatment plants go down the rivers become open sewers.
I live a few mile from a small river. Still about 40,000 people upstream from me That is a lot of crap. Disease will be a major problem pretty quickly.

It would probably be a limited exchange but aside from that most people don't think about the change in the way of living it would cause.  I have several respirators with extra filters but no one can wear them 24/7.  It is very exhausting breathing through a filter.  Most people think of the movies where you only need protection to go into the 'forbidden zone'.  It won't be like that.  Fallout will be everywhere.  KI pills will only protect the throid from radioactive iodine.  The radiation will still get the rest of you.  In some emergency situations at a Nuke plant iodine is the major hazard so they have KI on hand.  A nuclear war will be completely different.  But, the prepper sales must go on to make a profit.

Realistically, does it even matter? If it goes on long enough, you will be killing people for what they have (and vise versa)- I don't care what anyone tells you, or what your morals dictate, you will. Things like that really do not bother me though, its just the hectic lifestyle that will take over, where you no longer are LIVING, but merely EXISTING while trying to cover your ass. That life does not appeal to me...

Yeah yeah - we're all gonna die in a nuke attack...we're all fucked in nuke war.Look at Nagasaki and Hiroshima....look around Kiev, prypiat, the wild animal population in prypiat is thriving....Tokyo, not far from 'fuckushima' hasn't been abandoned. The true disinformation artists are those who want you to give up....what they don't tell you.............If you survive the blast, you better prepare for hard times cause your gonna live a long hard life unless you starve to death !!Nukes ARE NOT the end of human life except for those in the blast zone. For those stupid enough to live in a city....Good ridance, leaves more for the rest of us !!

With the ability to research and learn, non of us have an excuse to be clueless. SignedCompletely Clueless. ps. People in the US were freaking out going back to at least the 1950s.I think there must be a paranoid gene in the pool or something.Prepare for a natural disaster. That is reasonable. This military SHTF scenario is about as likely as me having sex with Madonna (I would not touch that dried up old scank if she was the last female on earth).

I would agree. I take it most do not have experience in NBC. I can tell you this. A fucking gas mask is not going to save you ass in a Nuclear exchange. In fact, though I have access to an underground facility, I probably won't even bother. Who the fuck wants to live underground for quite some time? I'd rather walk towards ground zero... lets also get real, a full exchange is under 12 minutes. Most won't even know they are inbound until another city gets hit. Unless you are sitting in your hermetically sealed bunker when they launch, your ass is grass. TPTB will be authenticating codes IN THEIR BUNKER...Then you have to worry about prevailing winds. Shit, Trinity test site still exhibits contaminated glass globules, like marbles all over the ground, wth fucking bent metal that is several inches thick... so if the radiation does not kill you the shock wave / overpressure will... most public govt facilities got rid of their shelters after the wall came down. Come join us for FREE at www.gunsgrubandgold.com ALL are welcome

We are the most blessed of nations; yet full of discontentment and malcontents - go figure.  I guess the progressive ideology & propaganda of fear and gloom works for many people and the pharmaceutical industry.  I can't think of another country I'd rather live in despite the criminals running the show.  God forgive them for they are too stupid to know what they are doing.

Yes.  The ZH ownership has changed at least 3 times, but probably twice that, since Tyler and Marla pioneered this site.  Each change of ownership has resulted in a dilution of "hard hitting journalism and first rate content" to the point that the site is now - mostly - an aggregator that devotes itself to bottom-line clicks.  Note how the most recent owners are relying on outside contributors (whom I do not necessarily fault): Paul Craig Roberts, ZeroPointNow, TheRealFly, VinceLanci and, can you believe it?, so-called economist Steve Hanke.Used to be there was some real informative stuff here - deep financial markets related - that you just could not access unless you were directly plugged in to the source.  As I've posted before, the ongoing deterioration in site content - just look at the lack of substantive content by a host of new commenters - is slowly going to force most, if not all, of the old-time regulars to find a different venue.

I've noted the change, too. I didn't know that the site had changed hands. Much of my early economic education came from reading G. Edward Griffin, Pento, Schiff, etc., then prowling this site. I knew some of the theory but the real education came from reading an article then heading down to the comments section to consider the various points of view, the relative strengths and weaknesses of the arguments. I also came to see how things really worked on COMEX, central banking, EU, IMF, and the rest of the alphabet agencies. Content is indeed weaker now.I would like to find a site that hasn't been targeted by trolls and those that revel in the basest shock talk without contributing to the collection of ideas. People that want to stir a pot with vulgarity, filth, antisemitism or racism, disghusting avatars aren't needed. They may not be stupid but I would prefer to not get any of that on me regardless of what they may have to say.So, Jimmy, let me know if you find such a place. I don't hate ZH, actually quite like it still, but it could be better... like it was.EDIT: thanks CompassionateCo for emphasis on the above points.

Actually there never was a real Tyler Durden ?  No doubt ZH has changed a bunch since the blog days. But it still has a lot of quasi intellectual ass holes !I imagine some of the content has changed because the world has seriously changed just like USA has changed in the past 10 years, far for the worse. What was important 12 opr 15 years ago is quite lacking today. And many important matters were covered up and QE'd over since then. I agree all the fear porn is garbage although I realize some of it could actually happen. But I don't fret on any of it. The biggest problem is that whoever owns it now is simply all about click bait and Google ads and such. That is why it takes so long to even load a page ? Look at the the lower left of your screen and you see shit loading for a long time, videos on top of videos and all manner of pop up and side bar shit in layers ?And yes it used to be a good site to get the skinny for trading. Start reading early and then go to the "fly" and Interactive brokers and then open up for the day trading with the latest !
