Irma Turning Into Monster Hurricane: "Highest Windspeed Forecasts I've Ever Seen"

Hurricane Irma continues to strengthen much faster than pretty much any computer model predicted as of yesterday or even this morning.  Per the National Hurricane Center's (NHC) latest update, Irma is currently a Cat-3 storm with sustained winds of 115 mph but is expected to strengthen to a devastating Cat-5 with winds that could top out at 180 mph or more.  Here is the latest from the NHC as of 5PM EST:

Irma has become an impressive hurricane with intense eyewall convection surrounding a small eye.  Satellite estimates continue to rapidly rise, and the Dvorak classifications from both TAFB & SAB support an initial wind speed of 100 kt.  This is a remarkable 50-kt increase from yesterday at this time.

Irma continues moving west-northwestward, now at about 10 kt. There has been no change to the forecast philosophy, with the hurricane likely to turn westward and west-southwestward over the next few days due to a building ridge over the central Atlantic.  At long range, however, model guidance is not in good agreement on the strength of the ridge, resulting in some significant north-south differences in the global models.  I am inclined to stay on the southwestern side of the model guidance, given the rather consistent forecasts of the ECMWF and its ensemble.  In addition, the strongest members of the recent ensembles are on the southern side on the consensus, giving some confidence in that approach.

INIT  31/2100Z 17.3N  34.8W  100 KT 115 MPH

12H  01/0600Z 17.8N  36.2W  105 KT 120 MPH

24H  01/1800Z 18.2N  38.3W  105 KT 120 MPH

36H  02/0600Z 18.3N  40.7W  105 KT 120 MPH

48H  02/1800Z 17.9N  42.9W  105 KT 120 MPH

72H  03/1800Z 16.8N  47.5W  110 KT 125 MPH

96H  04/1800Z 16.0N  52.0W  115 KT 130 MPH

120H  05/1800Z 16.5N  56.5W  120 KT 140 MPH

As of now, Irma remains in the far eastern Atlantic ocean and is moving west at roughly 11.5 mph.  Based on current projections, the storm will make its first landfall in the eastern Caribbean sometime toward the middle of next week.

Longer term computer models still vary widely but suggest that Irma will make landfall in the U.S. either in the Gulf of Mexico or Florida.  Meteorological Scientist Michael Ventrice of the Weather Channel is forecasting windspeeds of up to 180 mph, which he described as the "highest windspeed forecasts I've ever seen in my 10 yrs of Atlantic hurricane forecasting."

In a separate tweet, Ventrice had the following troubling comment: "Wow, a number of ECMWF EPS members show a maximum-sustained windspeed of 180+mph for #Irma, rivaling Hurricane #Allen (1980) for record wind"

The Weather Channel meteorologist also calculated the odds for a landfall along the eastern seaboard at 30%.

Meanwhile, the Weather Channel has the "most likely" path of Irma passing directly over Antigua, Puerto Rico and Domincan Republic toward the middle of next week.

Does global warming increase the destructiveness and/or number of hurricanes?

So, why is the global rise in temperatures so worrisome?

For one thing, as temperatures rise good farmland will become desert (e.g., dust-bowl conditions will probably return to the American Midwest).

Another major problem is sea-level rise.

Have a look at

The U.S. Geological Survey people claim that;

The Greenland ice sheet melting will raise sea-level 6.55 meters (21.5 feet),
the West Antarctica ice sheet melting will raise sea-level 8.06 meters (26.4 feet),
the East Antarctica ice sheet melting will raise sea-level 64.8 meters (212.6 feet),
and all other ice melting will raise sea-level 0.91 meters (3 feet).

For a grand total of about 80 meters (263 feet).

So, what does an 80 meter (263 feet) rise in sea-level mean. Have a look at the following map of the world after an 80 meter rise. It means that over one billion people will have to be resettled to higher ground and that much of the most productive agricultural land will be under water. Fortunately, at current rates, the Greenland ice sheet will take over a thousand years to melt and the Antarctica ice sheet, much longer. However, the greater the temperature rise the faster the ice sheets will melt, bringing the problem much closer. Remember, the huge ice sheet that recently covered much of North America, almost completely melted in only 15,000 years (today, only the Greenland ice sheet, and some other small patches of it, remain). Since then (15,000 years ago), sea-levels have risen about 125 meters (410 feet), only 80 meters to go.

The ice sheets have been continuously melting for thousands of years. What is left of them today, is still melting, and will continue to melt. Human caused global warning will cause this remnant to melt significantly faster. This is a big, big, problem.

For HUGE detailed maps of the "World after the Melt" go to:

Global temperatures are increasing. And by quite a lot each year.

2016 is the hottest year on record for global temperatures.

This is 0.0380 degrees centigrade hotter than the previous record year which was 2015.

0.0380 is a large increase in just one year.

2015 was the hottest year (at that time) for global temperatures.

This was 0.1601 degrees hotter than the previous record year which was 2014.

0.1601 is an absolutely huge increase in just one year (at this rate temperatures would increase by 16 degrees in a century).

2014 was the hottest year (at that time) for global temperatures.

This was 0.0402 degrees hotter than the previous record year which was 2010.

The conspiracy to hide global warming data.

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) is given tax money to make global temperature records available to the public. However, certain people at NOAA continually sabotage this aspect of NOAA's mandate. For example, these people have (deliberately) sabotaged the web-page that delivers the temperature records.

Look for yourself:

Go to the page: scroll down to the The Global Anomalies and Index Data section and click the download button and see what happens. Well, you get the message:

"Not Found. The requested URL /monitoring-references/faq/anomalies-download was not found on this server."

I guess that the 2017 data must be truly horrible if they have to hide it away.

It turns out that this seems to be the case; NASA reports that:

July 2017 had the hottest average land temperatures on record.

The new July 2017 record was +1.20 degrees centigrade above the 20th century average (of the July data). The previous record average land temperature for July was just last year. It was +1.10 degrees above the 20th century average.

Did the media bother to tell you about this? No!

Who puts the name:Irma is from Old Saxon irmin "strong, whole", maybe also "strong, tall, exalted" (Old High German ermen, Old Norse j?rmun, Old English Eormen), from Proto-Germanic *erminaz, *ermenaz or *ermunaz, in personal names (Arminius/ArminErmanaricErmenbaldErmenbertErmenfriedErmenhardErmelindaErminia, Ermintrude, Emma) BTW Harvey meant Battle worthy

Not that I want to encourage slack to reply, but I think we're starting into the next ICE AGE (sea floor and ice core samples point to a 100K cycles of this). Sea levels will DROP to where the continental shelf is (about 100ft or so) and areas like the Flemish Cap and the Grand Banks will be islands once more. The Laurentide Ice Sheet will slowly (over many generations) extend from Greenland to about the Connecticut coastline - the ice sheet will drape over New England all the way to Northern Spain and France. The Mid-Atlantic, Midwest all the way to the Pacific will be Tundra/Savannah lands. Sorry dust bowl conditions - put that in your pipe and smoke it!

The last ice age had the sea at 280 to 320 Ft. lower than present. The exact figure is debated, but since it was only 11,000 years ago it proves much can change in a short time. It is almost like the governments of the world want us to all go on a rice diet or something. Why would they all randomly lie about the weather unless it was just a scam to put all small businesses out of business. One world means one company owns everything. The good news is every winter will remind people that not much has changed at all. Some people have caught them purposely fixing temperatures to keep the narrative. There needs to be more of these watchdogs.

Let's keep mining coal and burning natural gas, why? Just because it pisses someone else off and makes a few TX billionaires a  little more wealthy. You're ingornace is fucking yourself but you're too stupid to know it. Unfortunately , just like always the educated smart people of the world are going to carry your stupid dead weight - I bet your an anti-vaxer, believe in the benefits of smoking and doubt the moon landing. It's all a conspiracy. Keep telling yourself that.

Slack don't know Jack."Cooler conditions, slower melt August 21, 2017  A cooler than average first half of the month kept ice loss at a sluggish pace with little change in the ice edge within the eastern Arctic. Retreat was mostly confined to the western Beaufort and northern Chukchi seas. Ice extent remains above that seen in 2012 and 2007.And in case ya missed it:

PT @ Aug 31, 2017 11:45 PM "Tell me Jack, what is the optimum concentration of carbon dioxide for our atmosphere and why? You don't know, do you?"

That's true. I don't know. The temperatures records from NOAA and NASA indicate (with a high level of confidence) that 400 ppm (i.e, todays level of carbon dioxide) is too much already. And this is going to keep increasing for some time yet.

Basically, the reason CO2 levels matter is because:

The sun mainly emits visible light.

The atmosphere is transparent to visible light so the visible light from the sun passes through the atmosphere and is absorbed by the surface (ground or ocean).

The surface becomes hot, and like all hot things, it emits heat (infrared light). Some of this infrared light heads in the direction of space. Whether it leaves the planet, or not, depends on how transparent the atmosphere is to infrared light.

Now some gases in the atmosphere are NOT transparent to infrared light.

Infrared light comes in lots of different wavelengths (visible light also comes in lots of different wavelengths: violet, blue, green, yellow, red, etc). The collection of all these wavelengths is called the infrared spectrum.

Water vapor absorbs strongly in large parts of the infrared spectrum and only allows infrared to pass through in certain sections of the spectrum (called windows). The large quantity of water vapor in the atmosphere means that water vapor stops a large amount of the heat escaping to space. This heat is re-radiated in all directions so some of it heads back to the ground. This extra heat makes the environment warmer (the greenhouse effect).

This is good. Without the greenhouse effect due to water vapor, the Earth would be frozen solid.

Carbon dioxide is also a powerful greenhouse gas. Unfortunately, it happens to absorb quite strongly in the main windows where the water vapor doesn't. Thus the CO2 reflects back heat that would have otherwise escaped to space, making the Earth a little warmer. The more CO2 in the atmosphere the more these windows are blocked and the warmer it gets.

The warmer the extra CO2 makes the Earth, the more water vapor enters the air. Thus the extra CO2 and extra water vapor (due to the extra CO2) both contribute to extra heating of the planet.

Although greenhouse warming is great, there comes a point when it is a bad thing. We are at that point.

It is completely clear that mankind is increasing the amount CO2 in the atmosphere and it is becoming clear that the mechanism that I just outlined is happening and the planet is heating.

Re "That's true. I don't know.":  And that's all I need to know.  - In fact I didn't even need to know that much.  The Global Warming Fraud Crowd have already outed themselves SEVERAL TIMES THROUGH THEIR OWN ACTIONS.  But I digress - You don't know whether the earth would be better off with more CO2 or less CO2 and yet here you are, screaming the sky is falling.  How can you aim for the target when you have absolutely no idea where the target is?  How do you know the optimum is not to keep doing what we are doing?  How can it possibly be that after all these decades of study, the "climate scientists" have no idea of the optimal level of CO2 and yet they can say we're going in the wrong direction?I've already called you out several times and still you do not listen.  I shall simplify it for you.  "Global Warming" is a scam to make people feel guilty for being alive in order to discourage resistance as TPTB steal ever more money from the plebs.  Why do they steal this money when they have access to the printing presses any way?  It is all about enslavement.  Theft of labour.  Look at what they say.  Look at what they do.  Look at what they completely ignore.  The evidence is all about you if you care to look.  I have already told you this at least four times.  Why are you not looking?
