The Saudi Purge: The Middle-East Is On The Verge Of A New War

Saudi Arabia is going through a major internal political crisis the likes of which has rarely been seen.

A missile gets fired on the Saudi capital. A missile, which was allegedly built in Iran and smuggled to Yemen, just to be fired at Saudi Arabia.

According to initial reports, two Saudi princes died back to back in 24 hours: one in an “accidental” helicopter crash, the other during a firefight that broke out while security forces were trying to arrest him. On November 7, Saudi Arabia’s information ministry spokesman said that “Prince Abdulaziz is alive and well”. However, the prince could not be independently reached for comment by the media.

Other high-ranking members of the establishment and the royal family - the two tend to be one and the same in Saudi Arabia - get arrested on charges of corruption, with their bank accounts frozen.

Lebanese Prime Minister Saad Hariri unexpectedly resigns after he was summoned to Riyadh by his Saudi-backers.

Meanwhile, Saudi Arabia accused Iran of conducting acts of “direct military aggression” and accused Lebanon of “declaring war” on Riyadh by allowing Hezbollah “aggression” against the kingdom.

All this happened in a span of just a few days.

With ever-growing security challenges and problems at the regional level, the crisis that took hold of Saudi Arabia does not seem to be slowing down.

One contributing factor to the ongoing crisis is a major split in the Saudi royal family: the power struggle that resulted in the former crown prince being deposed and replaced with a new one, a move that shook things up quite a bit inside the country. The echo of this can be seen in the current “anti-corruption” persecution, enforced by the current Crown Prince Mohammad bin Salman.

Outside the country, several key foreign policy projects failed: the effectiveness of the Yemen intervention can be judged by the fact that it resulted in a missile being fired at Riyadh. Bashar al-Assad is still in power in Syria. The attempts to scare Qatar into submission backfired, as Qatar has been getting more and more friendly with Russia, Turkey and Iran.

Iran is gaining more and more influence in the region, while the Saudis seem to be losing it, hence they are trying to compensate for their losses by participating in proxy wars elsewhere.

The Saudis also tried to flex their diplomatic muscle. King Salman even visited Moscow, where the two sides exchanged promises with no guarantees that these will ever be fulfilled. This also backfired, as some considered it a demonstration of weakness or an attempt to make peace by making concessions.

Add economic struggles to this series of failures, and one can see why the King’s and his Crown Prince’s position seem less and less stable by the minute. The situation apparently seemed so dire, that in order to keep everything afloat active persecution seemed the only possible way to keep the King and his successor in power. The “anti-corruption” campaign is just an excuse: the corruption has always been high in Saudi Arabia, and no one batted an eye before now.

These are temporary measures.

Persecution can hardly solve foreign and internal matters, and it will not lead to a solution of the problems. Right now, the kingdom’s leadership is desperately in need of an enemy to unite the population and draw their attention away from the chaotic events that unfolding in the country.

A warlike rhetoric against Iran, Lebanon and Hezbollah are a clear sign of this. While Iran is a potent regional power in military and diplomatic terms, Hezbollah is a non-state actor. So, Riyadh may choose the group as an enemy for its risky foreign policy undertaking. Saudi Arabia and Israel are obvious allies in their will to destroy Hezbollah. On November 5, Tel Aviv started the largest-ever aerial exercise in the history of Israel. A leaked diplomatic cable confirmed that the Saudis and Israelis are coordinating their efforts against Iran and Hezbollah thus escalating the already tense situation in the Middle East.

The region may be heading for another large-scale military conflict.

This is what peak oil looks like. This is how it starts and then everything else crumbles from the epicenter. As the Middle Eastern influence dwindles, so does the petrodollar and in a dying energy deprived market, money start flowing back to the US for redemption, while it is still economically feasible to ship goods out of Americas and into Asia all the while still flooding the land of former free with flashy plastic garbage. This is epic - how we go down without even realizing it. Like a Wile E Coyote falling down where it takes him the entire fall to process the event so he could "get it" one second before the pavement.Thid could be "it" moment. Saudi Arabia and their relationship with the dollar is the center pillar of the global monetary system. What if all those bitcoin crazies were onto something without realizing it. Maybe they were jumping off the sinking ship just in time. If that's the case, I'll eat my hat. I don't own a hat, so I'll buy one to eat!

this ties into the vegas event.  all of the guns were to assassinate the saudis on the top floors.  see the saudi prince swept out of the tropicana (videos are out there).  also the shooters and helicopters around the airportsfinally a reasonable motive for the whole operation has been revealed.  expect the details to leak into the alt media soon - 4chan has pieced it all together

@cheka, you are spot on with the Vegas connection.  There were 3 helicopters flying right around Mandala bay that turned off their transponders (all captured on the FAA's own website that lets you track plans in the air), one messed up and turned it back on with a false call sign and it appeared as if a Southwest 737 was hovering for a few minutes over the hotel.  The whole thing stinks but the Timing of the Saudi Sweep up works well with the timing of the Vegas shooting.  Also dont forget about the Raid in Yemen and the intel that was gathered.  Lets also not forget that McCain was particularly pissed that the raid took place.  He is up to his eye balls in this.  My guess is that Trump said to the King and Crown Prince, "This is what happened, this is who was behind it, this is proof of it, now will you be taking care of it or will we be?".  The idea that the Yemen "rebels" had the ability without help to launch a ICBM at Rihad is laughable, CIA rouge elements are involved here.  Now one of their main sources for funding has been cut off."The “anti-corruption” campaign is just an excuse: the corruption has always been high in Saudi Arabia, and no one batted an eye before now"My response is, we havent had a president like Trump before.

The Saudi government has to be comprised of the stupidest fucking people on the planet.  Their Yemen misadventure has become a disaster, and they think the cure is starting a war with Iran?  They must be insane.  Iran will completely destroy Saudi's oil industry about two hours into any war.  Good luck keeping your people fat and happy once the oil spigot shut off.  And good luck keeping your crown when you ally yourself with Israel.  I'm sure the al-Qaeda radicals your government has been creating will love you for it.  In sum, the Saudi ruling class is much like our own.  They can't solve any problems and only make things worse.

Alternatively/they might be pretty bright... or dumb but lucky

lucky enough to be party to a still unannounced but already functional arrangement

whereby slack demand for oil&gas will be artificially 'compensated for' by a cartel put together by the offshore gas-rich Sraelis... FINALLY ready to make the most of their 'resources.' A Eurasian Energy Cartel. Composed of petro-producing states which have a common interest powerful enough to overcome any and all hurdles of political/religious/economic friction - they need the price of their product to increase.

Smoke n mirrors generated by the usual suspects & their media minions would have you believe that all this theatrical performance art is "really real" - but the really real deal is the dirty deal by which the moneypower once agin

changes the rules so that the house wins. Having emptied Merika and the west of all but pocket change... the bulging loot bags of the Russo-sraeli talmudist mafiya are 'in transit' to points east. China... in on the deal from the getgo... gets to pass Go without goin to jail... aka being held hostage by the telaviv-led gasnoil cartel which is about to hang Europe and the rest o the west out

to dry; hope yas like walkin to work. It's healthy and a great way to reflect pon things, whilst enjoying the sounds of nature.

Bitcoin gives you everything you would want in a store of value except the security to hold it physically.  The Chinese found a solution to this problem and is offering it to the oil producers.  It is called GOLD.

Not a single comment about the Saudis controlling nuclear weapons through their Shia-hating mercenary partners in Pakistan - a little factoid which happens to be the dispositive factor in any future conflict in the Gulf region between any Sunn'ah controlled country and Iran.  Zero Hedge is not the place to come to for critical analysis of geopolitics.

Well Hello!

Altho its' nice to see you add a new perspective to the tired word salad here,
and granting you full bragging rights for doing so...

Pakistan, which shares a border with both Iran and India... is not likely to lend itself to a Gulf feud between petro competitors.

Even on their worst days, the crew in Islamabad are disinclined to martyrdom... more so to pointless martyrdom. It's a kind of raucous and unruly combo of retro colonial public school revanchism and happy go lucky "islam-lite" that rules the waves there. Blighty meets Ganesh.

No room for self-immolation in that mix!

Why can't this happen here in the U.S.?
We wouldn't claw back so much in finances but we might just claw back a little of that "freedom" they've been lying to me about since I was born 60 years ago. Just a pipe dream I suppose, as the more I learn, the less freedom I see that I've actually had.
What really pisses me off is that I was lied to about it, and indoctrinated into it.
If I was told the honest to God truth about our situation I might not be so upset and actually bought into it more intensely...or tried to fix it, as opposed to the semi-lethargic way I've gone to work, paid my "voluntary" taxes and come home to eat, sleep and now read Zerohedge.

So, what the hell...Let's have moar woar!
What the heck is wrong with human nature?
What a fucked up solution HUH?

Like this isn't pre-planned? We just made the largest arms deal in the history of the world with these spoiled camel/oil traders! The US has nothing to do with it? As usual, Nothing to see here. Fill up your tank (pun intended).

The death of the petrodollar is going to be very very ugly.
Like the death of someone with COPD...clawing for air their lungs won't accept. The exchange of gasses just won't work anymore. (Another pun intended)

Nayef and Abdulaziz are Bush faction.  Hence, supporters of ISIS.  Salman (Trump/Bannon allied) wants a moderate Saudi Arabia, lenient on religions, and moving into the 21st century.  He'd like to modernize and bring different industries into SA because he knows that when the oil runs out, so does his nation. With most of his nation Wahabi, he has his chores cut out for him.  Salman is sitting on a powder keg.  Good luck with that.  Then there's the Sunni/Shia problem with the Shia Cresent (Iran/Iraq/Syria, along with Quatar leaning that way).  Salman's odds aren't that good.  He's got Israel on his side, which helps a little.  I hope he pulls it off without having to go toe to toe with Iran.  This thing actually started a while ago, but quietly.  Trump visits Saudi Arabia, Salman visits Putin.  Putin visits Iran, then all this happens overnight.  We are missing major pieces of the puzzle here.  Like Abdulaziz owns the top 2 floors of the Mandalay Bay hotel in Vegas where the shooting took place.  He's allied with the Bush faction here at home.  Vegas begins to look like Bush sending a message to Trump, especially with all the sightings of other shooters (were some of them wearing White Hats?)  Is a proxy war going on everywhere?  Inquiring minds want to know.

If anyone wants to get an inkling of how truly complicated the ever shifting alliances in the M.E. are, here is an article from the Jerusalem Post dated 1/24/2016 titled “Iran was the ally Israel Wanted. It got Saudi Arabia”…
These are relationships, alliances, feuds, and rivalries that literally stretch back CENTURIES. With memories to match them. If the popcorn munching American Public, with its 30 second soundbite attention span and the media that feeds it, think they have a grasp on what is truly going on in Saudi Arabia or any other M.E. country, they are delusional.
The Teutonic plates of the political world over there are shifting in ways that most of the American media (Mainstream, Alt, or otherwise) can’t even begin to grasp.
