How much cash do you have in your wallet right now?

Historically, it has been found that the amount of cash people carry is a key indicator of their use of cash. According to research from the European Central Bank, people in the eurozone carried an average of €65 in their wallets in 2016.

Just like a lot of people (southern europe) around who participate to black economy because the normal circuits are so bloated and over taxed, I regularly carry 1000s of EUR in my pockets because I never pay with traceable means of payment.I don't see myself on this diagram...

Agree. Many people I know seldom carry cash because you seldom need it. In Austria & Germany they act like it's impolite to use a debit card for small amounts (<€30), but in the Netherlands (way down the list), people at stores are annoyed when somebody takes 5 mins to get out their wallet and dig for coins when they could be done in a second with a single swipe of their debit card.

For a banking system which is reputedly as strong as London's, they're shit at dealing with cards.I also carry a lot of cash in germany... cards are unreliable here. We're talking in the 90% range. It'll work 9 times out of 10 and leave you completely fucked that 1 time. It happens enough that you can't rely on it.Then there's the understanding of what bank credit is... a dramatically higher % of the population understand that cash and bank credit are different things. Still not high, maybe 5%, but it's more than the 0.1% elsewhere. They've also been through hyperinflation and lived with the effects, its still in the national consciousness.

I see we have some real high rollers in the commenters......2000 or 3000 for these guys. One never pays with anything traceable....are they drug dealers?

Holy crap.  If I only had $100 in my wallet I could barely eat a meal and fill up my gas tank.  I pay for everything in cash, so I don't usually leave the house with less than $700 or $800.   Shit is so freaking expensive these days, one of the problems is being able to carry around enough cash.  $800 is 40 $20 bills.  Kinda makes your wallet fat.  Then you've got all the smaller bills to.  Sure I could trade them in for larger bills at the bank, but I don't want to be reported as a potential terrorist or something because I'm carrying cash.  It's a crazy world we live in these days.

Germans carry cash not because of freedom and privacy it brings, but because business don't accept them. The fees are too high for many small businesses like bakeries, etc.

There's also the classy cigarette case: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cigarette_case#/media/File:Cigarette_case… is good for a dodge when someone demands your wallet at gunpoint. Give them your wallet with a couple bucks in it. Always carry two "wallets". No one fucks with me because I walk fast and wear shit kicker boots. Practice being invisible. Also practice behaving a little neurotic. To be invisible you imagine folding your aura in close to you, however you do that. At the same time you are hyper aware. Walk fast. Use your perephrial vision. Try it in crowded venues. Practice. You will see how docile and cow-like most people are. This does not make you any good mark. When your body language shows how you are "squeezing" yourself, people will see you differently than head up non-chalance. At the same time, keep your body boundary at least six feet radius. Often times, when I shop for groceries and some dumb ass is there taking up the entire aisle, I just stop. Start looking around. I'll ask myself to remember 3 things I noticed on my left and three things I noticed on my right. When I get near kids I just stop. The only time I puff up is when a grown man pushes anywhere near me. Then I raise my full height and my chest and shoulders expand and then I move extremely slow and methodical. People work in teams.Anyway the cigarette case: One side holds cash, the other cards, id. Any more I just use a velcro camoflage wallet since it is practically invisible to the naked eye. It's something people typically eschew. My mom also told me to always carry my wallet in my front pocket. I always keep a gold ounce, a fraction, usually a tenth and a silver round with me at all times. And then I keep a fake leather dummy in my back pocket with a picture of a big black dick and a 2 dollar bill and a ribbed condom for thieves.I'll save the Au ounce for the nice fellas at the gun store. If anything they'll chip in some shit they want to get rid of. Shake hands make a friend. One night I got approached by two dudes while I was preparing to go to work at 2 am. "Give us a dollar..." So I went and opened the trunk of my car. Pulled out some antifreeze. Popped the hood. I checked my oil. "I don't have a dollar. I'm going to work." Slammed the hood. Slammed the trunk. Kept moving. I said, "I'm going to work at FedEX ground and we could use muscle like you for $10 an hour. Get in and let's get you a job."No? Ok, then, I have to go to work. Offer stands. Come back sunday through thursday here at 2 and I'll get you a fucking job. I'll drive.Me, I would have taken the fucking job. But no one ever fucked with me after that. They could have beat me down without dialogue. Some will.I carry several hundreds of fiat upwards to a couple grand depending on how long I'll be from home. Nowadays I keep a legal sawed-off 12 guage in the trunk. That's also good for barter. Don't ever let anyone get behind you. I gave one dude my flash light and told him to point it at the radiator cap. Fucking Cincinnati. I was shaking too. I figured I'd get the shit kicked out of me but I went to work fine and came home fine and never a problem. It's a shame though. These kids could have loaded some vans and shit and made 250 a week.

I am German and I always carry between 50 - 500 € (60 - 600 USD) in my wallet. I pay everything in cash whenever I can, leaving no money trail behind. I also got 2 debit cards and 2 credit cards in my wallet but rarely use them for anything.
