In Battle Over Border-Wall Funding, Who Will Blink First?

As Fox News reminds us, five years ago, the entire Senate Democratic caucus approved the construction of hundreds of miles of fencing along the US-Mexico border.

But now that President Donald Trump has decided that building the Wall is a political hill worthy of dying onBloomberg’s words – the Democrats have vowed to oppose any request for funding that would go toward building the wall, starting with Trump’s $18 billion proposal unveiled last week.

And with the present continuing resolution bill set to expire on Jan. 19, Trump has vowed to veto any spending bill that doesn’t approve funding for his wall – even if that means shutting down the federal government to establish his leverage.

However, funding for the federal government’s day-to-day operations isn’t the only thing at stake here. As Bloomberg explains, an impasse over immigration could delay other pressing legislative priorities, like badly needed disaster relief for Texas, Louisiana, Florida, Puerto Rico and California.

An immigration agreement could open the way to a broad spending bill, which in turn could carry disaster relief funds, legislation stabilizing Obamacare and other measures that stalled in December.

The question now is whether Democrats will hold firm in their red line against wall money - and whether they or Trump have stronger resolve.

Several border wall prototypes commissioned by the Department of Homeland Security have already been completed along a stretch of border territory near San Diego.

Just yesterday, it appeared a bipartisan group of senators had secured an “agreement in principle” for an immigration compromise that would’ve preserved legal protections for undocumented immigrants who were brought to the US as children.

But in the wake of the latest White House controversy – a report that he referred to Haiti, El Salvador and other developing countries as “shitholes” and suggested admitting more immigrants from countries like Norway – Trump has confirmed that lawmakers are no closer to a deal than they were four months ago, when Trump struck a tentative deal with “Chuck and Nancy” to preserve DACA, only to walk it back weeks later.

Just fucking sell monogrammed mafia blocks with the name of the private citizens who sponsored it, if they wish, and their favorite American leader quote engraved into it. At about $55 per you could charge $250 to engrave and deliver them and probably get over half the damn wall built privately.

Fuck this government shit.

Might make for an interesting debacle to make the left choose - border wall or no welfare for anyone not born here. Personally, I think ending the welfare state and actually punishing people for hiring them would fix the problem even quicker, but thats just me. That wall would take a while, and could, in the future, be used to keep us in. Much quicker, and much easier, to just put an end to the gibs. They'll self deport when its no longer economically viable to live here.

When it's time to consider escaping to Mexico in an effort to avoid persecution here in the USSA, then I'll either choose to go North into Canada, or attempt to circumvent The Wall by going around it.

"The Wall" is just political theater for the downtrodden masses to nibble on and contemplate as an important national interest.

Building "The Wall" is a meaningless gesture that is designed to maintain the ridiculous Left/Right paradigm, and to keep the masses distracted while they fight amongst each other.

Go pick your own fruit and vegetables if you don't like it.

Migrant seasonal work visa's worked fine in the forty years of no immigration last century.

When they overstay, round them up and send them back as Ike did with operation Wetback.

The whole country is full of pampered wusses, start by bringing back the draft to return some

backbone. All the countries teacher, not matter what age, first. Then return corporal punishment in the schools,

if you can't get respect from the wusses, get fear from them to make them learn.

No wonder the world is laughing at the USA.We teach gender sensitivity, the Russians teach their kids to strip

AKs and then fieldcraft at 14.

The USA is not exactly East Berlin. No one is trying to get out of the US. Nor are Canadians pouring across the northern border. The reality is we stop the illegal immigration from the South or become Norte Mexico. The courts refuse to enforce immigration law so a wall is a workaround. How effective it will be? At worst we will get healthy physically fit illegals.

Yeah, and after they get busted and go to prison, they'll have some practical experience and expertise in busting out over the walls.

The wall is just theater for yokels. A twenty-foot wall can easily be scaled with a twenty-five foot ladder. A twenty-foot wall can easily be tunneled under.

For the cost of a wall, you could buy and embed a lot of land mines. The wall is just theater for yokels.

it's a waste of money.  it has so many enemies that it will be impossible to build or maintain, and will be torn down as soon as trump is out of office.  it's hopeless, like everything else in this country.

buzzsaw99 JimmyJones Fri, 01/12/2018 - 19:02 Permalink

the libtards on this side of the border don't want it either.  so half the people on one side and all of the people on the other side don't want it.  plus the maggot press, the maggot bankers, all of deep state and the bureaucracy.  if texas wants a wall that's fine, but california will tear it down themselves so as i say it is a waste.

Stop all the Foreign Build the Fucking wall and shut down the gov for about a year. Lay off every fucking one of them including congress. No pay, no benefits for a fucking year......

You still haven't understood that 90% of what the US calls "foreign aid" comes back to the country in the form of military contracts and infrastructure contracts. Even so-called "humanitarian aid" is based on US company contracts, jobs and profit. They cannot all replace these contracts by starting to build walls. Get real !

Why doesn't Uncle Sham just pile those New & Used GM Motors lying dormant in their Graveyards, HIGH, along the stretch of border? Maybe toss on some of those flightless F-35's in the process!

If funding is the problem, just put a check box or line on the 1040 saying:  Do you want to donate $1 for the WALL? [checkbox] or a lot more? [numeric box]

Better yet, run a Powerball style lottery where all the state/bookie take goes to the wall.  Might get a couple of billion each year.

Since we're discussing shitholes here's an idea.

Don't build that wall.  Instead, dig a moat and fill it up with Mexican liquid shit from the Tijuana River.  In fact, we should reroute the Tijuana River and connect it to the Rio Grande.  In a sense this would be a wall built with 100% pure Mexican liquid shit sourced from the Tijuana River water(shit)shed.  You could say that Mexico did in fact help build and maintain the "wall".

You ever been to El Paso?  A river such as this would fit in nicely there.  Río de mierda.

I agree with President Trump.  The Demoncrats and their entitlement "babies" will suffer the most when Federal payments stop.  So stop the payments and let the Demoncrats and their "babies" suffer.  Maybe, just maybe, that will force Demoncrats to acknowledge their errors.  But, then again, the Demoncrats have demonstrated uncommon stupidity!

Completion of a wall means the end of Trump. Because completion will never happen means that Trump will never end. Trump critics need to understand that to end Trump means the wall must be completed. Trump supporters need to understand that demanding the wall with no satisfaction means Trump gets stronger. You can't always get what you want but if you try, sometimes you will get what you need.
