WSJ Calls For End To Trump Dossier "Silly Season" - Declassify It & Let The Public Decide

Authored by Kimberley Strassel via The Wall Street Journal,

Congress should work quickly to declassify documents and let the public decide...

There’s no such thing as a coincidence in Washington, so why the sudden, furious effort by Democrats and the media to give cover to the Steele dossier? As in, the sudden, furious effort that happens to coincide with congressional investigators’ finally being given access to FBI records about the Trump-Russia probe.

This scandal’s pivotal day was Jan. 3. That’s the deadline House Intelligence Chairman Devin Nunes gave the Federal Bureau of Investigation to turn over documents it had been holding for months. Speaker Paul Ryan backed Mr. Nunes’s threat to cite officials for contempt of Congress. Everyone who played a part in encouraging the FBI’s colonoscopy of the Trump campaign - congressional Democrats, FBI and Justice Department senior career staff, the Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama political mobs, dossier commissioner Fusion GPS, the press corps - knew about the deadline and clearly had been tipped to the likelihood that the FBI would have to comply. Thus the dossier rehabilitation campaign.

Weeks before, the same crew had taken a desperate shot at running away from the dossier, with a New York Times special that attempted to play down its significance in the FBI probe. You can see why. In the year since BuzzFeed published the salacious dossier, we’ve discovered it was a work product of the Clinton campaign, commissioned by an oppo-research firm (Fusion), compiled by a British ex-spook on the basis of anonymous sources, and rolled out to the media in the runup to the election. Oh, and it appears to continue to be almost entirely false. When the best you’ve got is that a campaign orbiter made a public trip to Russia, you haven’t got much.

But with Congress about to obtain documents that show the dossier did matter, it was time for a new line. And so the day before the Nunes deadline, Fusion co-founders Glenn Simpson and Peter Fritsch broke their public silence to explain in a New York Times op-ed that what really matters was their noble intention - to highlight Donald Trump’s misdeeds. The duo took credit for alerting the “national security community” to a Russian “attack.”

Meanwhile, Dianne Feinstein, ranking Democrat on the Senate Judiciary Committee, decided it was suddenly a matter of urgency that the nation see Mr. Simpson’s testimony, which he gave back in August. That move provided the cable news channels with more than 300 pages of self-serving material. Mr. Simpson extols his journalistic chops, praises the integrity of dossier author Christopher Steele (a “Boy Scout”), professes his love of country and his distaste for Russians (other than those paying him), and ladles on more disinformation about Mr. Trump. Democrats and the media have spun this into a new contention: What mattered were the motives and credentials of the dossier’s creators, which were sufficient to give the FBI good cause to run with the document.

Which you have to admit sounds a lot better than “Hillary Clinton’s Campaign Conjured Up an Opposition-Research Document That Was Fed to the Obama FBI, Which Then Used It to Spy on the Trump Campaign.” Even if that’s a more accurate headline.

We don’t know exactly what Congress has seen, but it’s a safe bet it’s hot. The media and Democrats are trashing Sens. Chuck Grassley and Lindsey Graham for their criminal referral of Mr. Steele to the Justice Department. But neither man would make such a move without good - and documented - cause. If anything, the referral is suggestive of FBI misbehavior. Evidently whatever Messrs. Grassley and Graham found came only at this late stage, after the bureau reluctantly made key documents available to lawmakers. The implication is that the FBI and Justice Department knew they had a problem and were concealing it from investigators.

The risk for anti-Trumpers - especially those doubling down on the dossier - is that the black-and-white documents will blow their latest narrative to oblivion. It isn’t as if there is much in the record to date to support it. If Mr. Steele was such a professional, why was he out spreading national-security “intelligence” through the media? If Mr. Simpson was so worried for his country, why did he spend months dodging congressional requests for testimony, and refuse to name his client? If Mr. Steele was confident enough in his document to spool it to the FBI, why has he ducked every congressional request that he explain his work? And that’s before Mr. Grassley’s claim to have credible evidence that Mr. Steele lied to the government.

You can bet that the dossier spin is going to get even crazier, which is why it is so urgent that Congress move quickly to declassify core documents and release them to the public.

So long as those documents remain secret, dossier proponents can concoct whatever story they choose. It’s time to end the season of silly spin and begin one of accountability.

Please please just make it stop.
Then we can celebrate with a Bonfire of the Progressives or something.

Or lobotomies

Yeah, lobotomies.
I long for the good old days.

There is no doubt in my mind that many crimes have been committed in many areas, Uranium One, mishandling classified information, destroying evidence, bribery, blackmail, treason.

It will be too many individuals to go after them all.

Our country needs a Nuremburg style trial to take a hard stand on ending the corruption.

Start prosecuting and call it finished when the top 100 are in prison.

Clintons, Comey, Strozk, Muller, McCain, Wasserman-Schultz, Obama, Abedin & Weiner.

Where individuals in the media have been complicit, they should be accountable too.

We are witnessing an attempt to commit a coup and it should be dealt with accordingly.

The genesis of the Russian hacking narrative is really quite simple and transparent:

Obunghole "The Magic Hafrican", Hitlery Rotten Clinton, the Demon-Marxist Nazionale Kommittee and the 17 three-letter Gestapo (Geheime Staatspolizei) agencies all conspired to:

* transfer US Uranium assets to Russia with Russians paying Hitlery and her KKK (Klinton Krime Klan) at least $145 MILLION;

* elect Hitlery Rotten Clinton President in 2016 and many, many other T R E A S O N O U S crimes against the Constitutional Republic of the United States of America;

* Then, in T R U E Alinsky "Rules For Radicals" fashion, they accused Donald J. Trump of their own T R E A S O N O U S criminal collusion with Russians.

Fortunately, they lost and the training wheels are coming off the entire charade. Hopefully, it will lead them all to a Federal Super Max prison.

No.  I want this thing to come full circle.

I want nothing more than this investigation to flame completely the fuck out and turn on itself revealing how it was bought and paid for by Clinton and Associates.

There is no fucking way I want this circus to stop.  This MUST end with convictions of those who sponsored this witch-hunt.

The unsealed indictment on Uranium One renders the entire dossier narrative dead in its tracks.

Great article, but misses the really important point that the people who continuously vomit out the Russian interference narrative and the Blue Team masses who gleefully ingest it every day do not care if any of it is true.  If it is shown to be untrue, they will pivot to some other position such as that it could have been true and thus justified the spying on his campaign anyway, and besides, Trump is Hitler so what difference at this point does it make.   I can't remember which author's article it was here a couple of days ago that made this point with statistics, but that's the fact of the matter -- the facts don't matter.  This story never goes away even if it has to morph into something completely different.

great point -  Maddow et al. aren’t merely blinded by confirmation bias and immune to contrary evidence (the ‘backfire effect’) they simply don’t care about the truth.

But... more than half the country does.

I thought Stockman’s article was excellent at laying out what the true story so far seems to be.…

So when is Strzok going to be compelled to testify?

Or how about indicted?

I do wonder if Sessions is unwilling or otherwise unable to do the job a competent AG would have done months ago.  People in the FBI should be awaiting trial by now.

The investigation/arrest/prosecution will be conducted by a non-partisan investigatory body(out of our partisan hands now).  Grand juries will be assembled and what happens as a result I will leave to your imagination. Having said that, I believe there's no way that DJT will let this slide. This is exactly what his September speech was all about. The hammer is about to drop...

After Monday, the world will change.  Everyone will have to re-do their narratives.

The DOJ Inspector General's report comes out.

My guess is that there will not be a single untainted bureaucrat, investigator, or lawyer on the Mueller/Russia Collusion team.

Dossier- French word meaning a bunch of -usually

worthless- papers.

Anybody in the UK should have cringed when

first reading that word. They had just spent

8 years studying the lies that got them into the

Iraq war (read Tony Blair), including a "dossier"

that was cut and pasted from an undergraduate

thesis, with the added punchline "Saddam had WMD

and shared felafels with Al Quida."

'WTF the dossier is not classified...'

No, what is classified is the documented proof the FBI knew the dossier was a creation of the Hillary campaign yet used it to fraudulently gin up a FISA approval for a intelligence services' spying campaign against the Trump campaign.

When you plan and attempt to execute a coup it is never a 'good career move' to fail.

The FBI gave  classified info to Fusion months BEFORE Clinton paid that money.

The Clinton money was a cutout, to deflect that fact. They set up their reason to spy on Trump.

The FBI commissioned the Steele report,HRC and BO paid for it illegally thru' a lawyer cutout

I don't believe any of the people we are aware of in the FBI/DoJ would do that of their own bat.

Out of character for govt. employees unless they were ordered to,by someone at the very top,

say in the oval orrifice, who he took the orders from we will never know.

This is why and it ain’t gonna be pretty...It’s all going to come crashing down..The FBI and DOJ are in deep do do...

  • FISA – Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act
  • 702 – An American caught up in the process of Foreign Surveillance
  • (16) – A search query based on “TO” and “FROM”
  • (17) – A search query based on “ABOUT”

When a FISA-702 search is conducted based on the need for “national security” no approval from the FISA court is needed.  Search away.  If the FISA search is because of a “vital national security interest” the resulting search data can be opened without seeking permission from the FISA court.

♦A “FISA-702(16)” Search Result – would be a search result of the FBI (counter terrorism database) or NSA database that returns an American person as a result of a “To” or “From” (16) type data search.

EXAMPLE: Querying phone data (phone number)  TO: Mohammed BadGuy or FROM: Mohammed BadGuy  – might return a list of phone numbers that also contains an American persons phone number.  That American person is protected by the fourth amendment.  To look at the “upstream” connections of the American Person to other people, likely Americans, the search operator would need to ask permission of the FISA Court for permission to review the results.

[NOTE: *Exception* the search was vital to national security. Then the upstream phone numbers could be reviewed without asking FISA permission.]

♦A “FISA-702(17)” Search Result – would be a search result of the FBI (counter terrorism database) or NSA database that returns an American person (702) as a result of an “ABOUT” (17) type data search.

EXAMPLE: Querying everything in email ABOUT: Mohammed BadGuy – might return communication of an American who wrote about Mohammed BadGuy.  To look at the email of the American, the search operator would need to ask permission of the FISA Court to see the email content.

[NOTE:  *Exception* the search was vital to national security.

The Russian Doll Dossier Scandal is a lie within a lie within a lie.

Here is the most important part:

This story was concocted 10 years ago by Glenn Simpson. He then, in 2016, commissioned Steel to rewrite it, alluding to KGB-era contacts, to give it a superficial gloss of authenticity. Fusion then presented it as Steele's work.

It is all Glenn Simpson's work. Ask his wife.

Whilst the Clintons are all guilty as hell, the man at the heart of this is Obama. Obama is being protected by the MSM. John Podesta is likely to have an accident, before the trail leads to his "tell-all" door. Wet Works.
